'The days of blissful, unaware ramblings have long since been left in the past'

Recording sessions for Infinite's new album, Dancing about Architecture, have just concluded. Work on the band's fifth album, which was being written/recorded at the same time as their fourth, has been temporarily put on hold to give the trio proper means to focus on building hype for the upcoming release. However, the band has expressed their desire for this promotional period to remain relatively brief; Dancing about Architecture will reportedly be released less than a month after it's completion.

Dancing about Architecture is a dramatic departure from Infinite's previous work, particularly with it's lyrics. Previous albums in the band's repertoire have always found the frontman looking outward for lyrical inspiration, and, as a result, typically consist of him reporting on the outside world. Quillington has always regarded his feelings as a taboo when it comes to writing, sticking with vague descriptions when personal opinions become an absolute necessity. And, yet, because of his strong desire to never make the same album twice, recording sessions for Infinite's fourth album forced him to confront his fear of self-revealing lyrics.

As a result, many of the songs are based on specific events in his life; 'Family Friendly Fun', for example, was written during the period of Jason Smith's disappearance. However, this record isn't meant to be viewed as one of individual moments, as the flow of the tracks has a thematic and purposeful feel to it. Although it wasn't recorded to be so, Dancing about Architecture is perhaps Infinite's first concept album.

More information, including the name of the track that will become the album's first single, is coming soon.

Eric Quillington wrote:
"While the majority of the album is very dark in tone, the final few songs are something else entirely. In the past, the endings to Infinite albums have been brutally bleak. Midnight Skies' 'Another Sunset', for example, contrasts suicide with the act of falling asleep. Dancing about Architecture has a very different final bow. For once, there's no cynicism of the happier aspects in life; it's all shown through a joyous filter. I didn't know I was capable of writing something like that."

Eight days after it's completion..

Following a brief hiatus from recording music, as Infinite have been enjoying personal pursuits in addition to touring with Mind, their fourth album is now ready to be released. Entitled Dancing about Architecture, it's lyrical and musical structures are considered by the band to be a radical departure from their previous work. Focusing more on introspective themes and simple, acoustic soundscapes, it's a vastly different world than the one documented on Insomnia. Ironically enough, it's thematic elements carry this so called 'simple collection of songs', as Eric Quillington described it, into the territory of concept albums. Also; in perhaps it's only similarity with Insomnia, Infinite's fourth album comes with a deluxe bonus disc, featuring an audio recording of Infinite's performance at Wembley. This setlist is among the most acclaimed of 2011, and is considered by many to be the event that catapulted the alternative trio into super-stardom.

One more brief, interesting little tidbit of information; as Infinite's recording contract to Hot Eye Records was for two albums, the band is currently an available act. Until they sign on to a label, whether it be new or old, Dancing about Architecture will only be available in the format also initially used for Infinite's previous two albums; a free download. Any more news on the nature of the album will have to wait until it's release. Don't want to spoil the surprise, after all.

It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life

Amelia Florentine, aged 24, has been announced several days ago by Eric Quillington as a fourth member of Infinite. Since then, massive amounts of speculation from both fans and critics have been placed on what her specific duties in the band will be. Aside from Quillington calling her a 'fantastic keyboardist, vocalist, and songwriter', not much about her musical abilities have been revealed. Some believe that her place will be that of a touring member only, while others suggest that her unrevealed talents may find a place on Infinite's fifth album. Dancing about Architecture, it has been revealed, will still consist solely of the Quillington/Oldson/Roberts team.

Their next single, on the other hand, is another story entirely. Taking a leaf from the practice performed by many Sixties bands, such as the Beatles, the release will contain no songs taken from an LP. Says Quillington; "With a single, you only have the main track, and the B-side. It could be taken as two individual parts, or separate halves to a greater whole. For the first time, we're going to be experimenting with the latter option. To me, it's very intriguing. Hopefully I'm not the only one who thinks as such."

Infinite has admitted to feelings of incredible nervousness towards the release of single. It will be their first with a new record label, and a new member. "It's a test-run, to see if I have what it takes," Amelia says in her first official statement regarding her place in the band, "If it works, then the band's faith in me is justified. If not, then there's always next time. I, along with the other three, think it's important to take baby steps."

Following the release of this single, the remainder of Dancing about Architecture will be uploaded on a free file-sharing website called MonotonousConsistency.com. Although the name of the single's tracks haven't been announced, more information is expected to be released soon.

Ryan Ross Hernandez: I'm really interested in seeing where this concept with a fourth female member in Infinite goes. If done correctly, it could take the band to a whole new level. I don't want to use PANIC! as an example because I was part of the band, but what the hell I'm not exactly modest. I think at the height of the band, we perfected the art of stacking male and female vocals together, and toying around with different ideas. Either this is going to blow up the band in uncanny proportions or they're just going to piss off a whole lot of people who see Infinite just as the original trio.

On two quick side notes; first off, I want to thank you Eric, for paying me a shitload of money to produce Dancing about Architecture. Thanks for securing my place at the top of the Celebrity Forbes list, another year. In addition, I am glad I produced an album in which the newbie Amelia didn't take part in the recording sessions. Otherwise, I would have plowed the hell out of her in a sound booth. I'm such a professional, I know.

I, personally, am hoping this'll take the band to the next level. After building my career up for so long, it'd be such a shame to see it flounder. At least I wouldn't be the one to blame, as that distinction would fall to Amelia, who would become the 21st Century Yoko Ono. But, in all honesty, I have high hopes of this being a very positive influence on the band's future. It might just be my ego talking, but I'd consider this experiment a failure if it was anything less than a massive success.

You are quite welcome, my good sir, for helping you reach the top of Forbes. Be warned, though; I'm steadily rising up the list. Maybe someday there'll be a new king. Not to worry; in case you slip down the rankings, you could always produce another album for Infinite. It would be my honor.

[Lamenting Rinascita]

Genre; Psychedelic, Experimental
Length; 6:24
Label; Chaos Records
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Background

Infinite has never been a 'singles band', instead focusing all their efforts on LPs. Even their most iconic singles (such as 'Problems with Pluto' and 'Supernova') were released as mere afterthoughts, and had more to do with their record company than the band. Times change, however; with a new member joining the band, it was agreed upon that a single, rather than an entire album, would be the best way to introduce Amelia Florentine and her musical styles to the world. Inspired by the Beatles (a band who's influence is also apparent on the music of the single), Infinite decided that the single would not be taken from an album, and would instead be a standalone release.

A considerable amount of time has passed between the writing of the last single, and this one. 'Vague Similarities' was developed at a time when the band's primary lyricist, Eric Quillington, was still a rather shy frontman, one suspicious of the celebrity lifestyle he found himself immersed in. The soft spoken individual has long since shifted into something far more eccentric, so it would make sense that the music would undergo a similar evolution. While the music on Infinite's upcoming album Dancing about Architecture (one that will have no singles released from it, as it is meant to be viewed as a cohesive whole) remains the band's characteristic darkness, Quillington and Co. became interested in releasing a single of much more joyful melodies. The band had begun listening to the melodic tunes of such bands as U2 and Coldplay, and wanted to introduce these new influences into their music. Whether or not this new type of music will be adopted on future Infinite albums is anyone's guess.

Surprisingly for a band that has become so infamous for taking it's time with recording, 'Lamenting Rinascita' and it's B-Side were recorded in a period of just two weeks. This rapid change of pace has been attributed by Greg Oldson as being; 'Amelia kicking Matt, Eric, and I off the sofa any time we'd take a break from playing.' Instead of spending time developing concepts for the single's theme, they stumbled immediately on something Quillington had been messing around with. The final verse to the song was initially written by Eric to be on his developing solo album, but couldn't find a proper place for it. In the end, he agreed with the rest of the band that it would be better suited as a jumping-off point for the song-in-progress.

Melodic Composition

Infinite's ninth single opens with a guitar riff/solo by Eric Quillington. Although he had previously utilized a very subdued and simplistic way of playing the instrument, playing mostly chords and a few simple riffs, this song sees him playing in an entirely different way. The colorful, exuberant melody, played only on guitar, showcases a joyful side to Quillington most were unaware of. After a minute of this, Infinite's rhythm section joins in. Greg Oldson's drum beats, the first of several nods to the Beatles, are very hypnotic and drone-like. This, however, proves to be the only constant characteristic of the song; the sitar-like guitar riff fades away as a keyboard melody played by Amelia Florentine takes hold.

The verses, featuring only piano and vocals, seems very Coldplay-esque and balladic, something new for the band. During the chorus (the first in an Infinite tune for quite some time), the rhythm section returns, as does Quillington's Indian-influenced guitar playing. It's also during this section that Amelia Florentine makes her debut on vocals. She doesn't take center-stage, as many perhaps expected, but instead serves as harmony to Quillington's very familiar singing. The two lines manage to be both intimate and anthemic, and it's very easy to imagine a crowd of 100,000 singing along during future concerts. The universal meaning behind these words seem closer to bands like U2 than Infinite, but seems genuine nonetheless. At the end of the second refrain, Amelia's influence on the song shifts away, as the original trio become dominant once again. For the last minute and a half, Quillington's soft falsetto cries serve as the climax to the song without ever becoming over-the-top or self-indulgent. The guitar riff from the beginning also returns, bringing the song full circle. Everything slowly fades out as a conclusion is reached, while the already unusual-sounding guitar is played in reverse, serving as another homage to the greatest band in history.

Lyrics

"When we look back and laugh at the past, we can draw out our map towards future conquests
And we’ll bask in the glow of victory
When we run out of goals to fulfill, we can dig up the ground beneath our feet
And plant a wall to hide our possessions from the thieves
When we get tired of running, we can pick up the rocks with our hands
And we’ll build a sturdy home for two

As we shine, as we burn
As we radiate, the possibilities remain infinite for one lone moment

When there’s nothing in the future, we can dig up the memories of our past
And we’ll bask in the glow of nostalgia
When there’s nothing left to hide, we can dig up the ground beneath our feet
And we’ll hide the fragments of the walls between us
When there’s nowhere left to run, we can pick out the splitters in our hands
And I’ll build a wooden home for one

As we shine, as we burn
As we radiate, the possibilities remain infinite for one lone moment"

Thank you, Troy! Oh, I knew that we'd get burned alive by our fans if we made anything that's too radical of a departure from previous works. Still, where's the fun in making the same thing over and over again? Just look at Radiohead; each album is completely different than the last, and they still manage to beat their last album will each new release. I'd rather be like them than Bon Jovi, haha.

That'd be awesome! Maybe some sort of triple-date with Cassie and Jason along for the ride as well, once Amelia finds a boyfriend. And since the males seem to outnumber females 3 to 1 in this world of music, that really shouldn't take too long at all. Thank you, though; even if you weren't my girlfriend, I'd still call you one of the greatest lyricists around, so it's nice to receive compliments like that from you!

In an emotional performance at the Concert for Angel, Eric Quillington paid tribute to MattY and Cherise's daughter, the victims of 9/11, and Kestrel Wolfe. It wasn't all doom and gloom, however; melodic, joyful bands such as U2 and Coldplay, longtime influences to Quillington, were both covered. In fact, the list of covers outweighed the list of originals. In Eric's words; "I like playing other people's music more than my own. When I perform 'Problems with Pluto' or 'End and Begin', I can sense the flaws in the song. The lyrics might be more personal to me, as I wrote them, but there are always a few parts I'm embarrassed about. When playing something written by Chris Martin, I'm playing something perfect."

[Concert for Angel; Eric Quillington]

City of Blinding Lights (U2 Cover)

A lone figure takes the stage as deafening roars fills Hyde Park. Eric Quillington is, at this point in his career, an unquestionable superstar, so it comes as no surprise that this kind of reaction would be in response to one man. Without Greg Oldson and Matt Roberts at his side, however, he can’t help but look a tad bit lonely; he isn’t the only talented member in Infinite, and so many people have quiet doubts about whether or not he’ll be able to pull off a memorable (or even decent) concert by himself. Instead of introducing himself to the audience in a theatrical manner, as is his usual way of breaking the ice at a concert, Eric merely sits down at a piano and begins playing a tune familiar to those acquainted with U2. Written by Bono as a tribute to post-9/11 New York, it fits in well with a concert taking place exactly ten years after the tragic event.

"The more you see, the less you know
The less you find out as you go
I knew much more then than I do now
Neon heart day-glow eyes, a city lit by fireflies
They’re advertising in the skies for people like us

And I miss you when you’re not around, I’m getting ready to leave the ground
Oh, you look so beautiful tonight in the city of blinding lights"

Falling from the Sky

“Good evening, Hyde Park!” exclaims Eric, now comfortable enough to engage in a one-sided conversation with the massive crowd, “This is the part of the show where I’d typically introduce myself to the audience, and extend on a lengthy rant about what type of music I make, and what it means to me. But, this concert isn’t really centered around me, so I’ll spare you the ego-trip. But I will say this; although this is called the ‘Concert of Angel’, I feel as though it’s become much more universal than that. It’s still, of course, about the daughter a special couple will never have, but it’s also about what happened ten years ago today. And it’s about Kestrel Wolfe. This is a song called ‘Falling from the Sky’, and, from this moment onwards, I’ll be thinking about her whenever I sing it.”

With the cheers and applause from the audience in reaction to his words, the initial notes on the piano are drowned out. Once the music becomes audible, the crowd emulates a different type of noise, as a mass chorus replaces the outbursts of cheers. A melody about the aspects of Heaven is, naturally, fitting for a concert about a lost child, even if one lone line exposes Eric’s inner pessimism. As the song is from Midnight Skies, arguably the most joyful record Infinite has ever made, it seems as if it were made for such an event. As the lyric is, some would say, universal, each member of the mass sing-along recollects one specific event during the performance. Some think of the fallen during 9/11, some think of a daughter or son they’ll never be able to see. The man who penned the lyrics is, however, thinking of only one person.

“See the water flowing free, stretched across all that can be
Beauty lies in harmony, something in abundance here
We’ll stay here forever, where the stars are falling from the sky

All the endless days and nights, lying on a gold
Seagulls cry and the wind blows, all without a cloud in as sight
Nothing will be lost, yet nothing will be gained

We’ll live forever in this perfect light"

End and Begin/Strawberry Swing (Coldplay Cover)/Stand by Me (Ben E. King Cover)

“So, who to thank, who to thank…” Eric begins his final words to the audience, “Well, I don’t want to seem like a suck-up, but the list could go on for hours. So, I’ll keep it short; the people who threw this little shindig together, naturally. And, of course, the wonderful performers this evening. When I was a grungy teenager, I never even dreamed that I’d be on the same bill as GirlSpice. And, of course, the thousands of beautiful faces before me this evening. I’m also sorry for boring you all with the little piano ballads. It’s not as flashy as an Infinite concert, but I hope it’s a bit more meaningful.”

Once again, the reaction from the audience drowns out the noise emitted from the single piano. Smiling to himself in response, Eric merely keeps trickling out the notes until the secondary noises fade away. Live performances of this song with the full band of Infinite are typically a very chaotic experience, as they are meant to represent the feelings of anger and desperation over losing a loved one. This particular, stripped-down concert, however, is meant to represent a different side to grief; one of melancholy.

“Sifting through the bright lights and the haze
After all, it’s just a big maze
I can’t see the figures through the pulsing red
Been missing all the arguments and the fights
After all, it’s now so silent
I wish that we could talk about it

But there is really nothing I can do
The only way is to push through
And the worst is always hoping for more
Nursery rhymes won’t save a life that was lost"

The final line to ‘End and Begin’, although possessing emotional resonance, would be a depressing ending to an event intended by Eric to be much more positive. As such, he turns to another musical idol for closure. The words, admittedly, are also a bit of a downer, but fit in with the concert’s themes nonetheless. It’s the melody, in the end, that ends up carrying the positive energy. Coming from a man who prefers words over its accompanying music, it’s a surprising climax.

"The sky could be blue, could be gray
Without you, I just slide away
The sky could be blue, I don’t mind
Without you, it’s a waste of time"

Although he initially planned to say his last speech before the performance of ‘End and Begin’, he goes against the plan to say one final word, not to the audience, but to a specific individual, “MattY and Cherise, I cannot even begin to imagine or comprehend what you’re going through right now, but what I do know is this; you two have the strength of character to persevere.” After debating about whether or not it would be cheesy to start a crowd sing-along of ‘Stand by Me’, Eric, in the end, throws caution to the wind and prompts the audience to start by singing the first line. As he walks off the stage, the singing of 100,000 unified voices fills the air;

“No I won’t be afraid, no I won’t be afraid, just as long as you stand by me
And darling, darling…”

I was very worried people would find my performance too melancholy or serious. But, it wouldn't make much sense to play a bunch of pop tunes at such an event, right? Haha, anyways, thank you so much!

(Unnecessary introduction of the day. From left to right; Greg Oldson, Eric Quillington, Matt Roberts)

Last Friday, the track-by-track release of Dancing about Architecture concluded with the release of the final two tracks, 'Reality Becomes the Dream' and 'A New Circle' on the website MonotonousConsistency.com. Aside from being announced as the headlining band at the upcoming Chaos for Cancer Festival, the only rumored performance the band will be playing is one at an unspecified arena or stadium next month. This will, apparently, be the 'sequel' to Infinite's legendary performance at Wembley, and is reported to be the band's most ambitious one-off concert to date. Nothing, at the moment, is concrete, but Matt Roberts hinted that the setlist 'could be up to 30 songs'. Whether or not he was kidding is open to speculation. More concrete announcements, such as where this in-development concert will take place, will be coming soon.

Other than this, the members of Infinite will spend the next 2-3 months pursuing individual interests. As Eric Quillington has always been the most recognizable and iconic figure in the group, it comes as no surprise that his goals are the most public. An upcoming movie has been confirmed, one that he will make alongside the equally famous Glamazon, of whom he has been dating for quite some time. Although it has been announced that the film will be a double-feature similar to the Rodriguez/Tarantino film Grindhouse, not much is known about the plot. What is known, however, is that the soundtrack will feature the likes of the Jason Smith Band (of whom Matt Roberts also belongs to) and Troy Mascenon (a longtime musical idol of Infinite's frontman). In regards to his own music, Quillington has announced that he has begun work on an EP. The songs, according to the singer/songwriter, will be much more rooted in rock music, and will feature more traditional verse/chorus/verse forms, than most of Infinite's repertoire. As the singer has maintained strong relationships with musicians over the years, fans speculate that appearances from musicians such as Jason Smith and Ryan Ross Hernandez are likely. While Quillington joked that the title of the EP will be An Overdue Vacation from Oldson, the actual name or tracklisting of this project hasn't been revealed. This might be due to the fact that he hasn't actually recorded anything for it yet.

The group's drummer, Greg Oldson, who has always been the 'quiet' member of Infinite, has also announced plans of his own. He will be recording several songs with Amelia Florentine, the talented keyboardist who has been confirmed by the band to be appearing on future albums. Whether or not these songs will make it to Infinite's fifth album, or will a part of something else entirely, remains to be seen. However, the drummer has claimed that the public will be able to hear some of the tracks "by the end of October". Matt Roberts, the band's bassist, has perhaps the most relaxed schedule out of his bandmates. Not exactly known for being a prolific songwriter, he instead plans on spending this semi-hiatus travelling the world and touring/recording with the Jason Smith Band when required.

Infinite doesn't plan on waiting too long before beginning work on a fifth album. The sessions that yielded Dancing about Architecture spawned other, unreleased material, which the band is set on developing once they reunite in late November/early December. This will be the first full-length release with Amelia Florentine, who had made her debut with the band in the single 'Lamenting Rinascita'. A new and exciting future is unfolding for one of the biggest bands in the world.

"I want you to know that you don't need me anymore
I want you to know that you don't need anyone or anything at all
Who's to say where the wind will take you, who's to say what will break you?
I don't know which way the wind will blow
Who's to know when the time has come around?
Don't wanna see you cry, because I know that this is not goodbye"

- U2 'Kite'

The first hiatus undertaken by Infinite already seems to be yielding surprisingly lucrative results for the band. Of course, the term 'hiatus' might be stretched a tiny bit in this particular case, as two members have been working on several experimental tracks for the past few weeks. Holed up in a makeshift studio, Greg Oldson and Amelia Florentine have thus far made seven, and claim that each of them could be built up to a song worthy of release. One track in particular, featuring the bass-playing of Matt Roberts, is already showing potential. The band has referred to this particular track, entitled "In_aCage_Pt5", as the skeleton to a song that might be a standalone release, similar to 'Lamenting Rinascita'. The song, which will be credited to the new songwriting team of Oldson/Florentine/Roberts, is expected to be released by October 31st. What it will sound like, and what it's final title may be, is still a mystery. All that Amelia has to say about it is, "It's going to sound like it's release date."

Now that Dancing about Architecture, the last Infinite album to have the 'classic trio' has been released, Amelia Florentine has taken the opportunity to begin a much-anticipated introduction to the band's fans. The standalone single 'Lamenting Rinascita' was but a sample of what she has to offer, and her musical talents and interests will be fully exposed to the public over the next few months. When asked by a reporter what this unproven keyboardist's future role would be within the band, Eric Quillington hinted towards something that might prove to be a shock for most. While on the set for Glamazon's new film, he said;

"She's not an addition, she's a replacement. She's David Gilmore, and I'm Syd Barret."

"The time is gone, the song is over
Thought I had something more to say.."

- Pink Floyd; 'Time'

"She's not an addition, she's a replacement," Eric Quillington said yesterday, referring to both his and Amelia's current stasis in the legendary band. This cryptic comment has, naturally, sparked a furious debate among Infinite fans, many of whom expressing shock (and even outright anger) at the prospect of the singer being replaced by a virtual unknown. After all, if any member of Infinite would be deemed the most important, Quillington would earn the title by a longshot. But his worth comes through indirect ways, and may be surprising to those who expect the frontman's domination of the band to be utterly complete. He isn't the most musically talented member of Infinite (that distinction belongs, arguably, to Greg Oldson), or the one who's written most of the melodies to the band's classics (again; Oldson). Eric has simply been the primary lyricist for the band's entire existence. In fact, every song on Dancing about Architecture features lyrics written solely by him. Because of this, he's often viewed as the heart and soul of Infinite. How could this band exist without such a unique entity, one that could never be replaced?

Well, the world is about to find out. Today, the once-frontman has finally confirmed that Infinite's next album is to be his last with the band that made him a superstar. Afterwards, the songwriting team of Oldson, Florentine, and Roberts will take over. Those nervous about what this means for both the band's sound and legacy might be reassured to know that they will be getting a taste of this new trio when the new standalone single is released on October 31st. Because it seems as though the band's hiatus has morphed into something else; the beginning of the band's breaking off from Eric Quillington. Amelia, Greg, and Matt have been working diligently on the recording of this new song for the past few weeks, while Eric is currently working on a film collaboration with Glamazon. Many have viewed his relationship with the pop-star, alongside his close friendships with other celebrities such as Jason Smith, as a motivation for his departure. But this is, ultimately, an unreasonable accusation.

"It has nothing to do with who I'm friends with, or who I'm dating," Eric said to a reporter, "I've just been overshadowing the other, more talented members of Infinite for too long. And I'm sick of feeling so guilty about it. If leaving the band is what it takes for them to fly, so be it." While this reason makes perfect sense, given Eric's constant, but often futile, attempts to shine the spotlight on his fellow bandmates, many are wondering if there is a more sinister undertone to recent events. Rumors have recently circulated about whether or not the singer is as healthy as he appears. His personal doctors had nothing to say on the matters, while Matt Roberts dismissed the notion as 'bullshit', but the rumors still persist. The question of whether or not this is true will, hopefully, be answered this upcoming Tuesday, as Eric's managers have confirmed that he will be making a full press announcement about more specific details on his departure from Infinite. Amelia, meanwhile, has landed a cover story from SPIN Magazine, and will most likely use the opportunity to express her ideas and goals for Infinite. The future is a mystery, save for one, comforting bit of knowledge; Eric Quillington, Greg Oldson, Matt Roberts, and Amelia Florentine will all be on Infinite's fifth album. After that, it's a new beginning.

Glamazon: I can honestly say that I did not see this coming, it's a shame, but I will respect Eric's decision in whatever he does... well, most things at least, I understand people have to move on and venture into new things. Either way, I most definitely look forward to hearing the material Infinite produce after the next album without Eric, they're all wonderfully talented and I'm sure they'll be just fine. Deep down, I think Eric's just doing all of this so he has all the free time in the world to do that wild Vegas show with me. ;)

Josh: Well, even know the loss of Eric is sad and disappointing, i am 100% sure Infinite will carry on in a strong, powerful fashion; at least i hope. At the same time though, i respect Eric's decision and look forward to hearing more of his material in the future.
