a thread like this probably already exists but this guy deserves all the best (by 'this guy', I don't mean myself. I mean Beck. I'm a loser, i don't deserve anything :P)

So lately, i've been listenng to a ton of Beck, Jamiroquai (might make a thread about them later), Midnight Oil, Quincy Jones, and Modest Mouse, amongst others, and Beck stood out to me.

He's just such a creative musician, with so many genres in his albums, such as raw indie rock, bluesy tracks, hard rock, rap, jazz, electronica, etc. and he's not intimidated to play wuteva he wants. Like Sea Change, he just dropped his well known "prankster" persona, and just became all serious and depressed with break up songs. And the follow-up, Guero, kinda combined his new "seriousness" with his old sound.

My top 3 fave albums in no order by him would have to be Sea Change, Odelay, and Guero and my top 3, no 5 fave songs by him in no order would be "Paper Tiger", "Sexx Laws" (especially live), "Already Dead", "Lost Cause", and "Where It's At".

Beck is an absolute hero. I love Odelay and Sea Change. I don't know which to pick as his best, I guess Lord Only Knows, Where It's At, Gamma Ray, Sexx Laws and Lost Cause would be my favourites but he's got so many great songs.

I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me!

Never got into any of his other songs, but then again I don't get into any music made after the nineties usually.

I like Beck because he's actually pretty versatile. I mean comparing something like "Where It's At" to his stuff from the Scott Pilgrim movie is insane. It's cool that he can skip around genres like that.

ikr! there's no way to categorize his music. and if u do categorize his music, it becomes ridiculously long and looks too diverse. I mean, jazz, hard rock, techno, salsa, indie, electronica, art punk, it's just CRAZY!
