We haven't heard from Glamazon since the release of her last studio album Ashes to Ashes in August of 2012 which sold 1.5 million across the globe, but thankfully, slowly but surely, another album will soon be upon us from pop's axe-wielding princess. Thankfully, it's not all doom and gloom this time round it seems, as she strikes a pose in front of a pink background on our promotional banner, using a picture from a new shoot of hers. It's a rare occurrence when the lady herself agrees to an interview these days, but luckily, we at 4Music got the chance to chat with the outspoken singer about all things music.

It's been a while since we last heard from you, what have you been up to?
I've just been taking time for myself to really get some inspiration, because I've started recording for my sixth album, and after the last album, it's really made me think about what I want to do next in my music. I've never wanted to be one of those artists who get shoved down your throat every five minutes, so I like hiding away in my gothic mansion in the English countryside every now and then. (smiles)

Were you disappointed with the sales of your last album, Ashes to Ashes?
If anything, I was thrilled with them! It was a personal, emotional album that was never going to click with everyone and become some huge seller. In a way, it's like my best work is my most undiscovered work, well, as undiscovered as one and a half million is. I think I set the bar so high with the album previous to that in terms of sales, that it looked like a major disappointment, but I don't mind, I think the album's commercial performance gives it a sense of mystery. I could die in 20 years, and people will go searching through my discography and stumble across it and hopefully fall in love with it. Even I can't listen to that album, I haven't listened to it since I made it. If there was ever a genre called extreme heartbreak, that album would fall right under it.

Do you hate it when people call you a pop star? You seem to be the most unconventional pop star.
I find it quite funny, imagining a huge gathering of all these pretty, colourful people in pop, then I show up in all black with an axe! (laughs) I definitely don't fit into the pop star stereotype, but I like that. I guess I make more pop music with a twist, but really, I hate genres altogether. You get fucking dance pop, electro pop, synth pop, my fans have called my music dark pop. What next? Psycho bitch pop? Who the fuck invented genres?! Honestly, I've seen actual genres that are considered legit, and they sound like the most ridiculous things in the world.

So, tell us about the new album, what can we expect from it?
I'd say it's half done right now, so there's still a lot more work to do, but hopefully I can put something out soon to help my fans with the wait. It's already been such a long time since the last record, it's wild how time flies, I never realised. It's of course not as upsetting as the last album, there's a nice mixture of bad girl anthems and general dark fuckedupness. There's one song that's just completely psycho, but fun, I adore it. There's another one that I rap on, which I'm really excited for people to hear. I think this new album takes a little from each of my past albums and puts a fresh spin on it all, there's a song for everyone.

Considering you used to be a rapper, why is it that you seem to have focused solely on singing for the past few years?
I think it's solely because I'm a better singer than I am a rapper, I realised what my biggest talent was and decided to focus on that. I'm a big lover of writing songs too, and I think writing a song you'd rap is a lot harder than writing a song you'd sing. Perhaps it's just because I'm so used to the latter now, that I find it a struggle, but I definitely like to challenge myself.

Can we expect a tour with the upcoming record?
God, yes. I did a small show the other week and it made me realise how much I miss performing, I've literally got this huge urge to just tour and tour and tour until I die. (laughs) I've clearly had too much time off, it's made me messed up in the head... well, not that I wasn't already in the first place, but perhaps even more so.

It seems to be a rare occurrence when we get music from you these days as you seem to have longer gaps between records. What and who helps you to stay inspired?
I used to throw music out a lot quicker, but I realised my output was becoming a lot more stronger when I was taking the time to make sure I was putting out the best I could. Huge artists like Stephanie Fierce and Ryan Ross Hernandez have been around for ages, purely because not only have they made sure to put out consistent material, but they've reinvented themselves as their career goes along. So I think if anything, it's made me realise to never be scared of change, and to only put out your very best, because you're only as good as your last album. These days, I'm so OCD with everything that I do that it sets me back, and I'm trying to stop that from happening, I just want everything to be perfect.

Okay, now we've got some quickfire questions sent in from your fans via Twitter. Ready?
Ready.

Would you ever collaborate with Weekend?
I'd praise them as much as I possibly could without getting arrested, but I don't think our styles match at all. Sorry, lover.

Stephanie Fierce or Tisha Jackson?
I adore both, threesome?

Favourite song right now?
I really love that new Bath Salts song, you know, the skater one that's a million times better than that terrible Avril Lavigne one of a similar name? It's like crack.

Person you'd most like to meet?
Pixie, I think she seems wonderful. She seems to be all cutesy and bright and colourful, but she also mixes a bit of other-wordly darkness in there too, her style is just incredible. We've tweeted each other a few times and I think she seems like a really interesting person, so I'd definitely like to meet her and perhaps make a song together.

What do you want the most right now?
I'd tell you, but my mother may be watching. (giggles)

What is it like to be Glamazon?
Incredible, sweetheart. You should come into my body one day, and I mean that in the least rude way possible, because it's quite fun being me. The drinks are always flowing, and when I say drinks, I mean tea because I don't drink alcohol. The clothes are always free, and most importantly, the men are always intimidated.

If you could be a man for a day, what would you do?
I'd probably touch myself. Oh, and I've always wanted to go into a man's restroom, just to see what hell really looks lke. Because obviously women's restrooms are always the cleanest.

Who would be the first person you'd kill if you had the chance?
Whoever the first person was to wear socks with sandals? I don't know, yeah, let's go with that one.

Say the world ends tomorrow, what would you do during your last 24 hours?
Make a bad song, because I wouldn't be able to feel guilty for it!

Glamazon will release her new album in the coming months.

Glamazon: Thank you Serenity, sweetheart. It's been a long time coming, so hopefully I can meet the expectations people have. And no need to fear the axe, Ellie, it's never touched a woman before. ;) Pop icon? Ha!

Max: We are honored to have a shout out from the wonderful Glamazon. Since you gave us a shout out, we thought you'd want to be best friends with us so we've started thinking up ideas for your new album. How does Glamazon - Glamor Zone, sound? Alot of thought put into it! Anyway, i'm glad you got the reference to that Canadian girls' song. Good luck with the new album, from the sounds of things it's going to be badass!

Stephanie Fierce: I am humbled about my career because I've had a lot of success throughout and I've been able to have a family in the eye of the industry and still do what I do and still have a lot of success. It makes people bitter but it is the truth and they will continue to deal, but anyway lol...I'm grateful and I do believe you are the same. I remember when you shocked the industry with your video series and I think everyone can agree that it was cool and unique to do something like that and you did it so well. Your music took you to the next level, because you broke that video chick mold everyone was trying to put you in. Looking forward to what you got coming up, and as always I wish you nothing but success :) Stay cool ;)

Glamazon: You're more then welcome, Max, let's say it's my little gift to you guys for making such good music. But yes, best friends sounds more than fine to me, mainly so you can get me to meet Anna who I have a lesbian crush on... maybe Pitchfork will love me even more now! HA, I'm glad you're a better musician than you are at naming albums, sweetheart. ;)
