Ooc: A review of Katie's full album would be good if you had the time mate. I never got round to requesting that before now. The album title below her name in my sig is a link to it.
And I could do the Riot! one if you want.

OOC: I'm working on Katie Coyle's review now. :) and sure you can do Riot!'s, the album isn't released until July 24 so that gives you plenty of time.

When you say the name Katie Coyle, It sucks that her music isn’t the first thing that comes to mind, sadly her music, which is actually pretty incredible has been dwarfed by the obsessive drama and media attention which is a huge shame. But sadly that’s the way it is with this young singer-songwriter and she’s not entirely blameless in regards to all of the media attention. As a musician she is fascinating, she’s incredibly talented at such a young age and she’s not just another teen popstar, I like to think there’s something more to her music. She is however in my opinion, trailing behind a contemporary of hers … Michelle Green and the reason for this is the difference in attention, You hear the word Michelle Green and no drama’s come to mind but her sweet folkie voice on tracks like Red Symphony, Dark Days and Dance With Danger, she is a world apart, however if Katie could drop the drama, she could quite comfortable become the superstar she seemingly craves to be, a number 1 album isn’t a bad start right? But the drama always come first with this teenage songstress. This is an album review so here it is:

Raindrops, Caffeine, and Other Liquid Stimulants is an indie pop album, it was recorded at the famous, Abbey Road Studios in her hometown of London and features a host of star names including rock frontmen, Jack Straw and Eric Quillington. Released on May 19, 2011 on Studio60 Records, it became a number 1 album and continues to sell well, here’s the rundown ;

It‘s Only My Eyes
The album opens with this soft moody track, originally released in November 2010 as Katie’s debut single. It’s lyrics give you a feel of what is in store for the rest of the record, It’s haunting melody’s and emotive lyrics set the scene for the album, perfectly “It's only my..eyes that cry/I knew you wanted me to go/It's just outside I weep/And never really felt so low.” This song was written and released before the craziness that surrounds Ms. Coyle these days and … shock horror, this song was written about a boy, Oh how times have changed for this teenage songstress. However it is one of the standout tracks from the album in my opinion. 8.5/10

Lust And Cigarettes (Feat. Scott Armstrong)
Track number two is a slightly more relevant song in terms of Katie’s music career, it highlights her difficulties in attempting to break into the music industry, she worked hard on the London circuit to get noticed and it highlights her struggle. It has a more energetic feel than previously, enlisting the help of Scott Armstrong on the guitar, it has plenty of riffs and plenty of energy from Katie’s vocals, as she paints a picture with her words, “And when I think about my nights /In pubs and clubs I feel alright/I gritted my teeth and I waited/It took a while but I graduated.” It’s a good track with one or two high points but it’s the kind of song we’ve heard many times before 6.5/10

Breakthrough (Feat. Will.Rocca)
This song is one of the only obvious pop songs on the album, the album is infused with elements of pop music throughout but this and the final track are the only one’s which stand out as a clear cut pop songs. It’s written about a record label rep going to see a show of Katie’s which eventually led to her signing a record deal, hence the title Breakthrough. “Success is addictive, and it’s coming for me/But all I want is just to live and a chance to break free/From the lust and all the prying eyes and every fight/To the screaming of thousands every night.” It’s another song we’ve heard many times before but Katie manages to add something a little different to it, lyrically it’s strong in parts and weak in others but lines like “I’m going now, and I won’t look back/At Orchards Gold and Bulls of Black.” are different and give this song a slightly more unique feel to it. 7/10

Sunrise In Suburbia (Feat. Jack Straw)
It’s of course always good to write things you relate to and things that are going on in your life, however when you look at the title, you picture one thing and it turns out to be completely different, this and the track Invanity sadly do this, however Invanity is an incredible song, we’ll get to that one later. This isn’t about her relationship with Nicole Woods as it would have you believe, it’s basically a homage to Suburban Sunrise and a kind of thank you for letting Ms. Coyle tour with you. It’s inclusion in this album sadly makes me think it was included for different reasons, on the back of everything that was happening around Ms. Coyle at the time. But it’s weak in my opinion, it’s soft acoustic feel is good because it suits Katie well but it’s lyrics in my opinion should have dictated more power on the music, a lively rock track would have been better for this one. 6/10

Intravenous (Feat. Jenny Hudson)
Again this isn’t what I’m so fond of, It’s a song about Miss Vanity. Save it for the autobiography. But I realise it’s tough to not include your personal life and everything that’s going on in your lyrics so it is understandable. But it is slightly too obvious for me. Lyrically it’s pretty solid and musically it gives you something a little different but I don’t like the thought of her drama overshadowing her work which makes me struggle with this track and the previous one. She’s a talented singer-songwriter but drop the drama. You’ve got the tools to be a superstar based on your talent, focus on it. Lyrically Katie is very talented, “The truth could be a liberator/My sentimental ventilator/Let me breathe.” She just needs that to be the focus more. 6/10

Naked On Paper (Feat. Eric Quillington)
Again this is another track that focuses on what Katie went through and again it’s a little frustrating but this time, she has created a monster of a song, she shows of her ability perfectly with this, lyrically and vocally it’s an incredible track that she should cherish for years to come, it is a shame that it’s focus is primarily on Katie’s drama but she knocked it out of the park on this one, “And now I’m naked on paper, I’m Exposed to the world/It’s a hopeless situation, and/I’m just a hopeless girl, oh so/Naked on paper/Why can’t you see all the pain, oh/My mind is like a pavement/Weather beaten in the rain.” are lyrics that shows the ability and standard that this young girl has. Again, she should put the focus on that rather than the drama but I have to say this is one incredible track and is one of the best songs I’ve heard in a very long time. 8/10

Invanity (Feat. Eric Quillington)
Lyrically she’s hit another home run with this track, once again though my frustration is with the topic but I can’t deny the genius of this song, the best track on the album in my opinion and lyrically it’s emotive and artistic, she bares her soul on this and it’s a preview of just how great she can become, but it’s a long way to greatness and people often falter on the journey, only time will tell whether Katie can live up to the promise but if she can continue to develop and learn then I don’t see why she can’t be the superstar she so desperately craves to be, “And aye ee aye need/Someone to hold my hand, and/Aye ee aye need/A girl who’s more than a friend, and/This is not what we agreed to/I am not the enemy/But you act just like a princess/Denying all knowledge of me.” She has the tools and she uses them well but it’s finding the consistency which seems to be the difficult thing for her. This is however, a genius song. 8.5/10

Shattered Dreams (Feat. Jack Straw)
This is a very good song, lyrically it’s a solid effort and musically it’s spot on, almost perfect but my own opinions get in the way of my enjoyment of it. It’s as Katie confirmed herself, “about Nicole....and I love Nicole, and this song is all about the hurt and pain she caused me previously. It's not applicable any more.” My beliefs stand in the way once more, but we’re reviewing the song. It is a good song, it’s quite strong and powerful in parts and changes pace quite well, lyrically it’s good. “You thought it was a joke when you ran your mouth/It's the funny kind of thing that I could live without/I'm losing my cool and I'm losing my mind/But all I really needed was for you to be kind.” and it shows me that she is kind of on the path to greatness but the theme dwarfs the music sadly and it makes it almost impossible to judge this album as a whole without all of this stuff coming up. 7/10

Fade Away (Feat. Jenny Hudson)
This is a deep and emotional track, Katie has bared her soul completely and I don’t doubt that recording this album was a difficult experience for her what with everything that was going on but she isn’t blameless in it. It has however created some interesting songs, and this is no different. “Weight of a lonely world/Is baring down on me/My brain failed to take the mould/This pain won’t let me free.” show her lyrical ability and her talent is clear. If she can grow in the next few years she’ll dominate for a long time to come but she has to learn the ways of the industry fast otherwise it will eat her up. It is a good track that perhaps doesn’t quite reach the heights of Naked On Paper and Invanity but it’s only just behind those epics. 7.5/10

Less Than 3 (<3) (Feat. Scott Armstrong)
The album ends with a complete pop track, tailor made for chart success both lyrically and musically. It has an opening acoustic riff which we’ve seemed to hear something similar many times before for example Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) by Green Day. But this is pure pop and shows Katie isn’t afraid of being considered a pop artist however I do think she should focus on a more artistic direction with future releases which is something she has done for the majority of the album. It’s chorus shows it’s obvious pop elements “Cos baby tell me… is it 1 or 2?/Just rate your love for me/It must be one of those numbers/If it’s less than 3/Though they might say it’s madness/I’m devoid of all sadness/When I have you next to me.” So the album closes out on this song, it’s average at best but it’s not a bad song, it’s just not as strong as Naked On Paper or Invanity. 7/10

All in all though it’s a very good album, the outside things need to be addressed and hopefully her drama is behind her, I hope that when the time comes to record and release album number two she will be happy in her life and stop whining and just realise how lucky she is to have this ability. Of course she’s still young and is still learning, but growing up in the media spotlight means you have to grow quicker than the average teenager. She has the ability to be one of if not the biggest name in the music industry for years to come but there’s still a long way to go. A great album nevertheless, I’m gonna give it a 7/10 possible a 7.5/10 and without the Nicole Woods and Miss Vanity stuff that came with this album and a little more consistency throughout, I would say it could have been an 8/10. All in all a great debut effort from a young girl with bundles of talent.

Lily Abbot is by far one of the most interesting characters in the music industry right now, She’s a fiery rock goddess with a vocal ability like no other, her breakthrough into the music industry came at the perfect time as the industry was in need of another rocker chick to worship and her blend of warped lyrics that Stephen King and Edgar Allan Poe would be proud of and her vocal ability that puts many of today’s ‘superstars’ to shame have helped propelled this woman to the top of the rock chick echelons. She is a bizarre individual with a crazed mind but when she puts pen to paper and lays down those vocals, well the only thing you can do is, sit back and admire. So this is my review of her debut album, Raw.

Track 1: Revenge is Sweeter Than Making Up
The album opens with this eclectic mix of fury and rage. It’s the perfect start to what is a rollercoaster of an album. From the slow guitar opening to the accapella vocals in the second verse, it’s eerie, spooky and manages to invoke many feelings when listening to it, my advice to get the best feeling while listening to this song, turn the lights off, put the earphones in and turn the volume up, let it take your soul and once it’s over you’ll feel taking to the streets and creating your own kind of carnage, rarely does a song have this kind of effect on you. One of the standout tracks from the album and a perfect start. 8/10

Track 2: The Bitch In Me
Track two is very guitar heavy, showing just how far into the rock genre that Lily can go with this song, lyrically and vocally it’s pretty epic, however I feel that a slightly less guitar heavy backing would have suited this song a little more, perhaps even acoustic would have been a good option, to give more emphasis to beauty of her vocals which only just manage to compete with the power of the instrumental work on this track. I slightly softer feel could have enhanced the song but that’s just down to my own tastes. 7/10

Track 3: We All Fall Down
This song is perhaps the weakest part of the record, however it is almost redeemed by an absolute perfect vocal from Lily, towards the later stages of the song she hit’s a note that could put her in the same league as the Robert Plant’s and Steven Tyler’s of this world. The song is a little limp for my tastes as it doesn’t really seem to go anywhere with the exception of that perfect vocal from Lily. A little more attention to detail on the song and it could have been a different story. 6/10

Track 4: If This Is Heaven, Send Me Back To Hell
Thankfully, Lily manages to remove any fears after the disappointment of the previous track as she creates a beautiful piece of music with this. Musically it’s rich and epic, the inclusion of flutes, harps and a piano add something else to this. It’s theme, lyrics, music and vocals are all at the very highest standard on this track and in particular, the piano and Lily’s vocals together create one of the most beautiful combinations you will hear. It’s theme about preferring to die rather than live and suffer feel like something Lily feels connected to, certainly she makes us believe the words she sings in this track and for me, it is an undiscovered gem. 8.5/10

Track 5: Gravity Of Love (Enigma Cover)
Gravity Of Love is an absolute treat for me on this record. Already a fan of this kind of music, the opportunity to hear Lily’s take on this was fascinating for me to hear. It’s dark and eerie and suits Lily perfectly as she sings the “O Fortuna velut luna.” I’m already sold on it and I’m more than delighted to hear anyone acknowledging this beautiful song, as the samples of Carmina Burana churn out I’m already in love with this version. Lily shows the ability of her vocals and it feels like she really connects to this song and the music that comes with it. It’s fantastic in my opinion but I’m willing to accept that I may be blind sighted due to my love of the song but it’s a great cover version. 7.5/10

Track 6: Digital Love
This was the very first single from Lily when she broke out early this year. You can see slight differences from this compared to other songs on the record. It feels like she’s come such a long way since this song was recorded and although you can tell that it is Lily it still feels like it isn’t her, perhaps she lets the lyrics empower the song which is understandable, perhaps she tried a little too hard with this being her debut single. The piano on this is a plus and the theme is certainly different and should appeal to her teenage fanbase but I feel like there could have been a little more to this song. Perhaps perfecting it a little more could have made this a standout, but as it is I feel it leaves us wanting a little more from it. 6.5/10

Track 7: Puppet
This is an extremely dark and emotional song, close to Lily’s heart. It’s themes abandonment and neglect make it an emotional rollercoaster and her vocals are beautifully matched with the lyrics which makes you feel something pretty powerful as all great songs do it makes you feel something in your soul and could quite easily bring some listeners to tears, Lily’s vocals are a very powerful tool and if she can get the right lyrics with her vocals then it will become something pretty special, she does that with this song and It’s another solid track. 7.5/10

Track 8: Broken Glass
This track is a complete infusion of music, guitars, drums, bass and keyboards create the perfect setting from this track and it’s theme of being lonely in a relationship is again relatable and it is another anthem for her teenage fanbase. Again her vocals are almost perfect, creating an operatic feel to the song, hitting the notes almost perfectly and the bass line throughout enhances this song. Another very good effort and it shows another side to Lily’s music and her ability to infuse various different sounds. 7/10

Track 9: War
Another change of pace with this song as the drums seem to beat even louder than before. Lily unleashes herself on this song, providing a lot of anger and frustration with her vocals, screaming at some parts in an attempt to get her feelings across. It’s a song about the modern day world, how we’re frustrated at everything from government lies and people fighting with each other, kids being killed and the fact that the world isn’t safe anymore. It’s a different kind of theme but Lily is more than willing to sing about it a tricky subject and it provides another standout track and it sets the album up for a whirlwind ending. 7.5/10

Track 10: Another Day Is Over
The final song from the album is quite possibly the darkest and spookiest track on here. It’s eerie music are perfectly matched by Lily’s haunted voice on the track as she sings about hurt and pain and sings from the heart with this. Her lyrics are at a very high standard and it’s almost like this song follows on from the previous song however it’s not definable and could have various different interpretations which make it relatable to pretty much anyone. Lily hit’s the highs once more on this song and vocally it’s one of the best tracks on the album. 7.5/10

Overall Analysis
So this is an extremely interesting and is a pretty unique record, it has it’s highs and it has it’s lows but as a whole it’s more positive than negative and the fact that it’s a debut record makes it even more great.
The different theme’s throughout are enough to keep us entertained and her vocals are always of a high standard all the way through the album, with a little experience and time then I think she will go on to bigger and better things and I can definitely see Lily creating a magnum opus of a record in the near future. Lily blends many emotions on this record which makes it relatable to almost everyone, anger, fear, love, happiness, confusion and many more make this a record that should be in your collection and if you’re a teenager, then you have no excuse to not have this record, go out and buy it, because it will be the soundtrack to your life for many years to come.
For a debut record and for her vocal consistency I give this record an 8/10.

Well, well, it’s finally here. The most anticipated album of 2011, “Riot! In The Boulevard”, a self titled album from the American rock quintet, has been hyped up to a considerable level over the last few months, and for good reason. Ryan Ross Hernandez has been quoted describing flame haired lead singer, and author of almost all the songs on the album, Amy Meyer, as “The great red hope”, on a number of occasions, having worked with the band in the production stage of their first full length, whilst Scott H of Sanitary Towel, and formerly of Blood Of Wecz described them as one of the only new bands actually worth listening to. But with two such musical heavyweights erecting a daunting pedestal for Riot! To stand atop, would they wobble, teeter and fall off, or would they scale the height with ease and stand tall, triumphant and proud?

Firstly, to describe this band as “they”, is almost disappointingly misleading. We all know that lead singers are the star attractions in bands, and we’re only too aware that pretty female lead singers of rock bands are tremendously more popular than even most lead singers. However, Riot! In the Boulevard almost IS Amy Meyer, or rather she IS Riot! It was rather disconcerting to read a comment during the promo stages of this album in which Justin Mullen described he and his band mates merely as “Amy’s puppets”. As a guitarist myself, and perennial background man for Moronic Changeling, GL(I)TCH and Katie Coyle, I find it quite sad that Mullen and co take a back seat to what is, admittedly, a rather commanding force up front. The album cover itself speaks volumes however…it’s almost as if Amy could crush the insignificant poor guys whenever she feels ready.

Hold the phone though! I’m letting my own inferiority complex get the better of me here. Back to the real business at hand; the actual album. “Riot! In the Boulevard" was recorded in Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, California, and features production from the likes of Ryan Ross Hernandez, Damion Holmes, and the guitarist beater…I mean, Amy Meyer. What, I can’t say that? What does libel mean? Oh dear….ummm, okay, Amy was the best producer on this by far! With an all star cast behind them, it’s quite surprising to note that Riot! Are releasing this album through relatively unassuming label, Nomad Records.

But that’s quite typical of this young rock act. Despite the hype and furore surrounding the imminent release of a full length album, they have managed to stay relatively low-key, out of the limelight, and out of any controversy, unlike many artists do before their debut. This is a respectable characteristic to have, especially when it would have been all too easy to slip into faux-superstar mode, with every man and his dog fawning over them since they first toured with Fathers of Fury earlier in the year. We can only admire and applaud how humble they have been so far, but will it last?

The reason I ask, is because this CD is excellent. Seriously. From start to finish, it is laden with catchy hooks, killer riffs and beats, and an awesome array of vocals from a girl who, as much as it pains me to say it, really carries a song well. When Amy sings, you get this sense of her grabbing the track by the scruff of its neck and shouting “BEHAVE! OR ELSE!” She really does just feel so cool, collected and in control at all times.

The album begins with a catchy bass line, reminiscent of Blink 182’s material from the late 90’s, and the song from whence it came, “Thoughts Like This”, splendidly introduces the listener to the recorded wonder of Riot! In The Boulevard. It’s a very catchy song, gripping from the start, and full of energy, as Amy Meyer reaches deep into your soul with her emotions, relaying tales of loneliness, rejection, and how the two ultimately cause her to feel insane. The chorus is lyrically fantastic, “And It’s Thoughts Like This That Makes Me Go Insane/ Like A Drug Filled Needle Sticking In My Vein/ And It’s Thoughts Like This That Me Go Insane/ For You I’d Take A Bullet To The Brain” allowing the listener to get a genuine feel for the true emotions of the youngster. It doesn’t feel laboured either, as far too many emo anthems over the years have begun to. This feels genuine, and that makes it all the more wondrous.

On the first listen to “Mona Lisa Smile”, I was left, for the first few seconds anyway, feeling a little cold. From the brilliant energy of the opener, Riot! Delve into an accapella verse, detailing a rather sparse description of what we later discover to be a fictional care-free young girl.
The crashing energy which we expect from Riot! Then comes flooding in back in, and it’s eminently better straight away. This is a song which I feel will grow the more listens it receives, but I don’t think it’s placed well on the album, what with the very slow opening verse, which slows the pace down a little too quickly after such a vivacious beginning. That’s not to say it’s not a very good song though. Standing alone, it is still outstanding.

The beginning of “All is Fair in Love and War” had me reaching for the volume on my CD player, as heavy beats and riffs blared uncontrollably out. This song is a lot rockier than the previous two, and the violent nature of the music provides emphasis on the angry undertones of the lyrics. Riot! turn political here, which may be a surprise for those who look at them, and immediately think they’ll just be another generic pop-punk outfit. The song has a strong message relayed throughout, as Amy’s pleading voice asks us to look at what we’re all doing to each other, look at how we’re fighting each other. It is rather poignant, but epic at the same time. “Is That Peace In Front Of Us… It’s A F**king Mirage,” embodies the theme of the song, with a striking anti-war message.

“Sweet Little Fantasy’s” is the next track, and it’s a real winner. Riot!’s debut single, it was a massive success when it was first released, perhaps the reason for much of the hype surrounding them at this point in time. There really isn’t much that I can say about this track that hasn’t been said before. It’s like, a signature for the mind, ingraining exactly what Riot! Are about, deep into the subconscious of the listener. The song has modern influence, whilst drawing from the glory days of stadium rock, and is sure to be the highlight of many a festival this summer.

The next two tracks pale into rather a colourless insignificance next to “Sweet Little Fantasy’s”. Again, it is so important to stress that neither are bad songs. However, the order of tracks lets Riot! Down for the second time here sadly. Placing the lead single directly before a very low key, melodic effort (which is normally played as fully acoustic at live shows) again only serves to disrupt the energy that they bring to the table so emphatically. Whilst the energy lost during “Kiss Goodbye to Harvest Moon” is somewhat rekindled once “All the Stars and Boulevards” eventually kicks in (it also starts decidedly slowly), I can’t help but think that if I’m going to skip any part of the album, it may be these two tracks.

Allow me though to defy my own logic briefly. Following on from these two, is the absolutely incredible “A Moment, An Hour A Lifetime”, a low key, slow, emotional rollercoaster of a song which truly tugs on the heart strings. Amy’s voice is wonderful throughout the slower track, as the production allows the raw emotion and pain which she has evidently felt at some point in life, seep through and merge with the music into an exceptional piece of art. This song, with it’s powerful lyrics, such as, “People Say It’s Better To Have Loved And Lost/But If This Is/The Pain I’ll Feel Then I’ll Pay The Cost/Because Living Without You Is A Pain I Can’t Take/And Although I’ll Live On, My Heart Will Still Ache,” will connect with teenagers all over the world, and will, in my opinion, define the audience who will be buying Riot! Merch and music for years to come. Singles aside, this is my album highlight.

“Long Distance Conversations” continues to take the album in that much lower key direction. The song is believed to relate to Amy Meyer’s relationship with Callum Williams of Dead Roses, and is perhaps the first time we hear lyrics which directly relate to a time in her own life.
“And Another Long Distance Conversation/ With A Two Second Delay/ Is Enough To Put A Pain In Your Heart/ But It Will Get You Through The Day,” is a very emotive section of a song which is obviously very personal to Amy, and which will, again, connect with the type of audience Riot! Are clearly targeting.

The sound of a train chugging consistently along a track brings about a symbolic end to the softer section of “Riot!…”. When “Assassination in a Subway Station” kicks in, it truly does make the listener bounce along in time. The song itself is tragic, relaying a story of a girl who lost her mother to murder (although the cause can only be presumed from the title)…but it really does bring out the best in Riot! As a band. The music is energetic, loud and jumpy, with Amy’s voice rawer than elsewhere on the album, and so moreish. When all goes briefly silent, and Amy screams “Cry Cry Cry, Oh Cry Cry Cry” with a raw emotion that makes the hairs on your neck stand up, you suddenly feel a deep connection to band who, on this form, will have so much to offer for the years to come which they will no doubt spend at the very pinnacle of the industry.

Whether “Echoes of My Soul” becomes a single in the future or not, it is undeniably one of Riot!’s more poppy songs. A mixture of pure pop-rock which is more reminiscent of Busted than Riot! With a soft melodic side which wouldn’t sound out of place in a more upbeat Michelle Greene track, Amy again lets her heart do the talking, in yet another song which you can expect teenagers to lap up over the coming months.
Whilst the track is definitely different to most of their other songs, and may be a little too different for some fans, the final accapella lines, “So This Is Not The End Of Your Dreams/This Is Just The Start/Believe In The Echoes Of Your Soul/Believe It With All Your Heart.” again scores a direct hit in the heart strings. This girl certainly knows how to generate a tear or 2 million.

When we hear a title such as “Dear Diary”, a concept which many a pop star has raped for generic chart assault, it may be all too easy to scoff and slap the emo sticker all over it. However, this song really has something. Starting slowly, and welcoming the energy again later in the track, “Dear Diary” is a real coming of age epic, and “I Owe A Lot To Your White Blank Pages/You Help Me Grow Up, Through The Ages,” is amongst the best lyrics I’ve heard in the last five years. So poignant, and so true to many teenagers and young adults, it is really indicative of what people all over the world owe to their secret, non-judgemental confidante.
“Dear Diary” also put a smile on my face, as Justin Mullen was allowed to shine, with a really brilliant guitar solo, which not only sounds great on it’s own, but really compliments the track, like a fine white wine does to an expensive fish dish.

And the solos don’t end there! Clearly, this is turning into the “Justin Mullen extravaganza” towards the end of the album, and he hits all the right notes again with his mid-track solo during “Something Old, Something New”, the final “official track” on the brilliant debut. The album finale contains the kind of chorus that could end up staying with you for weeks too. Isn’t that a great way to end an album? The chorus is as stand out as it is typical of Riot! ““Something Old, Something New, Something Fragile/Will My Broken Heart Do/Something Old, Something New, Something Dying/It’s Sent To You.” I can just picture thousands of teens chanting along in time all summer long.

Now! Should you have bought a CD version of the album, skip to the conclusion now…but if you were cool, and modern, and bought the album on iTunes, then please continue.

The first of two iTunes bonus tracks on “Riot!…” is called “Clip My Wings”, and features Jack Straw of Fathers of Fury, a co-writer of the song, which was penned in conjunction with Meyer during their time together on tour. It’s quirky, it’s cool, and if rumours are to be believed, it is set to appear on Taylor Asbridge’s “…And Friends” album later this year. A fun song, which is different to every other track here, although that’s only to be expected when we take the outside influence into account.

And finally, the archetypal Riot! song. Everyone knows it, everyone loves it. It is, of course, “All The Non Believers”, the song which signifies the band’s most successful moment to date, when it raced to number on in the Top 20 Airplay chart a number of weeks back.
The song starts, like a few on the album do, with an accapella intro, before bursting to life, and providing what is, without doubt, one of the most memorable sing-along choruses of the year so far. “We Are All The Non Believers/We Are Just Losers And Leavers/We Are Lovers And Breeders/We Are All The Non Believers.” is just so catchy it’s quite unbelievable. One can picture sweaty teens, tears in their eyes, joyously firing these words back at the red haired beauty in front of them, night after night, for a long time to come. This song typifies everything about who Riot! are. It is energetic, catchy, and a sing-along classic for the modern era. Most of all, it is, without doubt, the highlight of a brilliant debut album.

To sum up this album is actually rather easy. Each song is individually great, and together, they will stand the test of time. As far as debut albums go, this will rival Katie Coyle’s “Raindrops, Caffeine an other Liquid Stimulants” and Lily's "Raw" for a much coveted “best of 2011”, and the winner is anyone’s guess. Riot! Have created a real signature sound here though. This isn’t just any old rock record. It is a magnificent mixture of talent, energy, and amazing lyrical prowess which defies their age, both in terms of life and career span.

The only negative points, which I have mentioned above are; the order of tracks. Each song really is brilliant, but the placement of some songs in relation to others sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. This skill will be easily learned over time though. Perhaps slightly more disappointingly though, is how the album as a whole measures up to its two precursors….the singles. Sadly, the two singles turn out to be the two album highlights as opposed to a taster of what is to come.

Again though, let’s not take away anything from this band. They have done something admirable by putting their collective head down and getting on with their music. An all too rare occurrence these days. They have skill, they have talent, and they have a classic debut album which will rocket them all the way to future musical royalty. Most importantly though, I guarantee you, they have next week’s number one!

Score time! And if this album had managed to reach the heights all round of the singles we had heard before its release, it could have easily reached the giddy heights of 9....sadly, the two songs slightly overshadow the, still brilliant, rest of the album, and it gets an excellent 8/10

ooc: I tried to make this as comprehensive as I could. Reading your album back, it really is special, lyrically and decription-wise. So hopefully this does it justice. I tried to include some negative to make it more believable, and gave Lukey a babbling start by complaining about lead singers lol. Let me know if it's okay. :)
