One by one, Aubrey sat watching each contestant's performance on the television from her dressing room, which she had demanded be put there along with a few other ridiculous items. Once each performance was over, she thought to herself how each contestant had done by her standards of course, picking those out that had what it took and those that weren't even close to being great. Among them all, there was only one contestant that she thought was at the top, like herself, and would be a challenge to defeat. That person happened to be Keli O'day, everyone else was dead to her but Keli and herself were the true stars of the show. They both had powerful voices and not to mention different styles than any of the other contestants could dream of having. In her eyes, the other contestants are just like every other artists in mainstream music but Keli and her could bring something new to music for the better. Though they were the same, that didn't mean that she would be friends with her, instead she wanted to squash her from the show. She had finally found her real competition and now was the time to step things up and show her that she was the real diva of this show. No one was going to upstage her even if they did have the amazing talent as she did herself. Tonight she was going to show the judges that she deserved to be on all their teams, even if that wasn't possible, and also prove to the contestants what real talent was about.
As the time started winding down close to her performance time, she quickly began to prepare. Looking around the room, she noticed that her team were moving about slowly, getting mad she began to yell. "Chop chop people, we don't have all night! Where is my stylist?" Suddenly a woman with short brown hair wearing a plain short black dress came running in. "Sorry sorry. I didn't mean to come in...." Aubrey held her hand up, cutting her off. "Forget that, what in the world are you wearing. Look honey, I'm going to need you to dress better than that if you're going to be hanging around me. Got that?" The woman looks down at her dress then back up at Aubrey. "Yes mama. I'll dress better." Aubrey walks over towards the chair, sitting down to let her stylist do her hair. "You better if you want to keep your job. Now enough talking, get over here and do my hair. I'm thinking just some curls for tonight." The woman walks over, grabbing the tools she needs and then begins styling Aubrey's hair. Once she's done, Aubrey looks into the mirror, checking for any flaws. Not finding any, she walks over to grab her jacket and her black leather gloves from the sofa while her stylist relaxes, glad that she didn't yell at her for doing something wrong.
Aubrey walked out of her dressing room, putting on the jacket and gloves as she went. When she got towards the area to go out on stage, she saw her backup singers discussing among themselves. When they saw her, they quickly hushed and smiled before speaking. "Good luck Aubrey." Aubrey scoffed. "I don't need luck, I got this, you just don't be the ones to screw up." She walked away, not bothering to stick around to hear their responses. Once she was out of earshot, they turned back around, speaking among themselves. "God she is such a b!t@h. Never been around someone so rude in my life. I swear after this, I'm going back to backing up Monica. She was much nicer." A second girl speaks up. "Girl who you kidding? Miss thang may be mean but she pays well. I'll take the abuse forever to get this money. You know what I'm saying girl?" They all laugh. "Ain't that the truth. Well anyway looks like we're on next so good luck girls." They smiled at each other then head out onto the stage following after the band just as its Aubrey's turn to come on stage. The curtains open and Aubrey's band begins to play "Deborah Cox's "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here" as Aubrey makes her way out on stage, standing, feet apart, in front of her backup singers. The band continues and moments later, Aubrey and her singers, sing the chorus part to the song in unison.
How did you get here? Nobody's supposed to be here I've tried that love thing for the last time My heart says no, no! Nobody's supposed to be here But you came along and changed my mind
She takes a few steps over to the left as the last line of the chorus is sung with her and the other singers. She begins singing the first verse to the song as the judges look upon her. Her background singers are now moving back and worth to the song in slow motion, snapping their fingers to the beat. As she sings, she closes her eyes and clutches her fist, while she makes extra sure to hit the notes just perfectly to show off her powerful vocal skills to not only the judges but the other contestants, who she knows is watching her backstage as she performs.
I've spent all my life, on a search to find The love who'll stay for eternity The heaven sent to fulfill my needs But when I turn around Again, love has knocked me down My heart got broken, oh it hurt so bad I'm sad to say, love wins again
As the song breaks down into the pre-chorus, the backup singers come in to sing. Aubrey walks over to the right of the stage, looking out to her audience, snapping her fingers slowly to the beat as she holds up mic off to the side. Once the first two lines are sung in the pre-chorus, Aubrey holds her mic back up to her lips to sing the last line alone. When the song finally comes to the chorus, the backup singers join back in while Aubrey sings a few "Ooh yeah," "Nobody's suppose to be here," and a few other notes over them.
So I placed my heart under lock and key To take some time, and take care of me But I turn around and you're standing here
How did you get here? Nobody's supposed to be here I've tried that love thing for the last time My heart says no, no! Nobody's supposed to be here But you came along and changed my mind
Aubrey walks over to stand next to her backup singers, looking out at the audience once more, as she sings the second verse. Her backup singers begin to place one hand over their chest and the other remains on their hips as they stand there rocking their bodies slowly to the beat. As Aubrey finishes up with the second verse, they drop their hands and turn back towards their mics to sing the first two lines of the pre-chorus once more. Aubrey returns back to the center of the stage and begins singing out the rest of the song with her back up singers.
This time I swear I'm through But if only you knew How many times I've said those words Then fall again, when will I ever learn Knowing these tears I cry This lovely black butterfly Must take a chance, and spread my wings Love can make you do some crazy things
So I placed my heart under lock and key To take some time, and take care of me But I turn around and you're standing here
How did you get here? Nobody's supposed to be here I've tried that love thing for the last time My heart says no, no! Nobody's supposed to be here But you came along and changed my mind
As the song finishes out, the backup singers sing out the final line to the chorus. Aubrey makes sure to hit a few more high notes, singing them higher than before, as the music and the song ends. She takes a quick bow and turns around to look at her band for a smile, conformation that they did well. Each of them relaxed and smiled back as they were glad to be escaping her wrath for the time being. Aubrey turned back around to look out at the judges, smiling deviously as she waited for what was suppose to come after each performance. |
