Tisha Jackson and her team are running Rampid after the failed released of her latest album Reveal. The singer last effort, I AM...Beautifully Human sold an impressive 7 million copies worldwide last year. If you ask anyone, they would agree that that is alot of records to be sold, because of how distressed the economy has been recently. Tisha's latest effort, Reveal was supposed to do big numbers this week, according to her record label, Junction Records, Reveal was supposed to sell 200,000-300,000 in its opening week. However, everyone including music insiders, fans, Tisha, and her team have all come to an hault and a shock when Tisha's album only sold 173,000 copies opening week and only debuting in the Top 20 in America as well as other regions in the world. Her fans were eager to see her perform and do interviews promoting the album this whole week but they were completly lost this week when Tisha didn't perform or conduct any interviews anywhere. After her only performance on Jimmy Kimmel this Monday, all promotions for the week were cancelled. This left many of her fans enraged.
Tisha's album, Reveal has suffered a large amount due to the lack of promotion she has recieved this week. Music insiders and Album chart exeutives were at a complete lost for words this weel. Here is what Micheal Harrison (Co-Executive of Marketing at Billboard) had to say, "What has happened to Tisha this week hasn't happened to any artist in the last ten years. It is so sad to see the outcome of what was supposed to be a sucessful record. But with no word from her Record label as of yet we can only identify about 9o% of the problem.
Billboard's President Mark Zellinger, "I could imagine how furious Tisha Jackson is with her label. When you think of a label, you think of someone who is supposed to protect you, someone who supports you and gives you the support you need no matter what, and Tisha hasn't experienced that with Junction Records. Can you imagine the money that was lost this week between her, her team, and her reocrd label. I can't tell you what I want to say about the reocrd and what it's release and outcome reminds me of because it's too early to say, but by next week I'll be able to compare'.
After an entire week of not knowing anything Tisha has finally released a statement on the album and it's outcome.
" Alot of things have happened this week that are so unexpected. I have to say that Juction Records were really sloppy and unprofessional with the release of my new album. It makes me so upset and it really angers me when I think of it. There was alot riding on this record and the outcome was totally not planned. From the beginnig of releasing singles I could Tell that the label didn't support the album finacially. I can say they did support it creativley though. But finacilly I never had proper funding from them. I can't get into exact numbers right now because unfortunatley there are now lawyers involved in this situation. But I had to take 500,000 dollars of my own money to promote the album for the last two months. The label figured that since they gave me a big budget to create the album they didn't have to fund for promotion. Unfortualtely this caused the album to result in the way that it did. I am unclear on what I want my relationship to be like at the label but expect to hear someting about my relationship with the label sometime next week".
From what we have heard from Tisha and her team, Tisha recieved a big budget for the album to be created however, she need funding to promote it as well. The record label refused to give her any funding for promotion and said if they had to come out of their pockets then the parts of the album would have to be scrapped and re-done and the budget would have to be shortened on the album. Tisha refused to get rid of any of her collaborators and lessen production on the album and the label didn't give her any funding at all to promote her record. So, Tisha took 500,000 dollars of her own money and promoted the album from May until now hoping her label would pitch in but they did not budge. Tisha also took some of the money and spent it on many adds that were supposed to premiere last week and this week but her label threatened to sue her if she went through with any of her ads because it wasn't label money that funded the promotion. Tisha had, The View, Good Morning America, David Letterman, 106 & Park, and In The Spotlight With Robin Roberts booked all to be filmed and aired this week and next week but her labeled scrapped all of the promotions she booked because they did not sign over any agreement forms in her contract that scheduled her to be on those shows. So the reasoning for the lack of promotion and low sales were because of Tisha's label cancelling all her promotion and interviews and her losing 500,000 dollars out of the "reported" 64 million she made last year. Either way we will see how this Tisha vs. Junction Records will all play out in the upcoming weeks.
OOC: I wanted to try and change things surrounding the Tisha character. I wanted this album and "era" to kind of be different and alot more dramtaic in her life. Her last 4 albums have all been sucessful and you know every artist falls from grace from titme to time and have their moments, so this is Tisha's moment to do that. I hope you all understand this route I am taking with her, its a bit different but I think you'll get it. Edited by user 02 July 2011 14:29:46(UTC)
