BLOG UPDATE – 11/7/2011NEW ALBUM ON THE HORIZONAnd Now All I See Are Fireflies, You And Me And I’ll Still Close My Eyes For The Element Of Surprise I’ll Still Close My Eyes For The Element Of Surprise I’ll Close My Eyes And All I See Are You, Me And Fireflies Brandon Caulfield – Fireflies & Bedouins Dear fans and friends;
Today I can bring you some news regarding a new album, as a lot of you are aware; I have been working on a new album since August, some details have become available on various websites over the past few months and it’s been no secret that I’ve been working on new songs, writing and recording with my backing band in Los Angeles for a while now. Well today I can confirm that the album is extremely close to completion and despite my earlier estimates on a release date being set for early 2012, I can tell you all that the album could very well be set for release at the end of this month or the beginning of December which will hopefully come as good news to many of you and I can bring you some small details regarding the album right now for those of you unwilling to wait.
Firstly; the album is titled Fireflies & Bedouins and some of you may remember the lyrics to the title track from the album that I posted on this website a short amount of time ago. I can confirm that musically it is much of the same as my previous album, it will be more of the same acoustic/piano based alternative rock, the sound may be slightly richer with the addition of my backing band but as always, the emphasis will be fully on the lyrics. The album will also be somewhat of a concept piece as it tells a story of the transformation of an awkward teenager throughout, however it’s not the complete focus of the record but basically each song informs the next song in some way which I hope enhances the power of the album not just as a piece of music but more as a story which is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time now, I become fascinated with story’s and I think that the two combine perfectly providing it doesn’t become overblown and egotistical.
More details on the album will no doubt become available in the near future but for now, that is all that will be confirmed on the album … now onto a different issue which I’d like to announce; As many of you are aware, I’ve released two albums already this year, Into The Wild Part I in February and the follow up, Into The Wild Part II in May. I’m aware that it takes some people a lot longer to make music and put it out there and I’m fully aware that three full length albums in the space of one year is pretty productive to say the least, but this will also signal a much more slowed down approach to my music as I look to focus on other things for the foreseeable future, I can’t confirm or deny anything right now because anything can happen in time and I won’t categorically rule out another new album sometime in the next two years but right now in this moment, I can confirm that I plan on taking quite some time away from music after the release of Fireflies & Bedouins and some sort of tour in support of it. This isn’t down to lack of motivation or inspiration but more a case of looking at the more important things in my life right now and the plans that I share with someone very special, so Fireflies & Bedouins could be the last album for a few years which is why I spent many months working on it to make sure it was the perfect way to bring a close to this wonderful year.
And of course some of you may have guessed the reason for this planned absence from music is, with a wedding currently being planned it becomes quite obvious and I have come to realize over these past months that it is highly important to cherish the things that mean the most to you and not to let your time on this earth go to waste and so my focus over the next few years will definitely switch from music to family and although music will always play a huge part in my life, I know that when I close my eyes at night I see a picture of what my life can become and I know now more than ever before exactly what I want from this life and that is a family, the kind of family that I never thought existed, the kind of family that I never had and that’s what my future holds and it may be a switch of focus but with Fireflies & Bedouins I firmly believe that this will be the best album that I can create and therefore is the perfect album to close this chapter of the book with, but remember, it’s not a goodbye, just a farewell.
