Suburban Sunrise
Live
@
SOMA, San Diego
August 4th 2012As the camera pans over a sold out crowd in San Diego California, we see the anticipated faces of 2,400 kids waiting to see the return of their favorite band Suburban Sunrise. As the camera is panning over the crowd it switches to a shot of the band sitting back stage waiting to go on
Stage Manager: Two minutes guys and then you're on
The band all stands up from the green room and begins to make their way over to the entrance of main concert hall at the venue. The camera then pans back to a shot of the stage with the audience in front. The lights go down and the entire crowd begins to cheer. As the crowd cheers classical music begins to play over the PA system. As the music plays Kaolin walk out and sits at his drum set. As he walks across the back side of the stage the crowd cheers out of anticipation. As the music continues to play it is interupted by a loud record scratch. As the music stops everything goes silent and the lights go black. As the lights are off the rest of the band walks onto the stage and the crowd goes crazy. As the band stands on the stage Kaolin hits the hi-hat three times and the band begins playing
"Torn, Filthy, Love." When the opening guitar hits the lights flash on revealing the band on the stage. The crowd cheer and push forward to get closer to the band.
Matt: San Diego! Make some noise!
Crowd Cheers!Matt: Lets have some fun!
As the band plays the entire crowd jumps and small mosh pit opens in the middle of the crowd. In the middle of the song the entire band stops playing and lets the crowd yell out the lyrics:
crowd:
I wont take this from you
I want your love
But you crushed me to the groundAs the crowd finishes singing the band comes back in heavily and finishes the song. As the band finishes the song the crowd cheers out of excitement. As soon as the song is over the band goes straight into a newer song from their last album called
"When All Else Fails." Being one of the bands heavier songs the crowd opens up a massive pit in the middle of the crowd. As the band plays Matt drops down onto the barricade in the front of the crowd and causes a swarm of people coming around him trying to grab onto him
Matt then jumps back onto the stage and the band finishes the song
Dan: San Diego! How are you guys feeling tonight?
The crowd cheersMatt: We are Suburban Sunrise from right here in San Diego. How many of you guys are in the mood to dance tonight?
A loud cheer erupts from the crowdMatt: Thats what I like to hear! For this next song I don't want to see anyone standing around! Its a song off our last album. This song is called
"2 Birds, 1 Stone." Lets have some fun!
The electronic synth intro begins playing over the PA system and the crowd cheers. As the synth ends the drums come in and the band begins playing the song. As the moves it's way into the chorus the entire crowd begins jumping and singing along. As the song comes to an end the band goes straight into the old single
"Cancer Song." As the slow guitar intro plays Matt talks to the crowd
Matt: This is an old song. This one is called
"Cancer Song", and it goes out to anyone whose lost someone recently or is hurting inside. Lets sway back and forth for this one
Matt puts his left hand in the air and sway's it slowly from left to right. The crowd follow's him.
Matt: Can you guys sing this for me?
Crowd:Please wake me up from this nightmare
I'm lost on where to go
I'd do anything to tell you
That I'm sorry for all we've been throughMatt: You guys sound beautiful
Matt then takes over singing the song. As the chorus comes in Matt puts his hand back up in the air and gets the crowd to sway once again. As the song reaches the bridge and gets faster the crowd responds with a loud yell. When the song comes to an end Kaolin begins hitting the snare repeatedly keeping a fast tempo. As he hits the snare Dan begins playing the four chord intro to
"Song For The Lovers."When the crowd realizes the song they all cheer and begin to sing along with Matt. As the song hits the chorus Dan and Nick jump down to the barricade and continue playing the song. When the song comes to an end the crowd cheers and the lights go black. As the crowd stands and stairs at a blacked out stage a violin begins playing a sad tone. While the violin plays Dan speaks over it
Dan: This next song is about getting fucked over by someone you thought you loved. I want to see a giant circle pit in the middle of this beautiful crowd. You guys think you can do that?
The crowd cheers as a group of guys opens up a circle pit in the middle of the crowd
Dan: Good. This song is called
"Take Your Own Love."As soon as Dan finishes talking Matt sings the opening lines to the song and the rest of the band comes in. During the song a circle pit is going around the sound box in the middle of the crowd.
Matt: Sing it you crazy mother fuckers!
Matt points the mic out to the crowd and lets them sing the line before the chorus
crowd: I wont be controlledThe band finishes the song and the crowd cheers. As the song ends they then play another old song called
"Which Way Is Up?" After the conclusion of that song the band takes a second to recuperate and get a drink of water
Matt: Hey guys. You still having fun?
The crowd lets out a loud screamMatt: Awesome. Well like I said earlier we are Suburban Sunrise from here in San Diego, California, and well. I guess we're back!
Crowd screamsMatt: We just wanted to take a second here in the middle of our set to thank you guys for everything. If it weren't for you guys we wouldn't be able to be up here on this stage in front of a sold out crowd.
crowd cheering And we would also like to thank the people at Hot Eye Records for picking us up. Literally everyone's support means the world to us and without you guys we would be absolutely nowhere so thank you guys again
The crowd then begins cheering loudlyNick: Do you guys mind if we play an old one?
Loud screamingNick:This is a really old song from our debut full length album. Its my favorite song to play live and I want to see the biggest fucking pit that this venue has ever had. This is a harder song, its called
"Doesn't Mean Its Legal."The song starts with a heavy intro and the crowd gets pushed open. As the band plays the song the crowd continues to mosh through the whole song. As the song ends the band then plays
"The Leaving Scene",
"Song In The Dark" and
2012. As the songs come to and end the crowd cheers. The band then exits the stage leaving only Matt. A roadie comes out from the side of the stage and hands him an acoustic guitar
Matt: So I'm going to give the guys a break and slow it down for a little bit. Is that ok with everyone?
The crowd cheersMatt: Alright cool. So we've got a few more songs left for you guys and well, this next song originally is pretty, I guess you would say rockish. But I thought it would be cool to slow it down and play it acoustically to show a new side of it. Anyone know the song
"Torn!" From our album "Torn, Filthy, Love?"
The whole crowd cheersMatt: Alright awesome! So on the last chorus I'm going to stop singing and I'm going to have you all scream the worlds at the top of your lungs and its going to sound amazing. Feel free to pull out the lighters and cell phone's. This song is called
"Torn!"The crowd cheersAs the crowd cheers Matt plays the opening chords and beings to sing the song. Throughout the song the crowd sways back and forth with their cellphones out and sing at the top of their lungs
Matt: Alright its your turn! Sing it! At the top of your lungs!
crowd:I'm torn every day
Where did our memories go?
I just miss you and cant take this pain
I'll dig the razor into my skin
Until you come back homeMatt then strums the last chord of the song and the crowd cheers
Matt: You guys sound beautiful! Thank you for helping me out. Well I think its time to bring the guys back out and speed things up a bit
The rest of the band walks back onto the stage and re-joins Matt
Dan: Give it up for Matt Urie ladies and gentlemen!
The crowd cheersDan: On bass and drums we have Kaolin and Nick!
CheeringMatt: Don't forget my best friend in the whole wide world, give it up for Dan Richards on guitar!
Crowd roarsNick: Kaolin how you doing back there man
Kaolin: Hey! I have to use a drum mic to talk because I'm not cool enough to have a real one
Dan: Kaolin introduce this song
Kaolin: This song is an older one, you guys I'm sure know it. Its called
"Lines"The crowd cheersNick begins playing the opening bass line and the rest of the instruments kick in. Being more of a jumpy song the whole crowd jumps to the beat as Matt sings
Matt:I'm walking in a straight line
Will you ever even be mine?
I'm walking in a straight line
Tell me when I can break away from the crowdWhen the song comes to an end the full band leaves the stage and the lights turn off. The whole room is blacked out and the crowd begins to cheer for one more song. After about two minutes of cheering a chime begins to play over the PA system and the crowd cheers. The chime is the same style from the bands new single
"Mark My Words." When the band re-enters the stage the chime goes into the beginning intro of the song and the crowd cheers
Dan: This is our new song called
"Mark My Words." No one stand around!
The band plays the song and the crowd sings and dances along with the band
Matt/CrowdThere is nothing left to me
And nothing left for me to lose
I've felt humiliationCrowd onlyAll because of youCrowd/MattTrust me I'll come and get you
Mark my wordsWhen the song comes to a close the crowd cheers
Nick: Glad to know people like the new song haha
Matt: Alright San Diego, we have one more song for you guys tonight. We wanted to leave you guys with a little song we like to call
"Vulture."The entire crowd screams the loudest they have all nightWhen the band goes into the song everyone in the crowd screams and begins dancing and going crazy. Throughout the song many people start crowd surfing and try to get on to the stage. At the end of the song Matt goes down the barricade and jumps into the crowd. When he jumps in the crowd screams and pushes him left and right. Security then grabs him and puts him back onto the stage
