Angie Martinez: My guest today is the hottest chick in the game right now. She has sold 90 million records Worldwide in six years of being in the business. Her latest studio album ‘Reveal has sold six million copies Worldwide. We love her here at The Angie Martinez Show, even though she hasn’t been on here in a while! She has a new album, Reveal, Revealing, Revealed available now. She is a New York City Native! And recently the Brooklyn had to come out of her, and she is here to talk about that as well. New York City, please give it up for our girl, your girl, Tisha Jackson!!!
*Tisha is dressed very laid back. Her hair is hanging down. She has on an pink Adidas track suit which consist of, pink daisy dukes shorts, a white and pink Adidas shirt, with a pink and white stripped Adidas jacket.*
Tisha: *Tisha smiles* What’s up Angie and Hot 97?! *She deepens her voice* What’s up NYC?! Brooklyn stand up!
Angie Martinez: Hey Tisha! I know I saw you at a event party a couple of weeks ago but how have you been? It’s been about two years since you been on the show! What’s up?
Tisha: Yes!!! It’s been a while since I’ve been on here. But you know I’ve missed coming here. So I told my manager, *pauses*, I said I have to come see Angie first when I hot New York City. You are my first stop, so I am glad to be here. It feels like home.
Angie Martinez: How does it feel coming home to New York and getting the response that you do? It’s almost like when Jay-Z comes to town when you come here.
Tisha: There really is no greater feeling. You know, when I first began my journey in the industry, I said I know I will never forget New York, I will never forget Brooklyn. I just hoped that they wouldn’t forget me, and they haven’t. It feels great to come home and people are like, “Oh my gosh, Tisha Jackson is back in town”. “Oh my gosh, Tisha Jackson is home.” It feels comforting and loving. And I love my city, and I am glad that we have people like myself and Jay to represent for us.
Angie Martinez: So Reveal, Revealing, Revealed hit shelves yesterday. How does it feel to be continuing the “Reveal Era”?
Tisha: It feels like a blessing. I feel truly blessed that I can still be releasing music from a project that came out a year ago and the fans still want it! I don’t think the fans were ready for me to set out on a new album, or begin a new era so soon, and I wasn’t either. So I came up with the idea to record some new material and repackage the album, and here we have the re-release, Reveal, Revealing, Revealed.
Angie Martinez: Yeah, it’s kind of refreshing to see you continue the journey with your last album to start a new one actually. Because you don’t know how often I see one artist the beginning of the year promoting a new project and by the end of the year they are working or have a new one out already. So it’s refreshing to see you have a successful album and still promote it.
Tisha: Yeah, I thank you for that Angie because, like what you just said. I’ve seen that happen so many times, and I have done it myself before you know. Now by no means am I saying that it’s wrong to be frequent with your music, but it’s good to see you exhaust everything that you can with one project. Look at Whitney when she did “The Bodyguard Soundtrack” that album was so big it took her from 1992 to 1995 you know. She exhausted everything from that album, released hit single after hit, toured, everything. And I feel that ‘Reveal’ was such a special album for myself and my fans that I should continue the journey.
Angie Martinez: So were gonna jump gears really quick and come back to the album, but you recently performed on Star Factory this past Monday. *Angie has a smirk on her face*. How was that?
Tisha: *Burst into laughter* Yeah we did the Star Factory Finale and it was fun. I performed two of my new songs of the album and my fans were excited and so was I. I was there not only to perform but in support of the two finalist, Aubrey Mikkel and Casey Johnson as well.
Angie Martinez: We all saw the performance, you rocked it! But what a lot of us didn’t see and heard that you got into a little scuffle with Stephanie Fierce. The streets are talking, what happened?! *Angie says with New York accent*
Tisha: Ummm, you know you have to be really careful with who you pick fights with, you just never know who you’re really dealing with. And that’s what I want people to know when they come at me or anybody, period. I think people have me mistaken with what they see on television. They see the girl who conducts herself properly doing interviews, they see the girl who talks about female empowerment, and I get that’s people perception of who “Tisha Jackson” is. But then there is who I really am, when I’m not on tv, when I am behind closed doors and chilling with my family and friends. They forget where I’m from, and if I have to revert back I can and I will. *Tisha says in a very high tone of voice and laughs*
*Angie laughs*
Angie Martinez: So was it an actual fight that went down?
Tisha: Yes, there was a fight.
Angie Martinez: Okay, if you can, can you tell us the story. From the moment it started to when you guys were actually throwing hands.
Tisha: You know it was all so unexpected and it happened so fast. It’s like she jumped out the window, it kind of took me by surprise. So I finished my performance at Star Factory. I had an amazing performance, we had Shantel Stiletto perform with us it was great. So I go back stage to my dressing room after the performance to change into my dress, because I’d plan on sitting down and watching the performances by the finalist. So, I change and everything, and I get escorted to me seat by my manager, my bodyguards, and the security at the event. Shantel comes to her seat which is close by me, and I see her head turn and she’s staring at some girl. So I turn my head and I see this bitch walking down the aisle.
Angie Martinez: Is this Stephanie Fierce?
Tisha: Yes.
Angie Martinez: Okay you see her walking down the aisle, then what…
Tisha: I can’t remember exactly but I hear Shantel say to her something to the effect of, I hope you aren’t mad with me because I performed with Tisha. I am a couple of feet away, so they exchange words and Shantel goes back to her seat and I whisper in her air, “Bitch she bet not be mad with you”. Me and Shantel laugh, “She’s like ya’ll both my girls, squash the beef.” You know me, I’m like whatever, why is she hear anyways, like bitch you aren’t performing today, you have nothing to do with this part of the finale, why are you hear? So I decided to be nice and walk up to her to say hi and leave the past in the past. So I say hello and ask her how is she doing? *Tisha tilts her head back and frowns her face* And she says “Don’t touch me”. And I’m like…
Angie Martinez: Oooooh you lying girl. She said that?
Tisha: Yes girl. So I look to my left and I didn’t see anyone there, I look to my right, didn’t see anyone, I turn around no one. I said, “Is this bitch talking to me?” So at that point I said whatever, you can’t be nice to everyone so I slapped her upside her head.
*Angie laughs hysterically*
*Tisha continues* and she tried to get buck. So she comes and attacks me while I am walking back to my seat and she grabs me so I am grabbing her we are going back and forth in the aisle. Finally her people grab her, my people grab me. I was taken backstage with my body guards so found away to get by them and I catch her about to exit the building and I tackle her ass and get her on the ground, she gets up and I punch her in the face and falls to the ground and I threw my heel at her. And after that her people shield her and I was escorted out. But there are always two sides to a story.
Angie Martinez: Wow, so are there lawyers involved?
Tisha: No. If there were lawyers involved I wouldn’t be able to talk to you about it. Angie Martinez: Why do you think you two can’t get along?
Tisha: Honestly, I don’t know. And I don’t care anymore. You know I do think there is something about me that that bothers her. That’s your problem, I think it’s something deep rooted within you, something is bothering you inside. That’s your insecurity bothering you. It’s not Tisha Jackson. I am cool.
Angie Martinez: *Angie laughs* Oh God, now switching gears.
Tisha: *Eyes get big* Yes please.
Angie Martinez: The streets have also been talking about you and a certain R&B singer, Dominic Brown? Are you two a couple?
Tisha: Honestly, I wouldn’t mind dating Dominic. He’s all I want in a guy, he’s generous, loving, caring, has good teeth, and is sexy as hell. But we aren’t a couple no. I am single as of now. But we love Dominic, Domo as I call him.
Angie Martinez: So you have the new record out Reveal, Revealing, Revealed. And you have the new material, seven brand new tracks. But people want to still know, when is the next studio album.
Tisha: Hopefully sometime next year. I don’t want to put a date on it because I’m happy where I’m at musically right now. I don’t feel the rush to put out another album right now. I am enjoying having Reveal, Revealing, Revealed in stores. You know, I’ve been working nonstop for six years straight and after we finish the “Reveal Era” I want to take a break. I sat down the other day and I realized with I’ve travelled the world but I’ve never seen it. With my last tour we went to Africa, Europe, South America. But I’ve never been on vacation and travelled the world to see it for myself, so I am going to do that. I will never stop music, I love writing and singing, and entertaining as a whole, but it’s time for me to see things for myself.
Angie Martinez: Well put, So what is the next single(s) off Reveal, Revealing, Revealed?
Tisha: The next official single is “Fiercest One In Town”, we sent that to radio and it’s available for digital downloading. The fans want a video to that so I am going to try and push for that. And after “Fiercest One In Town” we are going to release, “Wild Thing” and shoot a video for that.
Angie Martinez: Well, we are so proud of you. And glad to have you back. Don’t go so long next time.
Tisha: I love you guys! Thanks for everything, and I’ll be back soon. |
