Misery Loves Company debut
Cameras and Lights with and exclusive live performance on
Much Music!
Californian rockers,
Misery Loves Company are in the studio tonight to perform and exclusive first play of their new single Cameras and Lights of their as-of-yet unnamed upcoming album.
It has been a turbulent time for
Misery Loves Company over the past few months with line-up changes, cancelled album releases and delayed tours amongst other things. Tonight, however we will be interviewing Ryan and Nate from the band as they play for the first time live their upcoming single.
Beforehand however, we are going to bring Ryan and Nate down for a a quick interview with me Paul Stevens!
Ladies and gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to Ryan Williams and Nathan Barker from Misery Loves Company! The crowd go crazy as the pair take their seats.Paul: Ryan, Nate welcome to Much Music. How does it feel to get a reception like that!?
Ryan: Its really quite surreal. I mean, a few months ago we we're regular guys playing music in our bedrooms playing small shows at school talent events and now look at this.
A crazed fangirl from the crowd shouts "Nate, i love you!".Nate: I love you too!
Paul: Excellent stuff! How have things been for you guys? We know you have been through a lot in the past few months.
Ryan: We're good y'know. Every band has difficulties, its bullshit if they tell you otherwise, but yeah we dealt with our various problems. With Shay he knew what he wanted to do and we weren't going to stop him, he's now doing amazing production with some of the top artists out there today.
Nate: In regards to the album really, the band just thought they needed a change, that the record seemed rush and just not Misery Loves Company. I was just in the band at the time as well. But we're so glad we did have the guts to stand up and say, "hey, this record isn't us. Lets try it again" we admitted our mistakes instead of putting out some work which we weren't happy with.
Paul: Which brings me to my next point, the album.. when will we have it? Is production finished?Ryan: I knew this question would appear! Yeah, the album is basically completed now with just a few things here and there to sort out but the album should be out, soon. At the minute, its looking like either a September 26th release or October 2nd. We want to push for September 26th to get it out quick, but we also have to be realistic.
Paul: Sounds good. Ok, now, the reason we're here. What can you tell us about your new single Cameras and Lights?Ryan: It was a song i originally wrote with my sister, Lily. We both had really big dreams of making it huge in the music industry, to follow in the footsteps of Ryan Ross Hernandez and co. so, we sat down and started putting things together. I then added more work to it in early August and we we're all really happy with the song. Its - without sounding to cliched - basically a song about following your dreams and not letting the doubters get to you.
Nate: Hopefully you will all like it! Oh and, its due for release next Monday the 12th.. that is the 12th right?
The crowd laugh at Nate.Paul: Yes, it is the 12th. Sounds interesting guys! What now, can you tell me about your upcoming record? Possible names, song details/names etc.
Ryan: All will be revealed! *laughs*.
Nate: Yeah, we don't want to give everything away right away, all in due course. We will however confirm that another song will be released on our website for free at some stage BEFORE the record is released. Also, we'll be having 30 second teasers of every song and track listing and album name released very, very soon.
Paul: Ok, ill not keep you much longer! But can you tell us why your drummer Josh won't be joining you for tonight's performance? Ryan: Yeah our drummer Josh is over in the UK currently with his girlfriend. It is personal reason's and not our place to say why. But our good friend Bobby Westland will fill in tonight and Riley will be joining us on Bass.
Paul: That is understandable. Ok, you guys go get ready for your performance. We're going to take a short comercial break, don't turn over or you will miss the first play of Misery Loves Company's debut single. See you in 5.Ladies and gentlemen, without further a due.. Song Description: After initial disappointment at Misery Loves Company's album being delayed and re-recorded you come to realize what they are talking about and understand their decision - if it works. With Cameras and Lights, we have a suit which the band play so well! MLC thrive on creating huge choruses, add that to their impressive ability to make a ballad without sounding
too cheesy and you get Cameras and Lights. The song starts off with a minor riff from guitarist Nate Barker, which is closely followed by Williams' soft humble vocals. His ability to change tone is exceptional, and this is shown throughout the song. As the song builds toward the first chorus, you get the feel that it will erupt, but MLC do a good job at playing it down. In-fact we don't hear Josh Heyler's drumming until after the first chorus. The chorus is filled with gang vocals, which are provided by the whole band and no other than sister Lily Williams' band (Chasing The Sun), it is an almost soulful chorus with the "oh's" and the "Oh-oh's" yet Misery Loves Company use this to their advantage creating something unique and well, actually quite inspirational. It is defiantly a poppy song, although never to fear die-hards, the band have promised heavier music too. It is sure to create a nice blend and is destined for radio play worldwide! And the over-used "oh's" will be stuck in your head for a long, long time.
Lyrics: Key: Black = Ryan Williams
Green: Gang/Group vocalsRed: Whispered vocalsWe always said we’d like to be like Ryan Ross, Hernandez
They used to laugh at us and say it would never, happen
Ohhhhhh-OhhhhhhhThey used to say we couldn’t be like this Misunderstood, Man
But tonight we’re here to tell them that we, can
OhhhThe cameras and lights all seem so bright at, night
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ohhh-Oh-OhWhere not gunna stop til it gets to morning, light
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ohhh-Oh-Oh
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ohhh-Oh-OhWhen we told them our dreams of making it, big
They used to say we’re better off being, kids
We would always say we’re happy playing to small, crowds
And tonight we’re here to show them that we’re, proud
OhhhThe cameras and lights all seem so bright at, night
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ohhh-Oh-OhWhere not gunna stop til it gets to morning, light
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ohhh-Oh-Oh
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ohhh-Oh-OhDream, Over, Dream, Beginning
This is the start, we wont let it end
We wont let them say we’re not good enough for it,
We wont let them tell us what we cannot do
Because tonight is the night, night
Ohhhhh-Ohhhhhh(camera’s and lights) The cameras and lights all seem so bright at, night
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ohhh-Oh-OhWhere not gunna stop til it gets to morning, light
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ohhh-Oh-Oh
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ohhh-Oh-Oh(camera’s and lights)
