‘Wishing You Would’ is the fourth single by 19 year-old American singer-songwriter ‘Ellie-Grace Summers’ and will be the lead single from her upcoming sophomore album due out later in the year. Despite the album still in its early stages of creation, ‘Wishing You Would’ is one of three tracks that have already been completed and will serve as the lead single in order to generate interest surrounding the Country-pop star’s upcoming LP which is expected to be released later in the year. It also marks her first official recording to be released under Studio60 Records who signed the country starlet following the downfall of her original label ‘Monk On Fire Music’.

The single has been described as the perfect introduction to the type of music that Ellie-Grace will be creating on her sophomore album and early reviews have stated that the song shows a maturity in her songwriting after her heavily pop influenced debut in September 2011, she reportedly set out to create a more traditional follow-up album with more of a structure to her songwriting than before and one of the early results are the sombre acoustic track ‘Wishing You Would’ as well as three other tracks that have been already completed and recorded at Blackbird Studio in Nashville, Tennessee. The single will be available to radio playlist from June 27 and will be available to purchase on July 1, 2012.

Background
The song was written around April 2012 while Ellie had returned back home to Tennessee, it’s been common knowledge that she returned home due to family issues that have now been resolved and she confirmed in a recent interview that during her time back home she began to feel more creative and began writing more songs than she had been, “It was a difficult time for me when I first returned home, I realised how much I missed the place I was from and although I was away from the people and places that I had become so used to in Los Angeles I realised that it can’t compare to my hometown, everything felt right with the exception of one thing that was missing, of course now in hindsight it’s a little weird considering that thing that I was missing is no longer there but the song was written with a tinge of sadness at the time.”

The track was recorded at Blackbird Studio in Nashville, Tennessee which has hosted a number of country artists including, Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Leann Rimes, Dixie Chicks, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Keith Urban and many other iconic names in music that include, Rush, R.E.M, Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young. The single was produced by Julian Morello who has already worked alongside names such as Alicia Lena, Luke Striker and Abie Lena on their latest musical offerings and adds Ellie’s name to the ever-growing list of production credits, he’s also a part of Ellie’s record label ‘Studio 60 Records’ and was quick to offer his services to the production of her sophomore album after hearing a demo of one of the future tracks that’s expected to appear on the eventual record.
The production values on the single aren’t a million miles away from the production values of Ellie’s previous work as the sombre nature of the song’s acoustic musical backdrop and tender tones of Ellie’s vocals require very little work and her main aim on this track in particular was for it to sound natural and organic as she later went on to state “I wanted it to have the effect that when people are listening to the song that it would feel like I was sitting in the very same room with the listener and playing the song especially for them and I think Julian and myself have managed to capture that feeling on the track.”

The song is an entirely acoustic track and is solely performed by Ellie-Grace, it’s soft acoustic introduction is tender as she gently plucks the strings of the acoustic guitar repetitively throughout the song, creating an almost soothing sound that sets the mood for the emotional song, as she begins singing the opening lyrics to the song it’s clear that it’s gonna be a slow thoughtful song, it remains at the same pace throughout even during the chorus the song maintains the same slow-burning pace. Ellie’s vocals are soft and quiet, although they prove to overpower the strings of the acoustic guitar it’s the combination of both that work well on the song, her vocals do rise slightly during the third verse in which she questions all that she’s known and shows a slight frustration at being alone and sings about the difficulty with letting herself trust and eventually wishing things could be different for her but it softens again as she realises that she something that she wants and needs is no longer there, no matter how much she wishes for it to arrive and the remains of the song continue to be soft and emotional during its final moments.

Songwriter’s Comment
“Hindsight can be a very painful thing sometimes, with music and writing and art things can take on a different meaning that you initially expected them to and that’s something I came to realise with this song, the timing couldn’t be any worse for me to write my thoughts about the song but it’s not something that I’m gonna dwell on right now. I wrote the song back in April and at the time of writing it I was back home in Tennessee and I realised that I was falling in love with my hometown again, having been away in Los Angeles for what seemed like forever I had sort of managed to leave behind the life that I had in Tennessee but when I returned I realise the things that I miss about the place and I had started to think about the possibility of moving back out here permanently but there was a few things that I was missing from Los Angeles which was of course the life that I had created for myself in LA, my friends and my home.
However, this song now takes on a different meaning for me and having listened back to the song prior to me writing my comments on it I certainly found it a little difficult but life throws all kinds of challenges for people to face and it’s about how you deal with things in the face of difficult and adversity.

Back to the song though, I wanted to create a soft and tender approach with this track in particular and I think it’s a fair indication to how the majority of my sophomore album will sound. Lyrically it feels a little different to the songs that appeared on my debut album and the use of the chorus as the songs main focus is something that I wanted to push forward a little more which is why I feel like the song builds quite well towards the chorus and sets the theme and feelings of the song really well.
Anyway, I guess that’s all there is to say really, I hope you enjoy the song.
- Ellie-Grace Summers xoxo

Lyrics
I’m sitting alone on this hotel bed
The same old thoughts running through my head
Just wondering where you are tonight
I’m hoping your asleep all wrapped up tight
But the truth is clear you just can’t hide
You’re out at a club with some new girl by your side
Dancing the night away while I’m here all alone
With every moment that passes I’m just checking my phone
Hoping you’ll call me unexpectedly
But you’ve never really been a one for honesty

So I’ll lay my head down and stare at the wall
Because sleep doesn’t visit me no more
The rain has stopped pouring down outside
And I find myself wishing that it would start
Because instead it’s raining in my heart
I’m hoping we could fix this mess
I’m just not cut out for loneliness

I take a look at a photograph of you and me
Hoping it will invoke some sort of memory
But it only seems to leave me with the same old regret
I wish the shadow on the wall was your silhouette
It’s just the dimming of the light before it flickers out on me
Just another empty metaphor that makes me feel lonely

They say with a break-up that you only remember the good
So I close my eyes and try to focus on the bad
But the truth becomes clear to me
You’re the best I ever had

I pushed you away, that’s what I always do
I was just too afraid to get close to you
I was too afraid to get so close to you
I protect my heart, they say it’s what I do best
But I always seem to end up with this loneliness
It’s clear to me and I wish you could have saved me
I wish you could have saved me

This night is dark and I’m feeling so alone
This night is dark, I’m wishing you’d come running home
This life is cold and lonely to me, I’m wishing you’d come running home
And wrap your arms around me

I’m wishing you would, come running through the door
Throw your arms around me, baby never let me go
This night is dark and I’ve been feeling all alone
I wish you would, make your way back home to me
I promise now to let you in my heart
I’ll treat you so much differently

I’ll love you for what you are
And I’ll never let you go
I need you more now
More than you’ll ever know
So please come back to me
I realize what I lost
And I’ve paid the cost
because

This night is dark and I’m feeling so alone
This night is dark, I’m wishing you’d come running home
This life is cold and lonely to me, I’m wishing you’d come running home
And wrap your arms around me

I’m wishing you would, come running through the door
Throw your arms around me, baby never let me go
This night is dark and I’ve been feeling all alone
I wish you would, make your way back home to me
I promise now to let you in my heart
I’ll treat you so much differently

Ryan: Outstanding! It's no secret ive been loving my country music of late and you have just fueled my reasons why! Nobody makes a sad song better than a country artist, and that appears to be the case here again. It seems like you went through something pretty tough with your family, but it's awesome that you've been able to channel those feelings into a really great song.
