Mm, now I think of it, there's more to American television than HBO. Not much more, but more. Any American cop/law show is good, House is a good watch and even some American comedies like Seinfield and Friends are pretty good. As well as South Park and, to a lesser extent, Family Guy, American Dad, Futurama, even the Simpsons.

Has anyone seen Inspector Montalbano? Great Italian cop show, each episode is about an hour to an hour and a half long.

It's one of those shows where you do really have to be there from the start of each Season to the end. Took me about a season before I could remember half the characters names, and I still have difficulty working out what some of the characters are saying to one another, because Baltimore street-talk is not my area of expertise, nor are the technical aspects of police operations. Only up to the end of season 2 on the BBC, but I can say without a doubt that I enjoyed the second more than the first.

Fuck American television.

That's what I think. As for American cartoons; I love 'em!

Seriously though, American television has some boring shit on it. I got 10000+ channels and never find anything interesting. Usually I just get friends over or something and watch a PPV. The only shows that I watch more than often are Two and a Half Men, King of the Hill, and of course; Spongebob Squarepants. I watch it every day.

Y'know, that's kind of why I like The Wire. I have an appreciation for entertainment where things happen at quite a sedate pace, and that are dialogue heavy. So long as the dialogue is well written, I just liking hearing these folk chatter away. And that's the thing. It builds slowly, it tends to really climax in the second last episode with the last one just to wrap things up. I think that's a brilliant way to do stuff, it just keeps me interested. Rather than BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! from one episode to the next, though that can obviously done in a fantastic and gripping manner, like the modern Battlestar Galactica remake. But sometimes it's nice to see something done in a fantastic and subtle manner, and The Wire really is that show. You have to see every episode, especially the first few, or the rest of the series will just not make any sense.

Essentially it seems to be The Sopranos' model. It's about real people and their real lives in a mundane world of bickering and pettiness and tragedy. Don't know about you, but this season my favourite character was Frank Sobotka, and he wasn't funny, heroic, or noble, but at the same time he wasn't evil, or some criminal mastermind. He was just a middle-aged working class middle-man, who got in over his depth. Nothing is black and white in The Wire, the good guys do bad things, the bad guys do good things. British TV is never that complex.

Exactly. We do seem to struggle to make 3 dimensional characters. Everyone seems to be mostly a stereotype, essentially a cardboard cut out.

But no, the best character in season 2 was Brother Moveson.

I absolutely agree with what you've both been saying, and I would also concur that in the proper series, that kind of character development and attention to detail is a plus. Perhaps I simply didn't give the series enough time, and that would be my own fault, but my time is limited enough as it is... I need the BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! :D
Instead of the Everyday is:

Kevin DelGaudio (Guitar)

Rob Palladio (Drums)
Anton Pierce (Keybords)

If you're talking about The Wire, no there is no sixth.

I don't mind American television shows, they are far better than what Australian television networks pump out.

Well, some shows are good. Others I can't stand. Some shows I personally hate because the things in the series is dumb. Like Family Guy, it's not that funny and they practically kill people for a small laugh. I don't get it. Perhaps, it's just cuz i'm foreign.
