Say's it all in the name really. Is it down to a person how they make their money, or can the wider consequences that happen to people who don't become prostitutes voluntarily be too severe to allow any kind of prostitution? Discuss!

I disagree with the idea of prostitution but making it legal does at least mean it can be made safer for the girls who are involved in it

The legal sex trade works, or so I'm told in the likes of Prague and Amsterdam, so why not?

I don't believe there should be free scope for prostitutes to wander the streets to solicit for sexual favours in exchange for money. However, a red light district, with proper controls would perhaps be a solution.

Don't really see why it shouldn't be legal. I think there's kind of a fear that monogamous relationships could be more easily violated if there's legal prostitution, but I think a regulated sex trade is better for everyone than an unregulated black market sex trade. Think of the tax revenue alone.

I think it could be legal, of course for over age girls only! There are so many advantages these girls could get if this occupation was legal, you know, even vacations LOL it's funny after all.. but I guess it's worth, because you do what you want with your body!

i think that there is a very good case for a form of legalise prostituton...
regular health check ups, safe working locations.. Free to be able to report abusive and violent customers.
I hate it when people see me at the supermarket and they are like:

But what about Jesus? Do you not think it could create a kind of society that thinks it's okay to have meaningless sex? Or do we have that already?

I'm kinda neutral here not really sure just playin' devils advocate.

Same with abortion, her body and her decision. Well actually there are male prostitutes too, so same for guys. I mean, people pay to see other people get naked in strip clubs, and people get paid in porn, which is basically paying someone to have sex with someone else. Well, that's exactly what it is actually. So it should be legal.

Well if you're playing the religious angle, you could argue that Christianity advocates sex only for making babies and nothing else - especially not for pleasure. Also according to Christianity, wives are for bearing and raising children and nothing else, so you know...

I think sexual liberation came with women's liberation - her choice not to just be a means for procreation.

It should be legal. I agree with all of the reasons stated by people above. I can add another reason also. I don't quite live there, but about five minutes northeast from where I live you pass into Nevada which is the only state in the USA which does have legal prostitution. All of the shopping is there, and so is the school I go to, and my family gets the local paper from Nevada. Currently Nevada has the worst economy of all fifty states. One of the few parts of Nevada's economy that is working is prostitution.

Prostitution should be legal, just in certain areas of a city, and no organized prostitution.

By organized prostitution, I mean it shouldn't be operated as a business, rather it should be prostitutes working for themselves. Obviously, this won't be followed, which is partially why the whole thing is illegal, as well as it is deemed "immoral" to sell sex.

But then surely it's way easier for someone to get hurt if they're just on their own?

Well, prostitutes need to live, to afford food & rent. Organised prostitution, in the sense of it being moved to certain areas, eliminating curb crawlers & removing pimps from the process. State run brothels! That means you ensure a certain standard of health & safety for a start.

Do you really think the government is going to fund prostitutes? Sure, it's profitable. But they'd get such massive shit and complaints from the taxpayers, having their money spent on something that doesn't benefit the community (with the exception of mental and emotional joy for a couple hours), and may consider "immoral", like I mentioned earlier.

Besides, the majority of these prostitutes would be women. I doubt gigolos would be too successful to keep them operating. What we should REALLY be doing with these women is having them make plastics toys and clothes/shoes, which we can then put into the market, distribute them to retail stores, small grocery stores, clothing shops, pharmacies, etc. We can earn a much larger profit, than stealing the moneys of OUR citizens by instead taking it away from other nations, with which, we can use the money to fund our military and space programs.

I didn't say the state should fund prostitutes (though plenty of countries have legalised prostitution, or at least decriminalised prostitution & get by just fine). The punters would still fund the hookers, the state would just take a cut of it in exchange for safe, clean working enviroment & regular STD checks. It raises funds for the treasury, not take them away. I also believe that the state should provide licensed premises for selling drugs. Similar in concept to the state run off-licenses for selling alcohol in Scandinavia, only selling coke & acid instead of bourbon. I don't really care what easily offended moralistic bible thumpers have to say about what's moral to be honest, so long as they keep harping on about "eye for an eye" & similar neanderthal bullshit. Taking moral advice from those sorts is like taking sex tips from a virgin: they haven't got a clue.

A) What does their gender matter? There are plenty of male prostitutes out there, why should they not also get protection from absuive Johns?
B) You don't understand economics. I mean I don't either to a massive degree, but your suggestion here is ridiculous. For companies to hire these women to "make plastic toys and clothes/shoes" they'd need to do it for less than people in third world countries. And why on earth would they accept pennies a day when the cost of living in Britain or America is far higher than it is in Bangladesh or wherever? They'd be better off swallowing mens cum, financially speaking. Welcome to free market economics. Your suggestion has no basis in reality. Capitalism does not care about where you are from, only that companies are making the maximum profits it can.
C) HUH? "We can turn a larger profit", who is the we in this statement? And "stealing the money of our citizens"? Who is doing the stealing? Also, the last thing America needs is to spend more money on its military. In 2009 40% of global arms spending was by America, which is 6 times higher than China. IT IS RIDICULOUS AND UTTERLY UNSUSTAINABLE

It is not up to the government to decide what adult has cosenting sex with what adult. If pepole want to have the disgusting job of having sex with random paying strangers, let them go ahead and do it. I still think it's disgusting.
