"
Mona Lisa" is the first single of the upcoming album "
Distorted Perception", unlike Giselle's previous singles, Mona Lisa verges into a soft pop/r&b style with a largely string, guitar, and electronic instruments thrown into the mix. The leaked version was a dance pop version of the song, but that has since been scrapped. The newer version features updated lyrics and a few changes to the chorus. The lyrics were inspired by legendary actress Marilyn Monroe, which speaks of a woman who has everything on the outside, but is truly empty in the inside. All she wants is true love, someone who she can share her life with. But "Mona Lisa" never gets that, all she gets is heart ache, she lonely and miserable. The song sounds, dreamy and spacy and very relaxing. Giselle sings in a soft angelic like voice, her voice sounds as if its one with the instruments. Although the song may sound light, the lyrics are dark which makes an interesting contrast. The album version has the spoken intro, which has a circus theme. The single version does not have the intro.
Dark Blue is in the Album version
Dark red in the single version
[Spoken intro]
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Boys and girls step right up,
I have a story to tell
About a girl who hid behind her smile
Her name was Mona Lisa.
[Verse 1]
Mona Lisa was a sad girl
Who hid behind a sad mask
Painted with smile and sunshine
But behind this mask was tears
And fears for the world
She thought she knew,
a world she thought she could trust
[Chorus]
That Mona Lisa is beautiful (she’s)
So amazing (she’s)
So incredible
But she’s sad, sad, so sad
Mo-mo-mo Mona Lisa (2x)
[Verse 2]
Mona Lisa was perfect on the outside
But was suffering in the inside
She lived the glitz, the glamour,
Had the money and the fame
But behind the beauty was a life of emptiness
She cried herself to sleep at night
Wishing that she might, find life’s true meaning
Wishing that someone could heal the pain
So that she may one day be free
Don’t cry Mona Lisa (it’ll all be okay)
[Chorus]
That Mona Lisa is beautiful (she’s)
So amazing (she’s)
So incredible
But she’s sad, sad, so sad
Mo-mo-mo Mona Lisa (2x)
[Bridge]
All she wanted was someone to love her
All she wanted was someone to feel her pain
To feel her happiness
To wipe her tears away
To share her virtue
[Guitar solo]
.
.
[Whispers]
(I like that)
[Music fades down]
But it’s too late, Mona Lisa is gone
She’s gone
(Gone)
.
[Chorus 2x slow fade]
(Ad libs)
)
