 The air is electric at Amoeba Music in Hollywood as the_elegy are set to give their first performance overseas ever - the place is nicely packed with shoppers, people interested in checking out the new Japanese import, and a small group of intense fans. The fans (mostly women) are dressed head to toe in anime and hello kitty accessories and are busy arguing about who out of the band is the most kawaii. "Are you excited to see them?" the MC asks the fangirls. "Yes! Kazuo - you're so kawaii!" one shouts, and another looks at her like she's crazy. "Ryuhei is the most kawaii!" he says, and they start pushing each other. They're broken up and the MC takes the stage. "Alright, everyone. This next band up is from Japan and we're pleased to say they're making this their first live concert apperance overseas!" he says, to applause from the audience. "So please, give it up for THE ELEGY!" he says, and the stage goes dark. Suddenly, the opening guitar chords to "Haru no Uta" are played, and the fangirls lose it at the sound of one of the_elegy's most melodic songs. As the rest of the instruments are about the come in, there's a loud bang and a squeal of distortion as the lights come on, illuminating the entire band minus Kazuo. Shogo beats on his drums as Shuya and Jirou start playing a jagged, grating riff with tons of overdrive and feedback. The drumming turns into machine-gun speed blast beats as the new song starts. Kazuo finally runs onstage, covered in ripped clothing and slathered in fake blood. He grabs the mic,  It's showtime!he screams, and starts running around the stage, trying to whip the crowd into a frenzy. The guys in the crowd start to get into it, starting a tiny little mosh pit as Kazuo starts screaming the lyrics, his voice gritty and hoarse (ooc: lyrics in italics = japanese, lyrics in bold = english) still remains that laugh up at me
while i laugh down at them
you can't fuck with me anymore
just go ahead and try it, stupidthe main intro riff comes back and Kazuo throws the mic stand into the crowd and thrashes around, swinging his arms wildly and screaming the second verse, you scream as i rip, rip, rip
as your blood starts to drip
don't even ask for mercy
i'm beyond that nowafter the second verse is finished, the drumming takes over for a bit as Shuya and Jirou try and wrile the crowd up, giving them the finger and throwing their water bottles at them. The chorus kicks in, a primal, screaming, anthemic chant: sanejust like any motherfuckersane just like any motherfuckersanejust like any motherfuckersane just like any motherfuckerthe music drops away, once again leaving only the drumming, as Kazuo throws the mic down onto the ground and crouches, his face almost touching the floor close to the mic. He starts to whisper, his voice cracking, quiet the voiceslow, low, low, lowbe quiet please, be quiet please
be quiet please, be quiet pleasethe guitars come back and the speed of the drums increase, the chorus coming back with Kazuo screaming intensely. sanejust like any motherfuckersane just like any motherfuckersanejust like any motherfuckersane just like any motherfuckerthe song degenerates into chaos as the guitar riff and drums get faster as Kazuo starts screaming the lyrics like crazy sanebust me outsanebust me outsanebust me outsanebust me outsanebust me outsane bust me outsane bust me outsane bust me outthe song eventually ends up just being noise as the band beat on their instruments and Kazuo screams nonsense into the mic. "Goodnight!" he yells, and throws the mic against the wall with a crack, as the band walk offstage. The fangirls in the front row look like they're going to cry. |
