Vanity's comeback single "Beautiful Mistake" sees the pop icon back to what she does best; merging meaningful, heartfelt lyrics with a powerful beat that's for sure going to turn heads, with thanks to production by mega-producers Buzz & Hype. However, this time Vanity is seen in a way never seen before as the experimental electronic lead single to her upcoming album is definitely something that probably most weren't expecting, if you're hoping for a typical club track with lyrics about putting your hands in the air, you may be left feeling just a tad disappointed. Instead, "Beautiful Mistake" is full of dreamy synths and haunting cries in the background that all fit in strangely well with the pulsing electronic beat and Vanity's distorted vocals that gives the song a cold, mysterious feel.
Lyrically, Vanity's comeback single deals with the recent decision that she had to face, whether or not to abort the baby she was pregnant with due to being raped by her now arrested manager, Steven Bryans. Speaking on the topic of the song, Vanity commented, "It's a controversial song topic, some people don't want to hear about this stuff, a lot of people don't want their children to listen to such stuff either. I just feel that it shouldn't be a topic to shy away from, these things happen, and if we don't start raising awareness of it, then you'll wake up one day after a terrible night, pregnant with a baby you don't want and you'll feel really fucking lonely like I did."
"I'm so grateful to Buzz & Hype for taking some time out of their busy schedule to work on this track with me, once I had heard about them, I was so eager to jump in the studio with them, they're incredible. I told them exactly what I wanted, the mood, the feel, and we just worked together from there, and I really couldn't think of a better outcome of the song."
(Sounds like)
"Beautiful Mistake"
Without a heart, but you were still so close Would've been capable of so many things Baby, you could have been a superstar In life, we all strive to get somewhere far Baby, please don't blame me for what I did I didn't mean for any of this to happen I'm just trying to sort out all of this mess Believe me, this is for the best Your father would have caused you much distress
Pictures in my head of a face I've never seen I would have strugged so much to look into those big eyes So sweet, so innocent, you could have had it all They say we live and forget, and I don't have any regrets But in fifty years time, you'll be on my mind And no where to find
I've never known the meaning of bittersweet till now I'm blessed by an angel and carrying the devil I suffocate, I cry, and he penetrates Causing nothing but a beautiful, beautiful mistake You could have been great, but I let you escape My beautiful, beautiful mistake
I know one day I'm gonna hold something like you When the time comes, I know my feelings will be true Forgive me, just know that it's not your fault Baby, what are you even called? I did what I had to do and all out of love And even though you weren't exactly sent from above The devil has his victims, I guess I was just unlucky And without you, I'm a step closer to my recovery Don't blame yourself, you're the true victim in all of this Oh, what I'd do to give you my first and final kiss
When I was a little girl, I dreamt of many things Nice guy, a baby or two and a wedding ring We're all naïve until we find out what life brings For a sense of normality, I'd trade all the materialistic things I don't want the money, house, cars Cigars, electric guitars, Harper's Bazaar Take it all away, I'd smile I don't want your child
I've never known the meaning of bittersweet till now I'm blessed by an angel and carrying the devil I suffocate, I cry, and he penetrates Causing nothing but a beautiful, beautiful mistake You could have been great, but I let you escape My beautiful, beautiful mistake
