12. My Shotgun Fairytale
Writers: Matt Collins and Vin Peters
Characteristics: Aggressive intro, quirky chord timing I got myself in a mess
I burn it out with cigarettes
I dream about a lifetime of hate
I find my life inside glass
On display, everyone laughs
I sink into infinite tragedies
I'm the villain in all of your disney stories
I deceive
I fight
I scheme
You bleed
But I can't stop...
My shotgun fairytale
I guess I should be turning away now
I guess I shouldn't be
Just another mindless fake ID
My shotgun fairytale
I guess I should be fixin' it up now
I guess I shouldn't be
Just another faceless statistic
I lie so much I cannot help
but deceiving even myself
I know one day it will catch up with me
I now defy the laws
of everyone I meet
I give everyone a reason to hate
I'm the villain in all of your disney stories
I deceive
I fight
I scheme
You bleed
But I can't stop...
My shotgun fairytale
I guess I should be turning away now
I guess I shouldn't be
Just another mindless fake ID
My shotgun fairytale
I guess I should be fixin' it up now
I guess I shouldn't be
Just another faceless statistic
Music/Background: The song begins with an angry sounding aggressive set of power chords that are soon coupled by a very wild sounding guitar intro. The intro infact is not a single riff but sounds more like it would be a small chunk of a guitar solo. The bass has a little bit of a funk influence to add to the overall punk rockness of it. The drums are nothing extremely unique. They supply a great backbone to the song, are certainly headbang worthy. The power chord progression is powerful and has all sorts of timing quirks during the verse while Vin plays an undertoning riff. The chorus sees Vin busting out some memorable licks while Billie's vocals get less aggressive than for the verse. Towards the end of the song Vin plays a slightly mindblowing guitar solo while Matt and Billie harmonize the chorus which at this point comes secondary to Vin's guitar playing. The chorus is played once more after the solo before the opening of the song is played again and steadily fades out.
Matt: This son was written at the beginning of summer. The lyrics were leaked onto our website the day Vin and I wrote it. The song is basically about being the bad guy and knowing it and making efforts to undo things you've done even when you know you can't.

Vin: I thought that since this is the last track on disc 1 I'd share some thoughts on the future. Tracks 11 and 12 are both new songs. They don't really represent where were going. They are songs that we wrote and we liked the lyrics. We aren't going to start writing songs that only require an acoustic guitar to play as "Sunburns" might suggest. As fun as the tune is I'm also sick of writing songs like "My Shotgun Fairyale" that are loud aggressive catchy and focused almost exclusively and vocals and guitars. We have begun writing our next album that will be full of new songs and it's going to be different and quite possibly a very musically progressive album that will hold our best lyrics yet.
