Two Sides To The Story, Track-By-Track
Ok, as promised we are going to bring you a short track-by-track description of each song on our upcoming record. With only 2 days until release date, we are beyond excited to see the reaction the album has. We have said it before, its not about the money.. not to us anyway, we would do this even if we didn't get paid. We're just 4 regular guys, who share a passion for making music. We are humble and very grateful of the support you have all shown to us, we will never be able to repay you all for this, but we hope to try.
Well, here we go, the track-by-track description, this is the final update before the penultimate day, tomorrow. Enjoy.
Let Go
This is a very upbeat rock song for the considering the subject at hand. It starts with a huge intro, but then tones down quickly. Its basically about a relationship which is ending uncontrollably, and you would do anything to help keep it together. Really if you don't let go, you can make it back together again.
Fly Away
Fly Away was highly considered to be released as the first single from the record, but we alter opted for Cameras and Lights. We experimented a little on this, it was the first time we really went for a pop rock vibe, so we got the synh in at the start, and then let it explode.. it all just felt right. The song itself is about having to get out of this town to save your relationship. At the time i was having a real battle with LA, which was destroying my relationship. It is one of the more radio friendly songs on the record.
Everytime
Everytime is the first ballad on the album and is probably my favorite song too! It was originally previewed on our website for the release of 'Our Last Summer' and it got a good yet small reception. I love writing ballads and with Everytime i learned the piano! So, i got a nice backing tune to it edited the previous version and the outcome was very enjoyable. Its a song i wrote about my college girlfriend who broke up with me after a 2 year relationship, although the song describes the high parts. Its got one of the most addictive choruses to sign along too.
Drawing Blood (Featuring Sam Maine and Alex Ward)
Well, where do i start with this. Drawing Blood is probably the most anticipated song off of the record as it sees us take a different approach, we go much much heavier and have some awesome guests on the song. The song is about a relationship which broke up because of a cheating girlfriend who is trying to get us back together again. Its an aggressive song which when originally written, contained so much swear words! We toned that down a bit to make it more respectful, but its a song which is going to get mosh pits going on tour.
Cameras and Lights
Cameras and Lights was released as the first single from the record and thus far has charted at number 7 on the Airplay chart! It was a really inspirational song and i drew alot of influences from Explosions In The Sky on it, it was about following your dreams and not letting people tell you, you aren't gunna make it. We tangled with the lyrics to avoid it being to cheesy, although it is a slow song filled with group vocals, its a song that played live, gives us goosebumps. Hearing the fans chant the lyrics back is, well.. breathtaking for us.
World Comes Alive
This is a really fun song! Its about getting wasted, partying with your girl in hand. Its largely electro based with my sister Lily providing help on the synth front. But yeah its a cool song which was intended to be the first single from the album but we later went against it. It is looking like its going to be the second single. Its got a really infectious chorus and bridge, we had fun recording it with all the "Na Na Na's" im excited to play this song live. Its the most upbeat song on the record.
Its Over
From the most upbeat to one of the most depressing! Its Over is exactly what it says on the tin, about a relationship that just ended and being in shock about it all. You never expected it and the only thing you can think of for curing it is drowning your sorrows in alcohol. Its a really personal song because i actually wrote it whilst i was drunk over it ending haha, and at the time i was destroyed by the relationship ending.
Visually Impaired
Visually Impaired is about finding out your relationship is about to end. Being motionless when you've just been told that its over, the world feels like its stopped spinning, you don't know exactly what to do. So yeah, its a sad song but got a huge chorus! Its quite 'poppy' compared to the rest of the record and we're really pleased with it. We dont want to think of it as a filler, because we believe all songs on our record could be released as a single!
Darkest Nights
Darkest Nights which was released as our first ever single is a really personal song to me as its a song i wrote while in rehab at 17. This was a really tough time for me and my family so i tried my best to come clean and.. well, i did. We broke out the acoustic guitar for it, and added in some piano during the verses but made sure there was alot of noise during the chorus because at the time, it wasn't so simple. Although we later edited this and made it much heavier for this record, we wanted it to resemble how tough this was to get through.
Take It Away
Take It Away is an upbeat song focused around a past girlfriend who cheated on me with another person. Its not as depressing as it sounds, we tried to use some light-hearted lyrics just because is was a joke what happened, something i couldn't believe. It starts of with a long 1 minute instrumental which basically acts as the intro the album, it really shows you what's to come on the record its a good teaser. Its a big FU to past relationships! Its a great song to play live and has a monster chorus.
Parties Over
Its the balance between upbeat and sad again here. Its probably the sadest song on the album, about a bad break-up. Its when you feel you've reached as low as you could, then hit a new one with being dumped. I think its really affective because instead of including a bridge, we have got something a little different on there instead which makes the song more sad. It is also one of the only songs on the album to include an instrumental solo. We have a feeling this will be a fan favourite.
Its Playtime Kids (Featuring Kamikaze Kate)
Its a strange one. The title and guest appearance is misleading, which is what we were going for when writing it. Its basically an upbeat song about past times, the so called 'good old days' of youth, where you really didnt give a fuck or anything. It also incorporates a lot of elements from songs on the album, because each song written is a chapter in my life. Kate does a fabulous song on it, we couldn't of asked for anyone to do it better.
Set The Score
Set The Score was written during the summer, one of the last songs written for the record. I wrote it whilst i was on holiday in Europe, Cyprus to be more precise. And ah, i would lie at the pool all day for one reason, to look over at the girl sunbathing at the other side. Its not as creepy as it sounds. We we're both giving each other the eyes y'know, i was running high on emotions, nothing could keep me down. So everyday i would come down to the pool just to see her. However, one day she left.. her holiday ended. And i was so pissed with myself for not making a move, not talking to her, getting her number or even knowing her name! Its got a real pop-punk vibe with a few screams from Nate.
Runaway (Featuring Chloe)
Runaway, the album closer. Its a really nice song with quirky lyrics. After writing it, i thought the song required female vocals for it to work. So, we called up Chloe and her management and they we're more than supportive of this cause. Its really a song about a relationship, the highs and lows. A relationship which has many break ups which is showcased in the second verse, which is a change of mood compared to the first one. And then on the bridge which we are very happy with, me and Chloe both sing together and we feel its effectiveness. Standing at 6minutes long, we hope it will keep your attention throughout!
