1. Paradoxical
2. Shattered
3. This Isn't A Pyramid, It's A Triangle!

Moronic Changeling - you know the ones. Every single shop assistant in the universe has been serenaded with that damn song (and most of the time, remained single afterwards). But still, you have to love them. Kaethe, Somerset, Nick and forever-by-their-side manager Jimmy should win Nobel Prizes for ingenuity and longevity.

"Paradoxical", a strangely metallic song for the Moronics, doesn't let us down as far as the madcore music movement or whatever it is that Moronic Changeling stand for goes. The theme is - well, paradoxical. Oxymoronic changeling, contradictions. (Kaethe Jenkins compared it to Alanis Morissette's "Ironic", but said that the words are "longer and harder". Oh, Kaethe.) The words are tough, but the way she's singing them? Anyone who's up on thrash metal history will remember hyperthrash mentalists K.I.C.K.A.R.S.E. - another band led by Mrs. Jenkins, even crazier than this one. The dynamic between Kaethe and the newbies is very much like the dynamic between K.I.C.K.A.R.S.E., making the music similarly relaxed.

"We started it as a serious song, sort of whimsical," says bassist Somerset Bissell, who co-wrote the song with Nick Biggs. "But the addition of these three could turn it into anything. And hey, Kaethe is the Queen of Thrash, so we can do something more like that. If you liked K.I.C.K.A.R.S.E., you'll like this!" Nick didn't comment (either that or we couldn't hear it through that pirate accent of hers), but she was busy-busy-busy mixing in the drums. "This is possibly Moronic Changeling's most complex drum tab yet," Somerset continues. "Nick is a fucking genius. It was hard to keep up with her, but I think I managed it! We provided a good back end for Ketz and the boys to have fun with." (Oh, Summie.)

Ex-Moronic Lukey Comatose, new guys Dante & Damien - like a good back end

Onto "Shattered", and the whimsy softens up to a more delicate sound, perhaps what Somerset was originally going for. This is Kaethe's writing (which is why some of the words are in German, others in Dutch, others in English but in the wrong order). "It's about money, and Kasia." Deep and meaningful - Kaethe inherited the riches of sextillionaire Kasia 'Kash' van Mouschi. All those millions and billions, wouldn't it be wonderful? But despite all she's gained financially, and despite not having a great relationship with Kasia, she would much rather have her half-sister back. "I avoid rich lists, this is why - she made this money, I just happen to have it."

Finally, "This Isn't A Pyramid, It's A Triangle!" is also about money, but very different. "The song name was the first thing I ever said to Dan," says Damien. "I was getting involved in some multi-level marketing, Dan was like, 'it's a pyramid scheme' or something, and I insisted, rather loudly, that rather than the illegal pyramid, this was a TRIANGLE scheme! So Dan and I made up this song where we're sort of against each other. You have the different characters, Dan plays the customer, Kaethe plays the top of the triangle, I play the bottom." I bet you do - how much gay innuendo can we fit in here!? Back to the song. This is where you either miss Lukey Comatose, or you're glad that he's left. In "Paradoxical" and especially "Shattered", you could easily pull out Dan and Damien and put in Lukey and Jimmy. But much like the Moronics' previous single "One Lost Cell" very much belonged to Lukey, this B-side is the boys' first real showing of their style. They're much more like The Blackout than Bright Eyes, but attached to these girls, they could be anything.

So, will you be buying this? Who do you prefer on the axe, Dante Helyer or Lucas 'Baby Comatose' Robbins? (Personally I had a soft spot for Brisky, but that's just me.)
