This is a Kerrang! via-e-mail interview with ex-Hellspawn guitarist Tom Wheels, currently working on his first solo album to be released in April 2012...

1) What can you advance on your upcoming album?
My upcoming album is more progressive and not so straightforward as Hellspawn's albums, and it is more extreme metal orientated. Everybody hears music in a different way and everybody is right too. After doing this for more than 20 years I have stopped trying to analyze and categorize or even explain music. Even if I am mixing a very complicated song with a very big mixing desk and huge amount of effects, I never think on technical terms but emotionally. What emotion I can achieve or which emotion/emotions the particular song has. The connection of emotions and music is yet to be realized.

2) What did lead you to taking the decision to dissolve Hellspawn?
The reason is very simple. The last years with the band were horrible. People who wanted to make hits and other people who wanted to follow as we were, a metal band. So I decided to dissolve the band...David (Hoster, vocalist) wanted to do something more commercial and I didn't want to make Hellspawn a commercial band. It was MY band and I could follow with it without David but I decided to stop...There was happening a lot of shit and I just needed a break from the industry.

4) Which is your favourite album of your entire career? Which is your better work in your opinion?
I like Hellspawn's first albums a lot. Thousand Eras Of Death was a very good album and so was Anthems Of The Damned, which I think was the peak of the evolution of the band. And Letters From Madmen of Wildstate was a great album too. But I'm really liking my new album...It's going great!

5) Which were the bands and musicians who inspired you? Who do you like nowdays?
We have to go back a long way because I have been doing this for over 20 years.
When I was a teenager, I was listening to a lot of Deep Purple and especially Rainbow. Iron Maiden and Helloween have always been very good bands as well. Also I love bands like Mind, Blood Of Wecz and The Verdict Is Vengeance, great artists.

6) What changes do you notice in the scene between 80's and the present?
Today there is no more Hair Metal, which in many ways overshadowed Heavy because it was so popular on MTV and radio. Now, the true Metal is in the spotlight. Also, there aren't too many groupies now, in the 80's there were a lot *laughs*

7) What analysis can you do of your career?
That I am blessed with a gift of music and I have used that gift to compose songs and I have never looked back. I made the best I could.

Thank you so much for your words and your time! We appreciate it!

Harmony: Holy smokes! Tommy! Hi yah buddie. Its been forever since I spoken to you. Now you're on my computer screen. Haha so cools.

OOC: I really like how you and others are continuing with the interviews for your characters. No clue how long its been since any of my characters have had an interview. Then again I don't have much time to make one with school and work. Hopefully though I can start getting back to them soon but keep up with the good work. You're doing a great job. :)
