Welcome to Roleplay! Here are some tips to get you started:

1. Look at how other people roleplay and get ideas, this is the most recommended of all roleplay tips.

2. Don't go overboard. Start with one band/artist. Even if you have a few accounts ingame, creating a ton of personalities is not easy. Don't start labels, festivals, etc. until you know what you're doing, this is very much frowned upon.

3. Don't start too many threads, this might as well be spam. If you have a lot to say, make a website thread and post on it. Again, look at other website threads - the sticky at the top is a good place to start, look through other band sites to get ideas.

4. Invent personalities. Just think of one or two lines in your head which describe your artist. This helps a lot.
eg. Lunatica -
Kamikaze Kate [vocals/guitar] : egotistical to extremes, can be very annoying, but has her loveable moments.
Mayhem [bass] : the real sweetie of the band, usually an absolutely lovely lady - just don't insult her MADNESS!
Nick [drums] : tiny and pretty but don't be fooled, she's a black-belt ninja, my most musically talented character.

5. Interact! "The Dirty Bastard" is a good place to start, go and have a drink, meet other musicians. Another good place for beginners is TRSG RP chat. Or, if you see a single or album somewhere that your band might like the sound of, say so, and the band/artist will nearly always thank you - they often return the favour, may even ask for a collaboration.

6. Use good grammar and spelling. The occasional slip-up is fine, but full-on "txtspk" is unacceptable.

7. It is assumed that in Roleplay, a real life day = a roleplay day. This means that you can organise events and tours for certain dates. Much less confusing!

8. Do not mix Roleplay and Off Topic! This can become very confusing. Remember, you’re talking as you would if you were one of your characters – They wouldn’t talk about their lives as if it were a game. If you want to mention something out of character in your posts, use OOC and IC (see dictionary below).

9. Remember that, whilst you're in the Roleplay section, ALL forum rules still apply here – arguments are easily started in this section, so treat other players in a manner you would like to be treated yourself.

10. Godmoding is not allowed (see RP Dictionary)

11. Roleplay record labels are there to help you and your band(s). They generally have their own in-game friend groups for you to join. All of them offer different services, and it is up to you to make your band one that attracts them. Labels are not essential, but are recommended to the newer players who may need a helping hand.

A short Roleplay Dictionary –
"OOC" means Out Of Character, as in, people are speaking as themselves rather than their artists.
"IC", used less often, means In Character, usually only used if IC and OOC are in the same post. You do not have to put IC at the start of all the posts you are making in character.
"RP", easy enough - Roleplay.
“Birdies (International Music Awards/IMAs)” – A regular award show (every 2-3 months) in the Roleplay section, here you can win a Birdies award in certain categories. They are currently run by Bikz. In Roleplay, these are seen as significant recognition of your efforts
"Godmoding" - Posting something that in some way affects another player's character without their permission.
"The Hot Topic Awards" - Similar to the Birdies, but with different categories and run by Stephaniewazhere
