Glamazon: I don't know why, but I love how Eric is now calling me Victoria instead of Glamazon. Eric is the only man in my life who will come before Alex, now that's saying something, right? I must also ban him from saying that he's dying in the next ten years. I don't like it. The only chance of that happening is if he was to cheat on me and that will be the end of it. ;) Wonderful interview so far though, lover!

"Oh, poor Atlas, the world’s a beast of a burden
You’ve been holding on a long time
All this longing, and the ships are left to rust
That’s what the water gave us
So lay me down, let the only sound be the overflow"

- Florence and the Machine, 'What the Water Gave Me'

The Beatles have, without a doubt, cast a shadow over almost everything they've ever done. Mono-colored album covers, psychedelia, zebra-crossings, etc. But, perhaps the most patented, Beatlesque cornerstone of their legend is the rooftop concert. Any band playing at such an event instantly draws parallels to the Fab Four, whether intentional or not. But that intimidating tidbit hasn't stopped modern-day acts from letting loose on the tops of buildings, illegally or otherwise. Last night, the latest group joined the ranks of those braving the fierce winds and high elevations. It was, however, unannounced, leading to some confusion when Amelia Florentine's voice began to boom out across Time's Square. Despite all the hoopla over her joining Infinite, she is still something of an unknown in comparison to her more famous bandmates. But all that seems likely to change in the next few months; like that other singer in Infinite, Amelia Florentine is a highly theatrical individual, and knows how to make a hell of an entrance. As a bright yellow light beckons out from the top of a skyscraper overlooking the famous avenue, Amelia's a capella singing cuts through the air, loud and pure. Just as her voice fades out at the end of the song, several of the screens in Times Square flickered over to the location of the singing, and Infinite's most ambitious concert begins.

"D'you have any idea how fucking expensive it is to borrow the fucking screens in Times Square?" one of the most famous frontman of recent memory sarcastically asked the exponentially expanding crowd below, "Probably not. But it's expensive. Like, 'all-royalties-from-last-album' expensive. So we're going to be quick about this, and then get out of your hair so the stock-brokers can get back to Wall Street". While most wouldn't recognize Amelia Florentine in a crowd, Eric Quillington is another matter. From the moment his face is shown on the screens, those in the streets below begin cheering rapturously. But it's not just a collaboration between Amelia and Eric; for the first time, all four members of Infinite played live. And although it wasn't a typical performance, the 6-song setlist still gave the reincarnated Infinite the new start they had been hinting at for quite some time now. As this was a new Infinite, it made sense that the music, and very identity, of the band would be similarly different. If Infinite wanted to shy away from any comparisons to the legendary Fab Four, it certainly never came across that way. Quite the contrary, in fact; with Quillington, Florentine, and Oldson all proving to be powerful singers, the melodies of the songs took on a new life. But it was Amelia that proved to be the most charismatic singer, which is saying something when in the company with Eric Quillington. Indeed, she was the one who wound up singing the vast majority of the songs, with Infinite's former lead singer more willing to fall back on solely playing guitar and occasionally providing harmonies. But this was in no way a negative thing; with Amelia's personality shining through, the once angsty, brooding, Radiohead influenced band became far more optimistic and uplifting. With all songs taken from the recent album Dancing about Architecture, Infinite's past was ignored in favor of a bright, optimistic look at the future.

"There will be plenty of time to iron out the wrinkles," Amelia sings during the final song, perfectly comfortable in her new position within the band, "You and I are living in a perfect world."

Glamazon: I'm fucking jealous of everyone who got to see that live on the screens in Times Square... the poor souls must have been freezing, but it'd be worth it, just for the whole atmosphere there. My wonderful black fur coat would have been put to good use for an occasion like that. ;(

Ryan Ross Hernandez: I must say, while Eric Quillington is... well, Eric Quillington. I feel that Amelia could carry the torch if need be it one day. While I am excited to hear the final album with the original line-up, I'm also looking forward to see what happens with this band when Amelia becomes the face of it. Both musically and career wise, I've recently become obsessed with studying career patterns of artists for some reason. Anyways. Infinite is still the best band in the world right now.

A Special Announcement from the humble Eric Quillington...

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME GODAMN CHRISTMAS CAROLS?!!

"... is what I said during last year's Christmas message, causing a great deal of people to label me as a megalomaniac. Mostly because I used the words 'fucking', 'greatest', 'revolutionary', and 'genius' when describing the charity single we were releasing. And I also referred to Greg Oldson as 'my one-night stand's brother'. So there's that. In my defense, all of this was before I met Glamazon. I'd like to think that, after all the trials and events of this year, I'm a much better person. Live and learn, right? In fact, I'd like to think that this was the best year of my life. Which is comforting, as I've heard that most people's lives go downhill after 18. But, I'm 25 now, and the downward slide hasn't started yet. Which might surprise some of you, due to the whole 'diagnosed with Huntington's' thing, but... honestly, I think it's a fair price to pay. I behaved like an asshole for the better part of six or seven months, so it's only fair that something would bring me back down to earth. But illness and a horrible future isn't exactly what I'm trying to convey with this message. Christmas is a time of warmth and joy, but, perhaps most interestingly, it also gives one a chance to look back on all the successes (and failures) of the past year. And I've had more than my fair share in both categories.

My year started simply enough; a haircut. I almost feel bad for Metallica; back when they released Load (of Shit), they sheared off their mullets for a more Conservative look. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but then all the 'metal-heads' started complaining and whining about how their heroes had sold-out. This is all kind of funny to me, because nobody even batted an eye when I went through a similar, radical change. For most of the period that consisted of Infinite's first and second albums, I was this grease ball with long, unkempt hair. If anything, I would've fit in with the grunge-era perfectly. Nirvana, Soundgarden, etc. But, nowadays, I can comb my hair without a waterfall of grease pouring out. And that just feels fucking sublime. I bet my girlfriend would appreciate it if she knew me before the new 'do. But it's just great to have actual fans like you guys; I can go from a Kurt Cobain wannabe to a Matt Bellamy wannabe, and nobody will accuse me of selling out. It takes a drug-fueled stay at the Big Brother house to finally be accused of that, right?

Despite what most may think, there's actually more to my life than a hedonistic approach to psychedelics. After all, people typically don't become famous without doing worthwhile things first. Well, y'know, excluding the obvious figures. It's weird to think about it now, but I started this year as a genuine musician. Greg and Matt, too... all three of us, and Insomnia represents that perfectly. Despite what some may think, as I'm often the one whoring all the attention for myself, Infinite really was a band, and I'm so glad to have been a part of this magic throughout the year. From the @Chaos Awards to the first encounter with Amelia, all of it was the making-of-legend material. But, nothing mattered to me as much as Wembley did. It was the first time we had ever broken through on an international level, and the final moments before I lost my head. Just one last moment of innocence before the insanity, and I loved it, every second. None more so than when Mr. Hernandez joined the stage, of course. It might seem a bit shallow, but I've been judging the success of my career on how he views my work. So, to have him appearing on stage with me was just... a beautiful confirmation of a breakthrough. And if there's one word I can use to describe this year, 'breakthrough' would be it.

And so the message ends with this; the here and now, naturally. I'm writing this in a castle, as impossible as it sounds. Well, it's probably more of a 'mansion' than anything, but my girlfriend's sense of style makes it seem a tad bit more gothic and magnificent than the typical starlet's home. Then again, nothing about my life is typical, and I'm so glad for it. Victoria (or Glamazon, whichever), Jason (themanthesmiththelegend), Matt ('thankfullynotgreg' Roberts), Amelia (thenextbigthing), Ryan (onlyguywithabiggeregothanmyself), Troy (andallofyourbrilliance) ... stay classy. To the rest of you; forget what the inspirational movies say. The Holidays will always be about gifts. Disown anybody that doesn't get you what you wanted. Merry Christmas. -EQ

2011 in Retrospective

Power corrupts. And absolute power corrupts absolutely. This year, nobody learned that lesson better than Eric Quillington. Amid the prestige, acclaim, and awards bestowed upon the band following Insomnia, he suffered a very public fall from grace (or sobriety), of which he is only now recovering. But, beneath the scandals, there was the music. And beneath the music is one of the most intriguing modern day rock-and-roll stories. And all of it was kick-started by a friendship with a metal legend.

[I'm ready for the laughing gas ;; ProjectPrometheus and Insomnia]

Kurt Cobain once said that the happiest time for a band occurs in the months before the big breakthrough. Looking back at their final moments of pre-fame, Infinite would likely agree with his words. Or they would, if they could pinpoint exactly when this moment was for them. It might have been before the mainstream breakthrough afforded to them by Insomnia, but in all likelihood it was the moments prior to the release of their debut album. When the record, Blue Nebula, was released in 2010, they were heralded by many critics as the 'new saviors of guitar rock', much in the way that other indie acts such as Arctic Monkeys and Franz Fernandez had with their debut albums. This almost comical amount of critical hyperbole was initially received graciously by the trio, as they had spent years of obscurity labelled as a 'gimmick', due to frontman Eric Quillington's eccentric behavior onstage. But the grungy, angsty anthems of 'Supernova', 'Fusion Paranoia', and 'Occam's Razor' brought the band a fervent, dedicated following. And yet, there were some labels that the band couldn't shake off. Many dismissed the band as 'Radiohead-lite', similarly to Muse and Coldplay's initial reception, due to Eric Quillington's many vocal and lyrical similarities to Thom Yorke. For the sake of self-preservation, Infinite realized they would have to evolve (or move on from) the occasionally one-dimensional style of their debut album. Thus, Midnight Skies was crafted and released later that same year. A markedly more upbeat album, it drew lyrical influences from lucid dreams and religious doubt, and took musical inspiration from the uplifting anthems of U2. "They accused us of ripping off Thom Yorke, so we decided to steal Bono's ideas the second time around," Quillington joked. But the radical change worked wonders, impressing both critics and fans. While Infinite was still overshadowed by such bands as Reckoner and Mind, they nonetheless ended 2010 as one of the most acclaimed and promising young bands in Britain.

Having landed on the Moon, Infinite then took their ambitious sights to the stars as 2011 entered it's first month. But it wasn't Infinite itself that first drew large attention, but the singer. Throughout the following year, Eric Quillington had formed a close friendship with fellow singer/guitarist Jason Smith, of Mind fame, when the legendary metal musician produced Midnight Skies. Their friendship proved strong enough to merit a musical collaboration, and the two dedicated some time to crafting an album, Dividing Divinity, that has not yet been released to the public. This came at an unfortunate time, however, due to the dissolution of Mind that same month. Many fans of the band, logically, claimed that Eric Quillington was proving to be a poisonous influence on their hero. But Mind wasn't the only domino to fall; around the same time, Reckoner, whom Quillington has always referred to as his favorite modern band, disbanded. "We won by default," Eric has since said, bitterly, "We only became famous because all the other British bands had quit". But if it was a cheap victory, it was at least a deserved one. Insomnia, released the following month, found the band showered with praise. Quillington was no longer 'the man who broke up Mind'; indeed, none of the previous, negative labels stuck to the band. Their third album, a schizophrenic, classical-influenced record that completely abandoned any traditional verse/chorus/verse structures, brought forth a level of praise rarely seen. Infinite had become the biggest band in the world.

[Even better than the real thing ;; Wembley Stadium and superstardom]

"When Ryan Ross Hernandez walked on that stage, that was it," Matt Roberts has since said about Infinite's now-legendary Wembley gig, "Forget the fuckin' hype, forget the fuckin' record sales. If someone like that feels comfortable walking around with my shit band... well, that's gotta mean something, you know?" In many ways, that concert has become something more than just a two-hour performance at a stadium; it's the moment of becoming. As they played for a mass gathering of adoring fans, Infinite proved, once and for all, that they were worthy of whatever praise came their way. Shunning their past as 'Radiohead wannabes' by ignoring all songs from their Blue Nebula period, they focused on the tunes from their second and third albums. In the process, they reshaped their previous image of angsty rockers into a surprisingly uplifting anthemic rock band. Radiohead meets U2, light meets darkness... a shocking, jarring mixture, but one that works nonetheless. For every bitter moment of 'How to Disturb and Alienate Others', there is the contrasting, complementary moment of 'Phase 3'. It was the final words that summed up this mixture the best, a line that has come to define Infinite and all that they do; 'Look up to the Midnight Skies, see life as it should be'.

In the past, success had meant respect from both peers and fans. Success was intangible, but often achieved nonetheless. By the release of Insomnia, success had become much more material and concrete. Typically for a band to have broken so massive, Infinite spent the next several months settling into their new high flying lifestyle, and scoring glamorous girlfriends. Greg and (especially) Matt have become notorious for their feminizing lifestyles, while Eric Quillington found a lasting romance with Glamazon, one of the few pop stars in the world genuinely more famous than himself. However, in a world where today's famous, happy couple is tomorrow's sex scandal, 'Quillingzon' has proven to last. "It's genuine," said Quillington several months after they announced the relationship, "fame and wealth only factored in initially, because we probably would never have met each other if we hadn't been thrust into these extraordinary situations. It's just like with Jason; there's so much more for us to talk about than just music. Her and I have spent more time watching shitty B-movies than going to luxury restaurants. There's just more to life, y'know?" The genuine connection between Quillington and Glamazon was reflective of the relationship between Infinite and their fans; despite the overwhelming success of recent months, they hadn't lost touch with the fanbase that had supported them to the top. This love was confirmed when Infinite was voted the Best Band and Best Live Act, with Insomnia also announced as Best Album, at both the Birdies and the @Chaos Awards. For a few precious months, everything was in it's right place.

[Sliding down the surface of things ;; Dancing while the world burns]

"Ladies and Gentlemen, it is your lord and master; Eric Quillington. The Quixotic, the Chosen One, the last son of Krypton...." the singer said to the baffled crowd during the Field Day Festival, beginning a slow decent that would last for the next few months. As the old truism goes, all that glitters is not gold. While Infinite was still one of the biggest bands in the world, they were no longer the most important; that moniker had fallen to Riot! In The Boulevard. They were now untouchable, but many had begun to feel as though their moment of glory had already come. Matt Roberts, for instance, once pessimistically regarded the band as an 'irrelevant relic' during an interview. In a scenario all-too-familiar to many rock bands in the same position, a feeling of inertia had settled around the band. The creative sparks that were so easy to find during Insomnia were now scattered, harder to find. And so, Infinite settled into the summer recording their fourth album, while the world continued to turn in their absence.

When they finally begun to resurface, the most dramatic change wasn't the new music they were promoting, but Quillington himself. His wide-eyed, joyful stare had turned to steel, while his interviews included reckless, often arrogant, rants. Many pointed to his increasingly public drug habits as the responsible factor for such a transformation, but in reality it was his recent diagnosis with Huntington's disease, a genetic disease that he had been fearful of inheriting for most of his adult life. But his pain and bitterness at going down the same path as his mother was kept entirely to himself, with only his fellow band-mates aware of his inner turmoil. Beginning to understand that his eventual end might now be in clear sight, Eric began living as though the 'twice as bright, half as long' saying was a personal truth. While on the Big Brother show, he completely slid into the abyss; any trace of the young, thoughtful man behind Insomnia was replaced by a raving lunatic. But it wasn't just the drug-consumption that alienated fans; while on the show, Eric displayed an usual, almost alien persona. He treated Jason Smith's on-screen relationship dilemmas with a cold, shocking indifference, and was voted as the 'Craziest' by viewers after his departure. After spending so much time moving on from his initial tag as a gimmick, Eric had fallen back into the old trap. Amid this controversy, a new record by Infinite seemed like an irrelevance. And yet, Dancing about Architecture was released all the time, in markedly different circumstances than its predecessor had. The innocent, pure Infinite of the past was gone, swept away in a matter of months. The music reflected this perfectly; it was a return to the gritty, distorted music textures of Blue Nebula, but with a new-found lyrical focus on emotional truths. It was soul searching to the greatest degree, with Eric Quillington finally focusing on his own faults and flaws after spending so much time distracting himself with the world outside his window. While Dancing about Architecture didn't have the cultural impact of it's predecessor, it still won broad praise by fans and critics, and proved to listeners that a genuine artist lived beneath the crazed facade that Quillington had been putting on for so long.

[Light my way ;; Amelia Florentine takes the helm]

After laying so many of his demons bare during the past few months, Quillington shocked and surprised the world with the announcement of his last, biggest secret. Due to Huntington's increasing interference with his cognitive and mental abilities, Amelia Florentine (the previously confirmed 'fourth member' of Infinite who had played on standalone single Lamenting Rinascita) was more than just a new addition. She's a replacement. Since this announcement, Infinite has been keeping quiet, focusing on the production of their fifth album, one reported to be Quillington's last with the band. Light in Motion will indeed be, as the band has hinted, a double LP, in order to properly give Eric Quillington the exit he deserves. Harmonies will be a massive focal point, as Quillington, Oldson, and Florentine all have capable voices. It will also be, according to the band, a return to the anthemic, uplifting soundscapes of Midnight Skies. Following the release date of the album, which is currently unknown, Quillington says he will bow out of the band that made him a superstar. Although many have raised doubts over whether or not Infinite can survive without the man who is, unarguably, their most important, most fans agree that the future will be an interesting prospect for the changing band, particularly the fan who has found herself as the new lead singer. "It'll be a new incarnation," Amelia says, "Like Eric described it, it's a regeneration. I'd never want to re-scale the heights that Eric led them to in the past, because it'd be so fake, so artificial. The Infinite led by Eric was one thing, and this future Infinite will be another. Whether we succeed or fail, I'll be happy so long as we make a creative effort. That's the most important thing, in the end."

[OOC: Just a nice little wrap-up of 2011, because I thought that'd be a nice thing to write about for my last post of the year. I've already planned out the major storyline that will take place over the first few months of 2012. Truthfully, I've planned it out from the moment I've joined the forum; it's what all these posts have been building up to. Most of you have probably already guessed what it'll be, as I've made it increasingly obvious over the past few months. But, to those who haven't; it'll be a doozy. I hope. See ya guys next year! And thanks to those who paid attention to my shit little ramblings over the past 12+ months; it means a lot.]

Jason: Fucking standard. 2011 has been a mixed year, but Eric... in fact, Infinite as a whole, have been one awesome constant.

OOC: I don't know how you can write so well. It's not fair :( Seriously though dude, this is great and, although I already know the storyline, I'm still really excited for it.

Ryan: I have a funny feeling the world is going to fall in-love with Amelia. Thus far she seems like everything the industry currently needs and with all-due respect to Eric, the legend that he is, Amelia may take Infinite to new heights.

OOC: Another good read man. Looking forward to the climax of this RP!

Ryan Ross Hernandez: 2011 was a wild year for Infinite. A highlight of mine was playing Wembley Stadium with Infinite, because odds are I'm never going to headline a stadium show in the UK because Brits just don't want to catch on to me yet. I would have to predict that it will only get more interesting in 2012 for Infinite, when the final double LP with the old line-up is released and then seeing Florentine takes the reigns of the band.

Glamazon: It certainly has been an unforgettable year, but next year will be even better with what I'm expecting from Amelia. I will also strongly disagree about being more famous than Eric, but I'm not going to start a war over it, because it'll just go back-and-forth. If there's something that I've learnt during my time with Eric, it's that terrible movies will always beat going to the top restaurants in town. Why? Because it's absolutely hilarious. And I'm a fussy eater and 99% of the time, I'm going to complain about the food. ;)

OOC: Amazingly written, you never fail to impress!

OOC: Incredible job man. I gotta say, this is the first in depth read I've had since coming back, and you blew me away. The writing and character work is top notch, and to see dudes like you sticking around for so long and continuing to put out such impressive work is really inspiring. Keep it up, you're awesome!

Johnny: You guys definitely did have an up and down year. But so did we. Also just a heads up to you Mr. Quillington. If you are so inclined. We'd like you have you jam with us at our Christmas shindig this year. I'd also like to extend a Merry Christmas, Happy Solstice, Happy Hannukah, Happy Holidays, and a Happy Festivus out to all you people out there. Whatever it is you celebrate this time of year. Have it be a good one.

"I'm slightly tired of the theatrics," says Eric Quillington with surprising sincerity, "But that's probably what people come to our shows expecting to see. And I know it's my fault, so it's not like people can say I don't deserve being painted into a corner. It'd be beyond irritating for my big finale to be nothing but fireworks and strobe-lights... because that's what we did at our last show at Wembley. That was a victory lap; this is a farewell. But I'm worried that people will get a bit turned off if we just do a humble acoustic show. We have to find a balance, I suppose, but I just... I want something a bit more intimate for this last show. I don't want to end my career on an empty gesture."

Surprising sentiments for a man recently voted to be the 'Craziest' member on the Big Brother show. But, these days, the frontman has a more weathered and matured outlook on the world than he lets on. As Eric Quillington's final year with Infinite begins, so too do his last two projects with the band he carried to the top of the world. The first is, naturally, the return to Wembley that has been hinted at for the past several months. With a setlist reported to stretch into the reaches of 25 to 30 songs, it is intended to be a swansong for Quillington. The second project, then, will be one of transition. The details of Infinite's fifth album, a double LP entitled Light in Motion, has been kept under wraps for the past while, but all that has changed with the start of the new year. The band has begun to talk more candidly about the sound and nature of the record, as well as it's overriding concept. "Double albums are typically regarded as a pure expression of egotism," explains Greg Oldson with a voice that has grown ever more raspy and ragged due to chain-smoking and other lifestyle choices, "which is why we've never done one in the past. We prefer to express our egos through interviews and other such methods of publicity, y'know? But it's the final album with Eric, and so he just wanted to bring everything left in his mind to the table. All his ideas, however small or fragmented, were dug up... nothing was off-limits. He's been working on this storyline that he wanted to reserve for a solo album, but rather graciously agreed to let us use it on 'Light in Motion'. It was a fantastic starting point."

This comes after years of avoiding the beast known as the concept album. While all previous albums, with the possible exception of Insomnia, have an overall theme and message, none are totally and utterly driven by a storyline and plot in the way an album by Mind or Pink Floyd would be. But this concept album comes with a twist. Although most records in this genre have theatrical, otherworldly plotlines, Light in Motion contains a simple story of the human experience, from life and death. At least, the first half will. "The second disc deals with the afterlife," says Eric Quillington in his inimitable, charismatic way of ranting, "Which is something we've never really done before. We've addressed the idea before, sure... but, never this directly. It's always, 'oh, there might be something, might be nothing'. Infinite's probably the most agnostic band in history, and our music has always been representative of that. But this album deals with Heaven and Hell, and focuses primarily on the divide between them. During one of those rare childhood visits to a church, I was told something that's stuck with me for all my life. Some people believe that, in Heaven, your mind is wiped of all memories of the people who went to Hell, in order for you to not feel guilt or remorse. To me, that's the ultimate Divine Comedy. The price of paradise is forgetting the loved ones who were left behind. So the second half of 'Light in Motion' deals with the ramifications that would have on a marriage where one goes to heaven, one goes to hell. The Damned One isn't going to forget anything; it's not like the devil or whoever's in charge down there would really care about the inconvenience."

The release date of Light in Motion is currently undecided, as work on the album is still underway. However, the band has admitted that it probably won't be released before their Wembley gig. However, a few of the new songs will be played at the concert. To make sure the crowd reaction isn't one of bafflement, several Light in Motion tracks will be available for download on Supernova.net, starting in the next few weeks. For Eric Quillington, the time has come for the grand finale. But, thankfully, it's only the beginning for Amelia Florentine. Both will play at Wembley, for one lasting moment of unity before the climactic regeneration.

Synxhard's, in particular, because it's so great to have you back, mate! But, I've made it something of a New Year's resolution to be more receptive and appreciative of any comments, because they all mean so much to me. Lily: I myself prefer theatrics when it comes to performing shows but then again nothing really beats just playing a simple show and still connecting with your fans. I think it's a lot more commendable and harder work to keep the audience's attention without the use of lights and lasers and stuff. I've never seen you guys play live but I may have to see how Infinite will cope.

Due to the fact that I've never hidden my Freddie Mercury complex, it should be obvious to everyone how much I love theatrical performances. So, yeah, I completely agree with everything you've said. I still think there'll be fireworks coming out of my ass and whatnot during the show, but hopefully we can show off a more mature and intimate side of things towards the end. If that's even possible, haha. I would love to have you at the concert, though, m'dear; the more, the merrier.

Never seen it in practice? Well, this cannot pass. You need to come to the Wembley Concert, my friend. I'll show you how it's done. In the non... hands-on approach. You're just gonna be watching from the crowd, if that's cool.
