Biography

Josh Meyer (born December 27th 1982, aged 29) is a classical crossover artist originating from Greenwich, Connecticut in the USA. Meyer is better known as one of the world's most powerful super producers, but has decided to make a return to the world of releasing music, going back to his roots where soulful ballads and jazzy piano tracks littered the early career of a highly skilled multi-instrumentalist.
Meyer was born to Francis and Elizabeth Meyer is Greenwich in 1982, enjoying a rather privileged upbringing, through which he was a keen learner of an array of different musical instruments. From a very early age, Meyer played recorder, before moving onto flutes and oboes throughout his schooling. It was when he was 8-years old however that Meyer would find what he would later describe as his true calling in life; the piano. From the age of 8, Meyer would be an avid learner of piano, in which he would later achieve a degree, and become well known as one of the best known young classical musicians in the country.

After leaving school, Meyer went on to study musical performance at a top university, graduating first in his class and earning many plaudits from both state-wide and country-wide recitals, at which he excelled, particularly impressing with various renditions of Bach and Beethoven pieces.During this time, he also became president of the college's operatic society, in which he was also the lead pianist, taking over the writing of the score in most of the productions the group would undertake during his time at school. Following on from his Bachelor's Degree, Josh went straight back into education (a move which he admits was partially so that he could continue his work on writing the music for the operatic group of which he had become so fond) in order to study towards a Master's Degree in Musical Theory and Sound Production, which would later land him a quite lucrative career. Throughout his time at university, as well as mastering his piano and writing skills, Josh Meyer would also become proficient in trumpet, tuba, flute, guitar and minor percussion instruments.

Having left school, Josh Meyer would leave home in 2002, at the tender age of just 20, taking himself to an apartment in New York City, from where he planned to release his debut album, a movewhich he believed would see him catapult into stardom. Despite being a very modest person in general life, Meyer always had one thing to be confident over, and that was his ability to create top class high-brow music. And so it was that after three months of tireless work in a studio he had built of his own accord in his front room, Josh Meyer released his debut album Wandering in the Mist in August of 2002. It was a swirling, strange sort of mix of different kinds of music, ranging from deeply neo-classical piano pieces with no lyrics, to odd sort of jumbled jazz tracks. It would later be described as "a confused effort" by the NME, while Rolling Stone said: "There is no doubt that this guy has talent, but it's a waste of your talent to spread yourself out so widely." In the end, with album sales reflecting the less than favourable reviews, Josh Meyer's fledgling music career was finished before it had even begun.

From there on in, Meyer would concentrate his efforts on becoming a producer to some of the top stars in the industry. Apparently feeling burned by his only attempt at reaching the top, he would tell most of the people that he would work with that he was a "silent partner", refusing to be credited in the album sleeves for many of the records he worked on. This continued until he was convinced, while working with ambient-pop icon Katie Coyle in February and March of 2012, to give his own music career another shot, one decade after the industry first burnt his fingers.

In 2012, Meyer has announced that he will be releasing a comeback single, before he later moves on to working on a more well rounded and focused follow up to his less than successful debut album.

Gia: No, not at all. In fact I enjoy people who actually talk about music these days ;) It's refreshing to not have to hear about their life story.

Stephanie Fierce: My kind of guy! Glad you at least "like" me ;)

I must say there aren't many artists out there now who embrace the ambient sound, so I look forward to hearing from you. If you like ambient, you should listen to "Free" my fifth studio album, I'm sure you would enjoy it :)

Also look forward to the radio debut :)

"Sometimes things bother me,
Whether it's the fact that I forgot to floss,
Or that there are a million atrocities in the world,
I just worry."
-Josh

Good evening. I wanna start writing this with the belief that I have a readership that I can talk to. Presumptive, I know, but if I don't at least have that understanding set in my own mind, then things might get a little odd. Like when you're lying in bed at night thinking of all the inventive ways you'll take down a criminal if he dares to break in. See what I mean? I'm in my own head already. Anyway, hello there dear reader(s), and welcome to the inaugural musings of Josh Meyer. I want to try to keep this somewhat intelligent and conversational in the way that you might dream a dinner party with the cool college professors would be. I think too many stars have a blog just so they can rant their days away about people who annoy them. I don't want to be that guy. I have no right to be that guy. In fact; does anyone? The sad thing is is that at this late hour, my philosophical wheels are spinning so fast thanks to caffeine and nicotine that I'm even questioning whether I am in any sort of position to answer that question. Wow.

The first thing I'd really like to say, is that this coffee I have beside my laptop is confusing me. You know how like you can remember something that happened in your life, say 15 years ago, but you can't remember whether you put sugar in the cup? I did that. It really makes me worry. I pour in the water, and then I turn around to get the milk. When I get back, not ten seconds later, I realise I don't know whether or not I put sugar in my cup. So now I am here with a cup of coffee that I have convinced myself has at least four sugars in it. It may be just in my mind. However, it also may not be, What can I say? I worry far too much.

You may be wondering how come you haven't heard from me in a few weeks, after my appearance on Radio One. Can I say first off that the response I received to that was truly something else. It's humbling to know that people are actually even listening to you, and even more exhilarating to find out that they like what you are doing. Anyway, I digress. It has been a busy few weeks for me since that day. I was working with Katie of course, and we finished that album, got it all ready for release (you are all in for a treat, I must say). After that, I had a real decision to make. I had assumed that as soon as Katie and I were done that I'd return to the US, and just perhaps start working on my music from there. You know what though? I have become so damned engrossed in the way of life here in London, that I just couldn't leave. I had always heard people talk about the magic of London, and how there was no place like it, but I can't say I ever really believed it until I got here. I mean, it's everything, from those red phone boxes and black cabs all the way to the London Eye and the Tube. I just; I'm in love with a beautiful city, and I couldn't go home.

That kind of explains my reason for maintaining radio silence for the last fortnight or so as well. I should explain first though; "radio", is a term for a method of communication the armed forces used to use before everyone just sent each other BBMs and Skype messages. I can't wait until I hear the news that the US Army have started to make use of the "Poke" system on Facebook to co-ordinate missions in the Middle East. However, forgive me for being archaic. The reason I have been quiet for the last while is that I have had very little to no internet connection. It was all fine when I had hotel Wi-Fi, I could update regularly. But I only went and bought myself an apartment- sorry; allow me to try to integrate myself into British culture. I bought myself a 'flat' in Knighstbridge. It is the most stunning setting I have ever seen to live in, and the most amazing building. We don't have old buildings like this is LA..let me tell you that much. I come outside in the morning and I just breathe in and smile. It seems so right to be here. Whether my Sunday morning strolls in Hyde Park will remain quite such a regular feature on a cold January morning remains to be seen, but for now it is still magical. As I was saying though, it took a few days to get some broadband set up in here, and I surely was not blogging on my phone. You just try to get a good 3G connection on a Nokia 3310. No no my friends; I will stick to Snake II thank you very much!

I'm acutely aware that I made myself sound like a horrendous technophobe there! Let me clear something up; I am such a technophobe. I didn't even have Twitter until like three weeks ago, and if you had come to me and said: "Hey Josh, what is Facebook?" I would probably have said that it's what you get when you graduate high school. I'm serious, I had no clue. I am getting there though. I bought this Sony Vaio laptop last week from a store called PC World. I figured that with a name like that, those were the guys to trust. It cost me something like £1,3000. It wasn't until I converted that into dollars that I almost threw up all over my aforementioned new computer. I do like it though. It's opening doors to me, and I have learned the basics of how to upload things to this site and make them look cool. It's a start I guess. Before you know it, I'll be bebo-ing with the best of ya! EDIT: I just googled bebo. I was aware that it was a social network, the only one I knew of, but apparently it's basically defunct. Showing my whizz-kiddery yet again there I guess huh? (Just give me some time; I'm trying, I promise.)

I think I'm supposed to also tell you here what you can expect from me in the next fortnight to a month. It seems to be the standard timescale for the amateur astronomers that are blog users. In truth though, I don't know anything that far in advance at the moment. All I can tell you is that my life is a blank canvas. I've moved halfway across the world, and I'm going to enjoy being the new Josh for a while I guess. I'll be writing music, trying new things, but I don't want to promise you all a release until I can be certain myself. What you can be certain of, is that I have had as much fun writing this blog as I have doing anything over the last few months, so you can expect a hell of a lot more of these from me.

Oh, and for those still wondering, there definitely were four sugars in my coffee. By the time I reached the bottom there was no doubt at all.

Until next time, be good, and love each other.

[Josh]

Josh: Why thank you my good man. That is very nice to hear on a Monday afternoon after a long day getting my head around the writing process once again. I'm pleased that you find me witty, as I often think wit is something people bestow upon themselves. Thankfully it is not in this case, so I appreciate that, and I am sure you will hear more music from me at some point throughout the course of this year.

erica: paranoia is something to be relished. if you cant look at someone and think "what dirt do they have on me?" are you really alive?

karoliena: his paranoia is just an act.why else would he went on that god awful tv show?

erich: it is a fun act though. nothing clears a wide berth around a man like a good dose of paranoia. i hear you on the walkman thing, joshers. i was still rocking cassettes until 1999. i am an analog man in a digital world.

Vanity: In short, you talk a load of shit. It's good shit though, it must have been for me to take the time out of my busy schedule to read it all, so I'll give you that. I trust Katie doesn't waste her time working with terrible people, and from the bits here and there that I've seen of you, you're far from that. Consider me impressed! Well, apart from the part about worrying if you had put sugar in your coffee... I wish I had your life, I'd love to worry about such small things. Then again, I haven't made my own coffee in years!
