"A Madbird's work is never done," said a very wise person. (Obviously, me. Kate was the first to say it, and she's a bit daft.) Since Kato's signing with Studio 60, Kamikaze Kate has got him and her BFF in the studio to work on second single "Devil Of Mine". The song will be written by Moronic Changeling's Nickola 'Nick' Biggs, probably with a little help from Kate to round off any piratey bits - I don't think Kato'll get much of a look in. It'll feature all three of them.
"I trust Nick," he said, "I really do. She is the most talented musician I've ever met. She's like my musical grandma, in a way." Nick is 39, so I'm not quite sure how much she'll appreciate that comment. "Because Kate discovered me and manages me, and Nick's the same for Kate." Actually, if we're being technical, Kaethe Jenkins discovered both Kate and Kato, but neither Nick nor Kate actually like Kaethe, Kato'll probably hate her too, so let's pretend that she had nothing to do with anything. She's a nutjob, she won't notice.
The song's called "Devil Of Mine" and it's written by a screaming drummer. Expecting something metal? "Obviously. I'm practising a few Aerospliff songs at home, being as they were Kate's favourite." Was that a slight shudder there, Kato? "Damien and Dan think it's hilarious, but I'm persevering. Next up, I might try a bit of Thunderwolf - but I know that I'll never get to that level of genius in any genre." True, but attempting to sing like Raven may help your voice break.
Why are you working on your next song so soon when your first single has yet to chart? "Kate says you have to stay ahead of the game, especially when you're signed to a label. I don't want to let Studio 60 down - or Kate, for that matter." Yes, letting Kamikaze Kate down could have consequences, though if you want to keep your voice that high, it might be a good move. "Plus, if you've got inspiration, you've got to go with it - it's not always there."
I'm Cayla Hotline, and that was a cuppa with undergrown Welsh sweetheart Katriel Comyns. Lovely boy - I wonder how long that'll last? |
