Dum Dum Girls - Bedroom Eyes
Well this seems unremarkable. Not nearly as outright offensive as Nicki Minaj & Lil Wayne, just kinda...I wouldn't want to smash my own face in if this came on in the background at a friends. But that's not really a massive endorsement, is it? Just feels like something I've heard before done better elsewhere.

I present to you Weezer. This my most listened to track of the last 3 months. I'm kinda hooked on it. I love where Rivers was at in the writing of Pinkerton, it's really simple, catchy pop-rock but it just clicks with me.

5/10:

Didn't much enjoy it for my first listen, but it's catchy enough for me to know I'd probably like it on another day, and in the song's defense, I've been listening to Passion Pit for the morning so I'm all popped out.

Haven't posted much about They Might Be Giant's for a while, so how about a dark birthday song?:

It's inoffensive, but pretty unexciting. I can see what they're going for, but they kind of ran the idea into the lyrical ground and it didn't go anywhere interesting musically. The video is slightly more interesting. I really think They Might be Giants are the sort of band I will never understand the geek appeal of. My former flatmate got a DVD of them doing songs for every venue they played on a tour, but all the songs were forgettable and short and of no real substance. Anyway.

Relaxing and soft. Almost heavenly, but I'm not into songs that slow. For some reason it sounds like something in a movie.

7/10 - Never been a big Foreigner fan and the vocals make me want to listen to ACDC more than anything, but I do like the up-beat tempo and the chorus is catchy as fuck. Classic rock, eh?

Noise-Rock that isn't Shellac or MeltBanana, so Lightning Bolt!

Regardless, it doesn't really do much for me. From the same era there are such luminaries as Slayer (thrash), or Venom ("evil")that are MUCH better at what I think this band is trying to do. I've heard worse, but i've also heard much better.
3/10, because I think that they're being sincere.

It was okay, but I wouldn't choose to listen to it. Just seemed a bit pointless, didn't have any idea behind it and the music wasn't really good enough to make up for the lack of that.

Tyler The Creator - Bastard
Nu-metal angst comes to hip-hop. I've never found Tyler's voice particularly interesting, & this just does nothing for me. The music is just nothing. Over-hyped pish. I'd much rather listen to Taint. I will say that Goblin is a more interesting record than Bastard, but I'm not sure how much more.
2/10

So I've posted 3 tracks in this thread & none of them have been metal, which is slightly unrepresentative of what I listen to the most. So now it's time to change that. With some Scandinavian black metal. This is a group called Shining from Sweden, not to be confused with the less interesting group from Norway called Shining.

Lyrics are all in Swedish, but this track's title translates as 'Let Us Take Everything from Each Other'

dear god how i hate black metal.. not sure why but i really really do. I love most other types, but black metal does just sound like angry noise to me....
having said that, this isn't the worst i have heard, solid guitar, angry shouting lyrics, melodic bit in the middle, which i actually really enjoyed, piano's rock, even when its someone crying in the background... 4/10

time for some frou frou, an excellent two piece band from the Uk in the vein of Bjork...

Well this is a song ive known for a while now. I actually heard Boys Like Girls' cover before ever hearing the original. They sound very similar but it's still a very good song! It's a little bland for me though, I usually don't like electronica. I prefer Imogen Heaps solo music to her work in Frou Frou, but this is one of the better songs they did. 6/10

This band has been impressing me so much lately. New album due out tomorrow, this song is a good teaser.

I love the tears in that track. It's a blissful slice of misery

The lyrics seem slightly off-kilter, which is throwing me ("Don't put the bones in your back, they are in your back, and they are back" - what the fuck?), but it seems pretty unexciting overall. Perfectly melodic and pleasant though, just uninteresting. It doesn't seem to go anywhere, no emotional arc, it just kind of stays at the exact same tempo and in the same key and in the same overall mood throughout. 5/10.

Here's something a little heavier, without being too heavy.

Ahh... zozobra. Though I prefer the first album, I do really enjoy both. One of those "supergroups" (for lack of a better term) that works, at least for me.

i think thats what i liked about it as well, nice juxtasupose between the genre in general and the slices of melencholy and saddness in that track..

Black Dub - i believe in you 9/10

Fantastic song, right from the slow intro and build-up, i have always been a fan of Daniel Lanois work, and this just proves how good a producer and artist he is, combining the work of Trixie Whitley, Daryl Johnson and Brian Blades is pure genius! the hit-hat drum is used perfectly on the track as is Trixie's voice, well backed up by solid Bass work from Johnson. Its just such a smooth relaxed and yet brilliant song that i could quite easily listen to it over and over again with the lights off, and feel like i was in 1950's New Orleans.. I do think Ring the alarm is th ebest track on the album though :)

gah, how do i follow that up? going to have to be a bit of Miles Davis

Hmm, im not sure. It isn't something I would listen to nor would it ever find its way into my iTunes. That's not to say it isn't good. I don't have extensive knowledge or an ear for brass instruments but it's a nice relaxed song. Although I find it boring to listen to, it doesn't really progress much. I felt myself expecting it to take off with a few more instruments or a different rhythm to be taken. 3/10 - my opinion only.

Time to whip out the wildcard! glorious musician.
