![UserPostedImage](http://dyingscene.com/wp-content/uploads/brian-fallon.jpg) The new single for the solo album of TMK's frontman has just been released and finds waves in the untested of waters of McDougal's other influences. From New Orleans Jazz, Delta Blues, Folk, and back again. His big time punk rock influences are expressed as being Sublime, The Dead Milkmen, Rise Against, The Misfits, Minor Threat, Social Distortion and Bad Religion. But it has also been known that these punk rock bands influence the band in particular with a few other artists that are way out of that vein. The new single pays homage to Bob Dylan, Hank Williams Sr., and Robert Johnson as being the chief influences behind the inspiration of the solo album in general which is called "Unwashed and Well Read." McDougal has commented on the album and the new single as a whole by saying:
"I really wanted to tackle the genres that TMK usually distorts and adds a punk rock fusion too in its most purest form. I also wanted to give this solo album a huge nod to my roots and where I come from. For the few covers on the album it's going to be intensely personal and I plan to take to the acoustic way more than I usually do. I actually plan on releasing the album on the country charts which really says to me how universal music is regardless of whatever genre you're in."
With that said we'd like to present to you the review for the newest single from McDougal's solo album that has yet to be released. We've had trouble reviewing TMK's latest album as a whole due to licensing problems. But we do promise to bring the review to you in the future.Single: When The Ship Comes InThis is a rare protest song that's done by Bob Dylan and has been taken in its original form by McDougal. Though there's no harmonica to accompany the song in that Dylan style he does pay homage to the song by giving it that Dylan singing twang while strumming on his guitar. Johnny says that it's actually one of his favorite Bob Dylan songs that should've got just as much attention as "The Times They Are A-Changin." It's a great way to introduce an album that is almost purely acoustic by using a Dylan tune to do it justice. B-Side 1: KingfishThis is another cover of a Randy Newman that features an ensemble of musicians but doesn't have Johnny providing his voice to the track. He backs up his Grandfather who does all the singing for this track that in the reviewer's opinion should've been the single. The song was actually leaked on TMK's youtube before the single was. "High and Lonesome" Jack McDougal has musical roots that extend back to Hank Williams Sr. as a contemporary country and bluegrass artist who released several albums before fading away into obscurity in the 60s. But he makes a triumphant comeback on this track with his soulful southern voice while picking away on the mandolin. Not only is this b-side a standout track it will also be a standout on the album as well. It is purely amazing and can be heard here. Kingfish B-Side 2: Thunder On The MountainBob Dylan covered this song from Wanda Jackson and Johnny took it to once again make this song his own. Even changing the lyrics from Dylan's reference to Alicia Keys and Jackson's Jerry Lee. McDougal's was actually Henry Rollins. This isn't a real standout track. But it's good enough to make a mark on the kind of album that McDougal is making. "Wondering where Henry Rollins could be? I've been lookin' for him all the way through D.C." Washington D.C. of course is the hometown of Rollins. So some how McDougal is able to make an interesting punk rock reference in a song that has nothing to do with it.Along with the new single there was another disc released with the album that contained footage from their tour for "Screamin' On The Mountain" and a secret track that was originally meant for the album that was never released. It was issued as downloadable content along with commentary on the track as a whole from Johnny and Joe which can now be heard officially on here. That we are officially making available to you, the fans. Johnny: This feud between Doc and, whatever the other dude's name is. It's ridiculous really. What is it? Jizzm? Joe: I think so man. Real hardcore gangsta shit. With a name like that. Makes me shake in my shoes. We keep waiting for it to end by these guys capping each other but it just won't happen. Johnny: When will it end? God let it end! After hearing enough of their bs we called in our old buddies The Grass Kickers. Then had them come down off the hill to cut a song with me and Joe here. We came up with this song here and called it "Gangsta Lean." They gave me and Joe the writing credits of course. It took a few joints and a few sips from the bottle to perfect it. Joe: Word. By the way, the collective is where it's at. Johnny: Agreed my friend agreed. Anyway here's "Gangsta Lean" for yall. From us to you. Joe: Because we do love you of course. Enjoy it, and the surprise cover that shows up afterwards. Johnny: G's up ho's down. You mutha fuckas bounce to that. Joe: Word to your mother. TMK's in the house bitches. Downloadable Content Gangsta LeanGin and Juice |

Johnny: The only touring troubles we're having is getting supporting acts mostly for our latest full album. We extend our invitation to any artist that would like to come along with us for a few dates. Still waiting on Johnny Guitar and The Bastards to get back to us. Anybody else, let us know and it'll be a damn good time. |
