Why do people feel compelled to be different and feeling awkward because of gender? Why are the stereotypical "male-friendly" or "female friendly" activities such an important factor about the way people turn out to be?

This thread relates to my other one, and just basically give your opinion, no matter how sexist or racist it will be....within reason.

Well i think that both genders should be treated equally and everything but we should be realistic. There are just some things that are more suitable for men or more suitable for women. Or maybe i should say there are some things that men should do that women shouldn't like.

It's partly evolutionary, partly cultural norms. Men are naturally bigger, stronger, they think and act quickly. Women are naturally more caring, group-oriented, they think more carefully about the long-term future. It's why women are often more interested in a serious relationship than men, and men have commitment issues. Evolutionarily speaking men are driven to procreate with multiple females to make sure their seed is passed on.

Now that we live in complex societies, we are to some extent free of these evolutionary impulses, or at least we try to be. In terms of their roles in society, men are more feminine than before, women are more masculine, and that's all fine by me. In many cases it's beneficial to get the input of both genders on any given situation. It's an old cliché, but what would the world be like now if women's liberation happened 500 years ago? Maybe it's true, power and war are essentially male pre-occupations.
