Today, we're putting worldwide successful pop group GirlSpice on trial - an all pop girl group formed in July 2007 and now consisting of Nadia Berry, Kimberly Gold, Chantal Hayes and Sophia Stellar. Together, they have released 30 singles, plus featuring on other singles from the likes of Stephanie Fierce and Aftershock. Throughout their career, they have released 8 albums in total; 7 studio albums and 1 greatest hits collection. They've had longevity with their career - but is that the only reason they're considered legends? Are GirlSpice pop's biggest manufactured act or are they a group that we should show respect for?
Ever since GirlSpice launched onto the scene with debut single "Mystery", released on 8th August 2007 on Eventual Records; the girls received much buzz from other artists. However, the girls struggled to find chart success until October of that year with the Aftershock-produced "Endless Tears", released on Midnight/Mythic Records which charted at #13 in the UK, their first ever top 40 entry; the song also written by Aftershock. This is a regular pattern with the group's music, none of their singles released thus far in their career have any writing credits from the girls, all of the singles written with the help of producers and highly-respected writers in the industry. Sources claim that the group will be writing for the first time together for their new album - but is it too late to earn credibility after all of these years?
The girls have always been known for elaborate stage shows, as well as for their dancing skills and soft-whispery vocals that flow well with the music that they make... but is it enough? A performance of theirs at a past Birdies show had one song sung live in their set as the girls sat on stools, whilst the other performance was lip-synched as they danced and then proceeded to climb around on a wall, claiming that what they were doing left them "short of breath", is this the type of ability we should be praising? The girls were also slammed by critics for lip-synching a select few of the songs on past tours; lip-synching and no writing credits leads us to think that these girls really are short of talent.
In their career, they've collaborated with Chops, Birds of Madness, Aerospliff, Thunderwolf, Rebel Uprising, Averex, Aftershock, Gillians, Stephanie Fierce and more; GirlSpice are definitely not shy on taking a risk with their music as they collaborated with some of the biggest metal bands seen in the industry back in the day. Is this their own secret way to try and gain some credibility? By showing that they're "fearless" or "daring" for working with others who make music completely opposite to them? Do they think this somehow dismisses their lack of talent and makes them seem better than what they really are... a few girls in a group who look pretty?
Strutting around scantily clad on stage, faking Nadia Berry's death and pretending that they had split to somehow "avoid paparazzi attention" when that would only bring more adds to another long list of things wrong with this group... they are addicted to fame and rely on controversy. The group's only way of hitting the headlines is by these shocking ways that their music could never do for them, past band-mate Shanessa Roberts even shockingly had sex on stage at a festival with her now ex-boyfriend, causing a large amount of complaints to be received; a tacky and cheap way of receiving attention.
To date, GirlSpice have never had a number one single or album and they have been out years longer than most acts who have been stacking up the hits since their arrival... even with the help of others it couldn't be done. Why? Because their music is just not good and the majority of the public can see that. They have always been solely based around sex and that's probably the only thing they'll ever be seen as - sex objects trying to make music... how long is it till they finally give up?
The group are currently 'writing' a new album (something we never thought we'd see) and the source added to us that they are making "firey club anthems", what a surprise from such a gifted and talented group... not. We're expecting lyrics about dancing on a dance floor, downing shots and having sex, pretty much what every record from GirlSpice is about, yawn.
Have your say. GirlSpice - A manufactured group poisoning the young girls of our youth or timeless pop legends who will forever throw out the catchy tunes? |
