Stephanie Fierce definitely seems to be head-strong about her fifth studio album, which is titled "Free" and it looks like Steph isn't holding back her abilities for this one. What exactly is so "Free" about the album? It's not just the spirit of record, but the album itself since it will be made available for free download once released. Aside from that, on March 28, 2011, it was announced that the lead single off "Free", titled "Dying In the Airwaves" will be released May 15th, 2011 for free download as well. Lyrics will also be posted May 5th (10 days before the song premiere). The title has however left fans wondering what direction the artists is heading with her music. So far all the fans know, is that the album will contain dance aspects and only one track has been heard from the record.

It was confirmed that "Destroy Me" (Working-title-Name) will be included in the track-list of the album. Stephanie Fierce debuted the song in a live performance for the first time at the Total Annihilation Festival during her set. As you can hear, Steph goes back to her roots in the record. What is exactly her' roots'? Too many roots to find out. It seems that Stephanie Fierce intelligently has branded herself to become an all-for one artist. Embracing too many genres to be molded into one.

Surprisingly, Stephanie Fierce spoke with us just recently and told us a bit more about the record and along with the shocking surprise of her new single!

"I'm ready to make my guitar playing debut on my new single "Dying in the Airwaves". I'm ready to be slayed and criticized by anyone. I have to break the ice. But I feel like it's a part of who I am. I can't ignore my abilities."

While it seems a bit weird, Stephanie Fierce talking about guitar playing, this is not the first time Steph has played the guitar. In her Dirty Bastard's concert last December, Steph did a song while playing an acoustic guitar. While messing up, she did stellar compared to most beginners.

"It's not a big deal, but I know people, especially those who hate me, will try to make it a big deal. I played my very first song on the guitar about four years ago. I took a fair amount of classes afterwards, played here and there in my own time. But for the past year I've been playing like crazy. After that, then I wanted to make love to my electric guitar! BUT....... I was an electric guitar virgin, so there is definitely some tension and anxiety there. Which is why the lyrics didn't seem to matter to me when I recorded "Dying in the Airwaves". There is more emphasis on my guitar playing. I just really fell in love with it. If i would want anyone to 'critique' my guitar playing, I would want it to be either Ryan Ross Hernandez or Jason Smith. Because they have been doing it for so long and I really enjoy their honesty."

Most of the time or typically all about the lyrics, but for some reason I wasn't 'as' obsessive with the writing process..... as I've always been. Still was, but It sort of just came out naturally with this particular song. Now the guitar playing in the other hand..... It was a difficult task. Sorry for rambling (giggles)"

Stephanie fierce described to us the single "Dying in the Aiwaves" over the phone and here's what she said:

"I had an official listen to "Dying in the Airwaves", alone once again. I want to dance to it, but I just can't. It's not a dance record. I think I Lied...... I mean, some songs lean more to the dance aspect. They are meant for you to dance to. Dance as in the art of it, not the sex shit...... But I don't know what took over me as of late because the song builds up with these intense "discordant chords" I was playing. The production is almost nothing without the ambient sounds, since I am used to hearing these "discordant chords" in a lot indie folk-rock songs. I didn't want it to be 'that' typical. My vocals are a bit warm, mellow and melancholic (yes). I almost sound like I'm holding back vocally, but I'm not and that's what makes it beautiful. Is that you can hear me 'afraid' for once, its not about confidence, or ego-like vocals, but within all-that there, confidence somehow makes its way and hopefully you feel what the record is about.

What was challenging about this song, is that is too emotional and the lyrics seem too legit when I wrote them. I became afraid of the record in the process of making it. That also happened when I recorded Heart & Salt. Only this time it was two times too strong. I don't see that as a bad thing, but I'm nervous about what peopel will think. Hopefully it's an enjoyable listen. It's all I want!"

Ryan Ross Hernandez: "Oh shit! Stephanie Fierce plays guitar?! Damn, we gotta have a jam session one day. If there is one thing that I believe I have the enough talent and expertise to critique people in is guitar playing, since I've been playing it for the last fifteen years."

Ryan Ross Hernandez: "As long as you don't call me sir, I think we could jam, haha. I'm 31, call me sir when I'm at least 40 or have kids or something. But in seriousness, I would love to see you play guitar. I have a pretty lofty guitar collection, roughly around 230 guitars. Haha, you really shouldn't be I'm not a metalhead who sets his guitar on fire or anything like that. I'm a pretty bluesy guitar player I'd say, but I have a very good ear, so I could incorporate many different genres to my guitar playing."

Stephanie Fierce: I only joke with the 'sir' thing Ryan, you're not much older than me ;) At heart, I still see you as a young kid. That def sounds interesting though. I only have two guitars (one acoustic, one both electric and acoustic), but I will most def like to explore others. I need to perfect my confidence with it and I think you can push me to be confident. You most def can incorporate a lot of genres, which is why I admire your guitar playing. You can teach me somethings here and there, that would be awesome!

Oh please, don't see me as the socially awkward weird kid I was when I started my career, haha. Well I think I have my guitars in my house, than you would find in a guitar shop, so you could definitely try some new ones out. I could teach some tricks, all I ask for in return is if the lesson pays off, you cover one of my songs on guitar at a concert, hahaha."

Stephanie Fierce: I don't want people to get the idea that I'm trying to become the next Ryan Ross Hernandez, I just simply want to do some records, heavy guitar based. Honestly, I'm lucky Ryan is even taking time to teach me a few things. If anything, I'm just happy to get the opportunity.

Ryan Ross Hernandez: "Do I really not show my nice side enough? I'm trying to find a balance to all my sides. Hahaha, well I never really thought Stephanie Fierce was hitting on me or falling for my tricks, but now you have me thinking Steph.... ha! Wait, what? Me? Ryan Ross Hernandez has tricks he plays on women? ;) Yeah, I'm sure I could. I would likely start you off with something simple like the wah-wah effect that I have custom placed on the guitar I use for 'A Never-Ending Trip to Heartbreak,' which doesn't even require actual pedal. I think I could help you out with that as well, I mean I experimented a lot on the last two records with guitars. The song I made with Miss Vanity has a extremely heavy and distorted guitar solo, which for it I just put the reverb effect to max. I can be very neat with my guitar playing, many of my songs are as such, but at times it's just all about being raw and putting the emotion of the song on a guitar solo to bring it altogether. An example of that is the solo for 'The Other Side of Desire,' which is a bit complicated to play but incredibly raw. But I do honestly believe that you should become more familiar with clean guitar playing, meaning without any effects before doing tricks with the revolver. Well I honestly was just kidding about that. I just think you have a big voice in the music world, and if kids who are into pop music and have never really thought about picking up a guitar, see you playing it that could motivate them to see that guitars aren't just a rock, or a blues thing anymore. I'm glad to help someone who really does want to get better at it and wants to incorporate it to her own music. That's all. I'm sure we'll have a fun jam session no matter what."

Stephanie Fierce: No, you don't (giggles). Well if I ever did hit on you, you will never know, hehe. But I'm dating someone so, that's not a subject in matter ;)
But yes, you better not be kidding, because I'm more interested now. I hope you don't think, I think you're trying to sound egotistic. That would be great to start with something like on "A Never Ending Trip To Heartbreak" Not simple, but not too difficult. I do prefer clean guitar playing over all, maybe I should just perfect that with my music first. But experimenting, is something I'm interested in doing, so I guess we could progressively get to it. I've been listening to "The Other Side of Desire" as of late and I actually was interested, but overwhelmed, so we'll start with something more basic (laughs). I am a big voice, but I'm pretty sure many people already look up to you and have picked up a guitar because of YOU, many times. Don't beat yourself too much now Ryan! This Jam session is a pinnacle in my music career, so bring it on, I'll come visit you in a day I have off from tour and maybe we could video capture this moment, and show it to the fans. If you want to of course :)

Stephanie Fierce: If my music heals your pain, then that's beautiful!

OOC: Thanks! :)
