 When you think of pop superstar, you think of someone who dominates the world of music. Someone who’s name is constantly talked about when people talk about the world of Pop. Our Billboard cover-story features one of the world’s biggest stars. Even though the journey to stardom has not been an easy road, Tisha Jackson appreciates the bumps along the road that helped shaped her into “the woman she is today”, she says. Her elegance can capture the whole room, many can be amazed how a young woman could be so regal. With her new album, Reveal being released June 28th Tisha is at an all-time high in her career so far, releasing two Top 5 singles and having your album receive acclaim before its release can make any 22 year old woman smile.
Tisha Jackson is coming off the heels of a very successful predecessor album, I AM…Beautifully Human was released last year. It proved to be one of the biggest albums last year selling 7 million copies worldwide, her tour that supported the album has grossed approximately 74 million dollars. Tisha has a lot to live up to with her new album, Reveal. Its something she doesn’t worry about. “I don’t worry about which album does better than which. I rather prefer the quality of the album. What I am giving people means so much to me. I dedicate so much to my fans and I always want them to experience me at my best'.
With all the success, Tisha still remains humble. Calling herself, “The same little girl from Brooklyn”. It’s hard to believe that the 22 year old entertainer still finds it hard to believe her stardom. “It’s something that I am used to but I still think about, why do all these people care about me? Why has God choose this life for me? It can be a bit overwhelming at times but I just want my fans to know that they are a group of people that I love and hold to my heart dearly. I just want them to know that I am one of them. I just am so grateful. Billboard: Hello Tisha, How are you? Billboard and I are so happy to have you here today.
Tisha: I am doing great! Thank you guys for having me, I am so happy to be here talking with you.
Billboard: Alright, so let’s jump straight into it, where did the concept come for Reveal?
Tisha: You know, it took me a really long time to create a concept for Reveal because I loved the album so much I didn’t want anything to ruin the project at all. So I said to myself when I began recording that I would let the project just grow and evolve. I took my time and allowed time to gradually take its course and evolve into something great. So when it came time to name the album, I thought about the evolution of the album, and how when something evolves it reveals different layers of itself.
Billboard: What is your favorite song off the album?
Tisha: I love all the songs on the album. So that makes the decision difficult. But…uhhh… I would have to say it’s a tie between, Living The Life (Superstar) because it features so many great artist of our time and 20 Different Languages. But all of them, In my eyes I see all of these songs as potential singles. I am just simply in love with this album.
Billboard: How does it feel almost five years deep into your career?
Tisha: Like the beginning! I feel like I have been through so much in such a short amount of time. I feel like we’ve achieved so much in such a short amount of time. And there is a hell of a lot of things left to be done. I love what God has done for me and the amazing space that he has put me in. I am just thankful.
Billboard: What was the last CD that you’ve purchased or the next CD you plan on purchasing?
Tisha: Ummmm, the last CD that I’ve purchased? It probably was Jennifer Hudson’s, I Remember Me record, and Jennifer Lopez’s Love? record. Which are two great records by the way. And the next CD I plan on buying is Free by Stephanie Fierce, and I hear GirlSpice is recording some new material, so when that drops you know, I’ll buy it.
Billboard: Speaking of GirlSpice. How is it working with them? You guys seem like you have a lot of fun and enjoy working together.
Tisha: We have a great deal of fun. It’s amazing how much you enjoy yourself when you’re working. We just have a blast whenever were together. Like, can you imagine a group of women just laughing and cackling like a bunch of high school girls? It’s always special when we get together.
Billboard: We have all heard your new single, Intimacy. And everyone is wondering will there be a video to the single.
Tisha: I am announcing it here in this interview with Billboard Magazine. The answer to you guys question is yes there will be a music video for Intimacy. I want it to be really special so we took our time with the concept. Part of the video will be shot in Miami and the other half we are going to take it down to the Bahamas to film. It should be out in the next two or three weeks. But I do know that the single will be out on mainstream and urban radio on Monday, June 27.
Billboard: You’ve announced your tour, have you started planning and rehearsing for it yet?
Tisha: Yes, we are planning the sets and costumes right now. Actually last night I was looking at the costumes that our set designer created for us and they are amazing. We are half way done with the costumes. Rehearsals begin the second week of July and we should be opening sometime in August for sure. I know by next week we should be finished with the costumes and stuff so you all should be getting a specific date next week on when our first show is.
Billboard: You seem like a Renaissance woman. Are there any perfumes, clothing lines, that kind of merchandise coming up?
Tisha: Yes!! Definitely. There are a lot of things that are in store but I cannot talk about them right now. Maybe by the end of the year you’ll hear about it.
