From The Twisted Minds of Johnny McDougal and Erich Hess

Unwashed and Well Read! A rockabilly punk rock blues explosion!

The Band:

Johnny McDougal- Lead Guitar/Vocals/Miscreant

Erich Hess- Rhythm Guitar/Vocals/Casual Drunk

Roxy Tate- Bass/Lead Guitar 2 (on occasion))/The Pretty One

Clyde Bonner- Drums/Vocals/Hitting Things/That One Guy

Description (From Johnny's Lips):

It all happened in New Orleans from what I can remember. I got stoned obliterated drunk and was pretty sure I saw Buddy Holly in my drunken hallucination. But it gave me the idea to start a rockabilly band with Erich Hess. So I turned to him and said, "Let's start a band." Something to that effect I'm sure was slurred out. He replied, "Damn right...." and that was really about it. The member selection process was an easy one. Though I barely know Roxy. I'd only received her number later on that morning when I found it in my pocket. By all accounts from Erich I was quite taken with her and the feeling must've been mutual. So I gave her a call when I was good and sober. Which was a better judgment call on my part I'm sure. We talked for about an hour before I brought up the subject. She was on as soon as the word "band" left my mouth. I've known Clyde all my life so he was just the natural pick. He's in Nobody's Darlings with me and so it kinda goes without saying. But that's how we came to be. A drunken night in New Orleans was the catalyst of it all.

Erich: the best things in life come from drunken outings. This is day one stuff. Chances are,no matter what the invention, a drunk was involved. Tesla came up with alternating current because he was tired of drinking warm beer or battery operated refrigerators. Fucking Edison and his smug direct currents....

Johnny Interviews Roxy

Johnny: Seeing as I know little about you and kinda did this because I got a wild hair up my ass. I'm gonna sit down and ask you some questions. Care for some whiskey? Home made.

Roxy: That I do. Thanks.

Johnny: You're my kind of girl all ready. Where you from anyway?

Roxy: Originally the Memphis area. I relocated to New Orleans because I loved the scenery there a little more. I like the grave yards and the old buildings. It intrigues the shit out of me.

Johnny: Good answer. Both places are pretty damn nice to grow up in. So you're a southern girl by blood?

Roxy: Down to my bootlegging ancestors.

Johnny: So I caught you playing in New Orleans. What the hell was the name of your band again? I was too drunk to remember.

Roxy: The Black Brides. Before that I was in a band called The Coffin Nails. Then before that it was Dolly Dagger and The Murder Dolls. I was Dolly and we were an all girl Misfits cover band. Though I classify myself as sort of "garage-goth rock."

Johnny: That's pretty much why I picked you for the band. You're a perfect fit dear. That and I find you damn attractive.

Roxy: Every band needs a decent set of tits and ass to stare at. But I can play and got a set of pipes to back go with the package. Not so bad yourself mister.

Johnny: So who are your favorite bands or musicians? Just to make sure we'll still in good standing.

Roxy: The Misfits, The Dead Kennedys, Link Wray, Buddy Holly, Patsy Cline, Rancid, The Pine Box Boys, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Hank Williams Sr., Bessie Smith, Etta James, Billie Holiday, Judy Garland, Wanda Jackson and a whole lot more.

Johnny: Damn straight. I like you more and more. Well thanks for sitting your fine looking self down with me and having this drink. While answering these questions.

Roxy: No problem sugar.

OOC Note: I'll play her for. But she is open for the taking for anybody that wants her. I'd love someone to play her.

Roxy's Thoughts

"I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I've made life changing decisions because of an attractive guy. My momma, bless her soul, used to always tell me never to make life decisions with moist panties and a fifth of Tequila. Guess I let her down. There I am in New Orleans, playing in some bar in the French Quarter with my band, The Black Brides, when I meet these guys. They were both pretty cute, but one of them especially caught my interest. Of course, we were all pretty drunk off our asses, and so I didn't think twice about giving him my phone number. Really, giving drunk guys your phone number hardly ever goes anywhere except for maybe a couple hook ups. Anyway, I wasn't expecting a call any time soon, but then I get this fucking unknown number showing up on my phone. And then there he is. Drunk guy from the night before. Johnny started talking about... I don't fucking remember, I was self-medicating a hangover at the time. But when I starting listening again, he was talking about some band he wanted to start up. The Black Brides were sucking ass, and I hated those bitches anyway, so I said yeah. Never knew how serious he was until now."

Erich: I couldn't read anymore after "Wanda Jackson". I was too busy happy dancing around. Miss roxy seems like the perfect match to this project. Any one that can put up with, and be intrigued ,by The two man rat pack of Johnny and I....well,lets just say they are good people. And she's a southern belle as well? Shit yeah. We are going to skin daughters and impregnate cows.

Johnny: I can't say enough about the work that's been put in for this. Sun was a dream come true. The acoustic cuts we recorded as a b-side companion for the album at the Sea Saint Studios in New Orleans were completely gorgeous. I've been enjoying this album more than I should. We all got a little more shine in our steps from this. There was instant chemistry from the get go and Roxy proved she was more than prepared to fit her spot. That and she just looks good doing it. I think I found somebody just as crazy as I am. But way more prettier. Roxy is a looker. My eyes have been wandering a bit when we've been recording.

Johnny: It's hard to solo when you got a damn near perfect ass hovering in your peripheral. Let me tell you. But yeah.... I think this is going to turn some heads and maybe make a few explode. Which I would prefer really. Clyde's been a wizard behind the skins too. We had to soldier through some broken drum sticks and he didn't bitch one bit. That's why I like having him behind me. The guy's a fucking trooper.

OOC: After a brief hiatus to defrag my brain and start on a self-publishing project to get a small collection of my poetry into book form I have returned. Anyway good to be back. Beers all around. Roses for the ladies. Let me see if I can't swing a good punch at this at around 1:30 in the morning.

Unwashed and Well Read

Track 1. Rockabilly Roll

Description: Your basic snare-kick drum beat with a Bo Diddely guitar stomp rhythm. Lots of distortion and reverb to fill out that right kind of noise that Johnny likes to come through the amp. Roxy keeps a nice steady two chord rhythm which has some solo fills between the choruses. Very straight forward with a lot of overdrive and distortion especially in the solo work which is some simple pentatonic work. The only fancy flashes contain a few string bends, vibratto, and some whammy bar strikes. Technicality has been left out for this one in exchange for a straight forward, in your face, knock your teeth out rockabilly tune.

Lyrics:

Verse 1:

Let me tell you about a girl I know.
She's got sass straight down from head to toe.
Purses her lips and shakes her hips with a whole lotta soul.
She has all the fellas watchin' her do the rockabilly roll!

Chorus:
The Rockabilly Roll!
She does the rockabilly roll!
That little girl does the rockabilly roll!
The Rockabilly Roll!

Verse 2:

She's the cutest thing I ever did see.
I'm gonna take her home with me.
She's got my heart on fire like burnin' coal!
We're gonna spend all night doing the rockabilly roll!

Chorus:

The Rockabilly Roll!
We're doing the rockabilly roll!
Yeah we're doing the rockabilly roll!
The Rockabilly Roll!
Roll with me baby!

Johnny's Thoughts:

Sometimes being fancy or technical just isn't needed. Like a shot of good whiskey some songs should be served straight at you without any flair. I wanted to keep that thought in mind for the first song of this album and save the more technical stuff for when I thought it was necessary. But for the most part this is pretty much the tone of the album. You may see some fancy flashes here and there. However most of this album is going to be pretty straight forward and in your face. No reason to pull punches on this one. Rockabilly, Blues, and Punk are thrown into the kettle which pretty much means it's a big noisy stew. Simple and to the point. The fancy stuff is going to be kept at a minimum. Consider it just the right amount of spice for the recipe. Everybody was tight on this tune in general. So it was a given from the start that the album would remain so. I was especially in love with Erich's command of the rhythm and guitar beat for the song. You don't need to make a guitar cry or sing to know how to handle it. Good rhythm is very key for me.
