After a successful run with their second studio album Backstabber, Reckoner went hiding for the next few months to return to their families, stay away from the cameras, and live normal lives since that was impossible if you were in one of the most wanted bands in modern times. Now that they are ready to face the reality that their lives would never be normal again, Reckoner are now back and ready to attack the music scene with their third studio album. Paul Jacobs was lucky enough to catch a moment with the band from their newly built recording studio in Glasgow where they have recently finished the production of their album.
Finally! You guys are done with your next album!Troy: Well it's nice to see someone get excited about the next album.
Are you kidding? Everybody in the world who has heard of Reckoner couldn't wait for the album!Troy: Great news! The album would be hitting stores in a week!
That truly is great news! Now it's time for business, so why haven't we heard of you guys ever since Blackout was released, it's like you guys suddenly disappeared.Troy: Well we really didn't expect the pressures of suddenly being put under the spotlight, we had to take some time off to be with our families, live normal lives, well when this next album would be released, we think it would really prevent us from living normal lives again. We think this album would be even better than the previous and we had to adjust to the situation, we had to prepare ourselves for what is to come.
True, but in your opinion, is being famous a bad thing or a good thing?Troy: Fame has its pros and cons, The good thing about being famous is that it spreads our music to greater distances and it has no limits, even 3-year-olds could listen to our music and we like that since we want to spread the messages of our songs to as many people as possible, we want to be heard. The bad thing about being famous is the obsession of the public, we didn't want to be celebrities, we just wanted to make music, perform music, and release music, being famous does go over the limits, we got more than what we bargained for.
Well there is always a price to pay. Now lets get to less personal stuff, could you give us a little sneak at the new album?JC: Well I think Troy has spoken too much, my turn! Well what we could say by now is that this new album would be called Everything X, it explores the unthinkable depths of Troy's mind and soul. This new album ventures even further from our pop rock origins, we went experimental with this one. Also the blues influence never leaves our side, this time it is added with some jazz, classical, avant garde, and electronic sounds, sounds exciting huh?
Carl: Oh and JPC should tell about the part where Troy plays bass.
JPC: Yeah, there is this one track where Troy would play bass and I would go synthesizing.
Tristan: And also some sampling would be done with this one track, all other details would be kept secret. All we could say is that this album is different and over-the-limits of traditional rock.
Well that sounds pretty exciting, can't wait for the new album guys!
Troy: Well keep on waiting, the exact release date would be on August 14, and our first headlining tour would already take place, get ready guys!
