Basically. I urge anybody with a penchant for technicality (and intestinal fortitude) to give The Dillinger Escape Plan a listen. I like hardcore, I like metal, but so much of the stuff that falls in the middle is just awful. 80s crossover was pretty great, but 00s metalcore is just the pits. God, I still remember first time hearing Killswitch Engage after hearing they were a well respected band, what the fuck was that shit? Apparently Botch & DEP are metalcore groups but I don't know about that, they don't really sound like what passes for metalcore, it's like comparing late 80s "emotional hardcore" aka emo like Rites of Spring to what gets labelled emo now, basically pop punk.
Eh. Most melodic death metal was boring enough without adding unbearable whiny clean vocals over the chorus. |
