The lights go up and The Band is in their places on the stage. Everything is set as if they are about to begin, but John surprises everyone. He has a few words. He leans into Kim’s microphone.

“I’ll try to be utterly brilliant” he says. “Don’t worry I won’t get drunk or sing.”

Is he already drunk? The world will never know.

They play Montagues and Capulets the biggest single from their latest album. Kim looks like her usual gaudy self; she’s wearing a black cardigan sweater with a tie, and tight leopard print pants with a low enough rise to give the tiniest hint of what she’s got on underneath. The rest of The Band looks very English wearing coats and ties befitting of Oxford boys. John’s guitar is mostly perfect, although it drowns out the bass a bit, making it different from the album version. The arrangement has been expanded, with an in house horn section and two musicians on individual drums next to Pitt and his drum set. There are also various miscellaneous percussionists. The first verse is slightly slower than on the album, and Kim is almost talking the lyrics. Her vocals are also fiercer and shoutier on the chorus. She hops about and does a seductive, pseudo-choreographed dance, keeping the rhythm throughout the song. During the last chorus she gives up on bass and jumps up and down on the mike stand. Just as the song concludes, John, in an uncharacteristically rock star move, swings his guitar like a cricket bat, smashing it against one of the drums sending them both across the stage. John quickly leaving the stage, appearing more relieved than anything else. Kim loves the ovation; blowing kisses and curtseying for the audience.
