Morgue Party is an American death metal band from Miami, Florida, formed late in 2008. The band name was derived from an underground movie seen by two of the band's founding members, in which a number of the main characters engaged in necrophilia, and referred to the act as a "Morgue Party". In recent times, they band members have taken on ridiculous stage names, which reflect the attitude and style of their music.
The band currently consists of; vocalist Ryan CircusFreak, guitarists Jonny DeathMonkey and Daniel RancidDischarge, bassist Frankie GoreCocker and drummer Andy FistPump.
Formation and Early years (2008 - 2010)The band was formed by two high school friends (CircusFreak and DeathMonkey), when they realised that they were the only two freshmen in their high school who were listening to death metal. "We were just seen as those two long haired freaks in Suffocation shirts," CircusFreak told a magazine recently, "I think some people were actually scared of us, because we were dressed in black , with these tshirts bearing inverted crosses and shit, but I don't think I've ever been genuinely angry in my life if truth be told."
FistPump had been drumming from an early age, and asked CircusFreak to join his new band, who he planned to call Funeral Parlor. The two held auditions in their local town hall, but could find no one who had the same music taste as theirs. However, when CircusFreak's cousin was in town, he informed the aspiring vocalist that he knew of some guys who had just left a band, and were looking for a new direction. "We listened to GoreGag on Myspace", CircusFreak says, "And the music was just awesome. So my cousin called the guys up, and we had a few jams from there!"
In the first few months, Funeral Parlor played various Battle of the Bands contests, usually finishing last in early rounds because they were the only ones not playing covers of "American Idiot" or anything by Fall Out Boy. They played mainly faster versions of songs by bands such as Misery Index, Death, Enslaved and Quo Vadis, and often found themselves booed off the stage by unappreciative audiences.
In early 2009, CircusFreak and FistPump visited a friend's house, where they saw an underground movie called "Morbid", in which various characters took part in necrophillic acts. The term "Morgue Party" was coined therein, and the band's name changed the very next day.
For the remainder of 2009 and the entirety of 2010, the band procured gigs in various nightclubs across Florida, as they set out to stamp their authority on the death metal scene. They received critical acclaim from underground sources, and have an avid internet following. Most people comment that the lyrics and song titles are hilarious.
Bursting onto the scene (2011 - Present)In early 2011, bassist GoreCocker won a considerable yet undisclosed amount of cash on a lotto scratch card. The band immediately used this to their advantage, buying new equipment and instruments, before creating a website, and commissioning an artist to create them a logo. They also had a manager hired, and bought themselves a hefty amount of PR.
In April 2011, Morgue Party entered the studio, in Florida, to record their debut single, which will go on sale later in the month. They are then expected to go on a short tour before returning home to work on their debut album.
Ryan "CircusFreak" - Vocals
CircusFreak was born into a Christian family in Portland, Oregon. He has had to deny in various underground magazines that Morgue party music is anti-christian. He has often said that although he himself is an atheist, he loves his family, and has no intention to rubbish their beliefs or upset them in any way. At the age of 5, his family moved to Miami, Florida, where CircusFreak became a quite excellent football player. For the majority of his formative years, he played tight end, before completely giving the sport up when he met FistPump in high school.
In high school, FistPump and CircusFreak were often seen together, and frequented comic book stores frequently, before later hanging around tattoo parlours.
CircusFreak is one of the two founding members of Morgue Party, and is credited as the genius behind the awesomely hilarious lyrics, and the outrageous, OTT song titles.
Andy "FistPump" - DrumsFistPump was a loner as a child. He quite openly states that his first actual friend in life was CircusFreak, whom he met in freshman year of high school. Although, the fact that he credits this to growing up on a farm and being home schooled until he was 14 has never really been confirmed.
FistPump was the man who first floated the idea of making a death metal band, and as such is the other founding member of Morgue Party. He also penned the original band name, Funeral Parlor.
FistPump once claimed that his greatest achievement up until this point in life was when he walked from Miami, to Houston, Texas in order to procure what he called "The most bitchin'est burger I ever tasted dude!"
He is well known for his insanely fast double kick bass beats.
Frankie "GoreCocker" - BassGoreCocker was one of the original members of the now defunct band GoreGag, a grind death band from Dallas, Texas, who were later based in Florida. The band had quite a large underground following before they split in 2008. From there, GoreCocker joined Funeral Parlor, who would become Morgue Party shortly after.
In early 2011, GoreCocker won an unconfirmed amount of cash on a scratch card, and bank rolled the band's hopeful rise to fame. He also left college recently, where he was training to become a veterinary surgeon. Upon leaving college, he described the surgery career as "A little grim if you think about it actually".
Jonny "DeathMonkey" - Lead GuitarDeathMonkey, like GoreCocker, was also a member of GoreGag, and was the link between Morgue Party and GoreGag. When GoreGag split in 2008, DeathMonkey confided in his friend Al Lipman, who was the cousin of CircusFreak. Lipman told him that his cousin's band was looking for members, and DeathMonkey joined up along with other members of GoreGag.
Originally from England, DeathMonkey has lived in the US since he was 3 years old, with his father being an American citizen. He achieved high grades throughout school, but refused point blank to apply to college, stating that his only intention was to play guitar in a death metal band.
DeathMonkey writes most of the music in MorgueParty, and is known as the quiet man of the band. He takes the music most seriously, and only drinks in moderation.
Dan "RancidDischarge" - Rhythm GuitarRancidDischarge is the newest member of MorgueParty. He had been the drummer of GoreGag before they split, and was left bandless when other members of the band joined Morgue Party, who of course did not need a drummer.
For a few months, RancidDischarge had no band, before he eventually picked up a guitar, discovered he could play a bit, and convinced FistPump to let him join in a practice session with Morgue Party. After this session, he was invited to join the band, and has played guitar since.
RancidDischarge is well known as the wild man of the band. He has frequently dived from stages throughout his career, got into altercations with hecklers, and been arrested on seven occasions for drunk and disorderly behaviour.
He once fell out of the bus door just as the band were leaving a show in Orlando, and had to hitch various rides all the way back to Miami. He claims not to have eaten in the (alleged) seven days it took him to get home.
