So where exactly are you from? I'm originally from America, but I spent a lot of my time in the Netherlands where my father is originally from, and when I was 5, he decided to move back their with me after a nasty divorce.
If you don't mind, may I ask how is the relationship with you and your mother now? Its actually great right now. Every other year I would stay with my mother in America and then go back with my father.
Was it difficult coming to America, getting used to the lifestyle there, and then going back home to the Netherlands and re-adjusting? Not really, I just dealt with it, I've seen alot of places before but I always treated the two as home.
How did you get into the music business? Well a few years ago, I was 18, I believe and my friends and I always went to these huge house concerts and clubs in the city part of the Netherlands and for about a month, every Friday they would hold a competition called De beste zanger in club Black which means the best singer and one night I felt like I needed to be apart of it. I always loved house music and electro music and music in general. Everyone encouraged me day in, day out to go out there and shine but I was always so nervous. But after that night where a lighbulb pop in my brain and I said I need to do this, I sorta practiced with some classic trance/house songs and I went out there one night, tore the house down and I couldn't believe it, a very important DJ and record producer who is now my partner DJ Night was their that night, DJing of course, and was totally taken by me and performance that he approached me after the show...
What happened next? I was nervous basically and I didn't exactly know what to do. He had a strong cult of followers in The Netherlands and was kind a powerhouse DJ. Basically he came up to me and said I've been looking for a female artist who I could make music with and your the best I've seen yet. I couldn't believe it, all I could do is try to get it correct in my brain. Of course I didn't trust him at first but we had a great friendship after a while and as time progressed I grew more fond of him and so did my family and that's when we together as a team began writing and making music. He taught me so much when it comes to production, singing and writing. It took alot of work but we got off of our feet. Yeah, he made me pretty known in the Netherlands from performing at gigs and such but hey we wanted a more international appeal and Night really didn't have that type of connection outside of home so together as little fish faced with big fish we really started working harder. Small shows in the U.S small shoes all over Europe, mainly in The United Kingdom and once again after all the hard work talent scout and owner of Junction Records got a word of me after my show in England in mid December and he contacted me to come and tryout in January and after weeks of waiting, he was delighted to sign me to a deal, it was announced officially in February....
How did you and your Dj feel after hearing the news We both cannot believe it. Its amazing, we worked so hard to get where we are right now and we appreciate it so heavily.
So where is DJ Night? He's still by my side, always behind the scenes ha. He's my main producer and DJ and will be present whenever I perform, everyone will hear a lot about him but he's always said he'll remain by my side because we've grown so inseparable, as friends and business partners of course, and we respect everything each other does, that's why we are so successful as workers, and as friends.
So now that you have the contract, are you releasing any music anytime soon? We've gotten word about your debut single. Very soon actually. My single called 'Killer In Disguise' is coming out tomorrow with its first listen coming today!
Cannot wait, sounds like a great name. Can you tell us about the song? All I can say is that its an amazing Progressive Trance, House song that will tell a story and get people off their seats, its really amazing.
Are you nervous about moving onto a broader spectrum with House music? Not at all. I think people will enjoy it..
What do you think about newly artists that have been debuting in 2011? I think there all great! Everyone has different stories to tell and different music to make, I enjoy all types of music but at the same time try to stay in my own lane.
Do you consider yourself different then? Not exactly...I'm not afraid. I'm edgy, crazy and straightforward, and someone else may not be. Doesn't mean where entirely different as people and artists.
Thank you for your time and best of luck
