Well it looks like TheUnderground.com has been down for awhile, the staff keep going on strike... We will try to keep this site updated more. All artists that were signed up to TheUnderground have been wiped off, so we are now starting with a fresh list! Please email in, preferably with a brief live performance and a statement saying who you are etc so that I can get this site running nicely again! I would also love to have another TheUndeground LIVE! because the last one went so well!!

JUNE 3- THE BIG CHART WAR
John York caused quite a stir today when he announced that The Band’s Second Album (The Band’s Second Album) would be moved back a week, causing it to be realeased on the same week as Catharsis’ debut album The Beginning of Things. He claimed that Catharsis had moved it’s album’s release back a month in order to steal hype from The Band, resulting in poor sales. He called this “one of the few commercial decisions he’ll ever make.” Nonetheless many have claimed his motives were personal. The two bands have butted heads in the press, on twitter and reportedly in person. York and Catharsis guitarist James White have a history together, having lived troubled youth’s in England’s Yorkshire county.
So the question remains; who will win? Catharsis will certainly sell more worldwide, they already have solid support in Japan and throughout Europe. One spot The Band will outsell Catharsis is in the US. Catharsis hasn’t made much of a splash there, while The Band had a mild rock hit there in “My Washboard”. The UK is where the showdown is up in the air. This was expected to be a breakthrough record for The Band, and depending on the hype it could be pushed very high on the charts. Catharsis’ album is less of a sure thing in the UK, it could be flop or it could top the charts. A lot of it depends on how the lead single does. The future of the UK underground is as stake, will it go over to the more hardcore influenced, pop-punk crowd? Or will it remain in the hands of arty New Wave bands? We’ll find out the first weekend in June.
OOC-You can ask Matticus if you want to do any other underground stories here. Seems like a good place. |
