She is the youngest of 3, and never seen her fathers face, often causing her to act out. She took her anger into writing poems. Her writing of poems caused her to begin writing songs, which she eventually began to sing. By the time she was 12, she had been taking vocal lessons after school. During her early teen life, she began performing at local school talent shows and began to gain popularity in Atlanta. She released her first single "Sightseeing" at the age of 16, and it became an underground success. This led to Aleah winning an award at the "Underground Music Awards".
