Bad Ass Studio Blog - 1 + Album track teaser
Wow, so here we are again. I'm sitting in front of my MacBook Pro again with a coffee and a teddy bear, snuggling up and typing to the world. I feel like my life has an actual value at last though. It's nice :) It's like I have an actual career to work towards, and I've stopped being angry, and nasty. I just feel so warm inside knowing that everything is starting to fall into place for me :)
So this is going to be the place on my site where you can see my studio blog, yeah? I'll update every now and again with lil bits and pieces about how the recording of the album is going. It might not be every day, but it will certainly be often enough to keep you guys in touch with wht I'm doing and stuff like that you know? Awwww, I hope you guys enjoy it :) A big shout out to my inspirations at the moment too. Hayden, my boyfriend - I love you, and you make me smile when I think of you :) To MLC and Aaron - you guys are my favourite artists on the scene at the moment. Love you both dearly, and you inspire me to write music. And to Amy Meyer - I may have been nasty to you the other day, but that was pure jealousy. You are my idol, and I hope to one day be able to write a song half as good as you!
Anyway, onto the studio! So yeah, not much to report today. We arrived here this morning, and I was overwhelmed. Previous recording efforts have been so different for me. When I was in CBC we recorded our music on a Line 6 TonePort...yeah....that bad. It was a pile of shit, and it was so awful to record on. Then with BLS, it was like on a bus, but they were using some weird program..GarageBand I think, to like edit it, which I had never seen before.
So today, to come into an actual studio, with like the glass bit and the like telling you to shush, and then big desk and everything, and even ProTools! I was so amazed. It felt almost like I had made it. I almost retired there and then lol. But seriously, I sooo have to thank Chaos Records for this. Without them I'd never have got the chance to come to a place like this and make a record. I am forever in their debt for offering me the chance.
So yeah, the first day we lay down a track, which was cool. It's the title track of the album, and probably one of my favourites lyrically. You guys are gonna get like a minute preview at the bottom of this blog so get ready :P. But yeah, I felt so at home in there just singing my own lyrics to my own songs in my own studio time for my own record. You might be able to guess already but I'm so happy.
Hmmmmm....not much else to report from the studio really for today....there was a lot of learning the ropes and posing involved lol :D Ummm.....so you guys wanna hear an album track preview? Yay.....me too. I'm so excited. It's called
Dancing With the Puppet Masters, and here it is....talk to you all soon :P
*~*Cass~*~Dancing With the Puppet Masters - PREVIEW
Track: Dancing With the Puppet Masters
Artist: Cassie Summers
Genre: Pop-punk
Length: 1:00 PREVIEW
Written by: Cassie Summers
Lyrics by: Cassie Summers
Cassie SaysWow so here we are huh? Just as promised, an album track preview for ya. Sorry it's only a minute of a song guys, but my label wouldn't let me release any more than that at this point. They tell me to concentrate on getting a full album recorded and out there rather than releasing something every time I record it. Woops :P I guess I'm just eager for everyone to hear what I can do really :).
So yeah, this song is another pop punk song. I like this one more than Pocket Rocket because it has more of a punch. I love the way the guitars contrast at the start and the way the drum roll comes in on the pre chorus you know? It just sounds more advanced than Pocket Rocket did. LOVE! <3! The chorus was fun to record to, because I got to shout a bit. I had to stand like a bit back from the mic and shout the lyrics loud rather than sing them. It was the producer's idea, and it was fun to try new methods. Also, it sounds kind great :P
The lyrics...are about people who are famous because of who they know rather than their talent. I won't mention names obv! But I think there are a lot of spoiled little people out there who could do with a reality check :)
So yeah, enjoy this limited preview. I hope you like it :)
The TrackThe song starts with a quick "one-two" beat repeated over and over on the hi-hat and snare rim, before a big guitar slide comes in a few seconds later, and the drums stop.
The high octane intro consists of two chunky sounding, ever-so-slightly distorted guitar chords, interchanging with three high pitched strums on the other guitar, which sound vibrant and lively, and lend the song a poppy-jumpy edginess that sounds happy and contrasts the chunky chords.
Eventually, the chunky chords go, and the tempo slows as the higher pitched chords "win" and they play repeatedly over a lowing drum beat. One single drum beat then sees this chord progression replaced by a chunky quick little typical pop-punk verse riff, designed to just fade nicely into the background, and allow Cassie's voice to shine through.
When she starts to sing, she does so with a summery tone to her voice in the first 4 lines (the verse). Each line starts of quiet and mid toned, getting slightly louder, faster and higher towards the end of each line, where the last note is held for a brief period.
After, "Just let them see", the guitars stop, replaced with a very quiet mid-tempo drum roll which Cassie sings slowly over throughout the the pre chorus, singing the short lines in a slightly sad tone to contrast the verse.
At the end of the pre-chorus there is a slight pause, before a smash on the crash cymbal welcomes the guitars back in and Cassie's voice sounds so different. She shouts the lines, but with a skill which makes her sound fresh and edgy, and still talented. The chorus actually sounds very poppy despite her shouting, but has a distinctly punky, punchy edge to it.
And then the song fades....because it's merely a preview track.....
The LyricsYou're in the dark, it's getting hard to see.
Sight's suffocating, is something wrong, you feel so incomplete.
Because no one's staring, You're nothing in this town,
light the fuse, and take the plunge, it's time to make up ground.
--
Just let them see,
where our friends can take us
Look to the top you'll see
Is that the fake us?
--
Your head's held high when you're going places,
It seems like you know all the right faces.
They picked you up when you were going down,
You clearly think that you're too big for this town.
