Hot Topic: 4U 'Domination' begins to dominate with Album Cover, Lead Single! Girls Talk to Us About Album!
Hot Topic sat down with pop's baddest girls about their new album 'Domination' rumored to be released in May, with no release date announced, 4U Girls has finally revealed and finished with the visually direction of their album with the artwork. Recently, 4U Girls has released ' Slower' which was an edgy R&B ballad mixed with hip-hop, produced by the talented Dallas Austin.
Laci: It's such an blessing working with such talented producers who really let us shine musically on the album and even singles, the mixtape really let the fans hear the vision we had.
Danielle: Dallas Austin is the man! we had to work with him. I think it's dope to see that vibe with, he connected with us so well in the studio that the song came out easily and it made us push harder because he understood what we were building as an group.
Aubrei: It was so cool and very comfortable to see that the music we always wanted to make, it's coming true...
Bianca: All I got to say is, this isn't no fucking joke. It's only the best..
' Urban Knockouts' debuted at number two both digitally and radio on the charts, one of the highest singles of the year. The uptempo that was produced by Jermaine Dupree is still in the top ten on the airplay charts.
Bianca: *flips hair* I aint tryin' bang yo, but Jermaine did us thang on this album, we just had to invite him back. He made the mixtape dope, I mean, every arrangement and production was flawless. We had to bring him back, he was that guy that understood the most, he liked and loved what we were doing as an group.. so we wanted that producer to believe in us as well..
The era of 'Domination' includes some art fulled artworks that is similar to Graffiti and unique boyish looking artworks and very flashy pictures.
Danielle: We wanted that whole visual side of the album to include the artwork, 'Urban Knockouts' and 'Slower' didnt show our faces, it showed the art side of the project because we wanted to present art in this album. This is what this album is... art and that's the reasoning behind the boyish artwork and we love and adore graffiti, only because the art is free and bold, just like our music and sound.
Eariler this year, the girls released two promising singles, 'Girls Like Us' and 'Without You Boys' that was confirmed will not be on the album, many fans are confused by the single valve that was set up for the girls, the girls released the total of five singles without any lead single for the album yet. Their manager also spoke with Hot Topic about it.
Manager: Look, some many people come in the industry and just release an single, album.. etc. This sound for these girls believe or not is very risky.. because it's never been heard or done, so when you have that challenge, you test the world and you test the ears, we wanted to know if what 'Domination' stood for musically, lyrically and production wise was the right sound wise to come to capture and sell... the industry is all about testing, all about testing that music with the public, to see if they want more or less. I played with a lot of minds because I want to keep people wanting more by only giving less... but the girls push theirselves every single because the simple fact of even if the promotional single didn't do well, the album will do great because on how hardworking they worked without any lead single from their debut album...
Hot Topic: Do you think you all did too much in beginning?Bianca: I think we did what other didn't expect for us to do, we didn't want to do the simple way. yes, we can release an boring ass single as the lead, not really confidence about how well or poorly it will do in the charts or even the fans... and then flop and people lookin' at us like what the fuck? You know? I think we wanted to push that on people that this is us and we are ready.
Laci: It was very risky my dear. I was scared when I heard that we were going to release so many promotional singles because we didn't want to start losing the fans, so I was very afraid on such an dramatic apporch to how we were going to set up this whole preparation for the album.
Danielle: It must worked, to have a top ten single.. so * shrugs* I'm not complaining, it got the world taking it seriously and loving the music.
Aubrei: No, it's never to much I feel..
After four total singles in all, the girls revealed the lead single title. Hot Topic came in the interview room to find this hanging up behind the girls in the interview box.
(The new lead single 'Riot' artwork)
Hot Topic: Tell me about this artwork.Danielle: It's very mysterious, yet very bold and aggrestive looking.
Aubrei: When I was working on the artwork, I was really looking at the concept or whatever of the song and I wanted that graffi to really shine with this artwork because back in New York, graffiti is normal but where I was raised and where we were raised, if you did, a riot will begin. Plus, I wanted it very 'red' and like, tough looking. It's very different.
Bianca: You see that the name '4U Girls' is faded into the artwork because this is just the beginning, no one really knows us yet so we are just trying to get noticed. When you want to dominate the world, you have to start a fucking riot to let the world and everyone hear your voice.. you have to spread that around.. it's riot time. I hope you all are ready.
Laci: We wanted the word 'Riot' to go all over the artwork because when this album drops, it will be one, trust me because the music is crazy. I mean it's the best we have worked on and we have worked on many projects.. we also wanted the red in there because the color red signals danger, blood, a lot of negative things. This time 4U's red is danger.. we are coming to destory.
Danielle: YESSSS TO MY GIRLS! Good job babies. Also no one makes this kind of artwork these days, back in the day, artist really showcase the art in their music, we wanted to do that again.
