1. Cold Spring

'Cold Spring was born, as obviously, on last year spring, it was the first song I wrote after I broke up with my boyfriend back at the time. It’s funny, because in my first album I wrote several break up songs, but from the perspective of someone who’s wishing so badly that person back, this time I was handling very well with the situation, I mean I was broken and sad but I know that we could never comeback together, so this song ended up being a message to my own self, like I was telling me that I had to be strong, but I also should let myself feel and overcome the whole situation.

Well last year I spend touring, and so like this and lots of others songs from this album were born while I was on the road, but I could work fully on them when I finished the tour and I was able to enter a studio and dedicate myself to them.

Rick is someone I’m hoping to work for the rest of my career, he’s a genius and he completes my thoughts , he knows exactly what I’m pretending to do with my music and he makes those wishes to come alive. I really wanted tragic melodies and epic guitar riffs for this album, so this song was also the first song we produced together for the album, it came out simply and tuned to this tragic power ballad, and I just have to thank him for making it sound so cool.

We choose it as the first single of the record, because it was the first song produced for the album and also because I think it introduces the intentions of this new project better than any other song in the album. I’m so happy at this point of my life, I feel stronger despite being single and alone, I’m better, so sing this songs for me now are just to remind me that I overcome that, that I’m a survivor!'

Song Description

The song starts with a simple piano melody, nothing too much elaborated, just to emphasize Abie’s amazing vocal performance on this song. The first strophe of the song we have Abie singing in a very soft style, but you have to understand that the whole song bears some kind of free style singing, Abie sings while feeling the song’s melodies. The sad and dark tone behind her singing is something to cling about too, she has never sounded so dark before.

In the pre-chorus of the track, Abie raises her voice a little bit, showing us the desperate feelings she’s hiding inside her heart, but is still subtle to what is about to come. In this moment another piano riff is added to the original melody of the song, this makes the song sound bigger than when it started, in general the song has this crescendo melody which is combined to Abie’s vocals, making it sound as a power ballad. The chorus is more elaborated vocally speaking, here Abie give us a tip of her powerful voice, but it’s still slow and soft.

The second strophe starts the additions of bass and drums and other strings, giving the song a neo-soul influence, also Abie’s vocal is more incorporated than it was before, she still sounds morbid but there’s some kind of fire growing inside her heart desperate to be released. The pre-chorus starts again Abie sings it with more confidence and louder than before till it culminates on the second chorus. And now we can start to see that amazing strong voice range Abie has, it is not fully loud or high like she did before, but it’s stronger than it was in the entire song and that desperate hopeless feeling is starting to come out of her heart.

The song than enters in a hook moment, where Abie sings in a crescendo style the last strophe of the song, she starts soft and calm till she delivers all her breath to an amazing high note, which she holds till the start of the last chorus.

In the last chorus Abie is fantastic, her vocals are strong, high and she’s singing the song like she was suffering for a very long time, but now she’s delivering all the pain and suffering she held inside her. Melodically the drums in this part of the song are more rock and roll style, but it is almost unperceived, because we clearly can say that this song was made to praise Abie’s voice. The song ends with Abie almost whispering the name of it.

The song takes reference from the spring season, which Abie compares the warming up sensation and her cold heart. She reveals throughout the song that she’s cold because someone that she loved a lot did something to hurt her and then left her alone, so she is saying that there’s a hate inside her that wants to get out somehow, by the end of the song she makes an analogy of killing the person who broke her, so she could get free of all this hate, but of course it’s an analogy, she’s trying to say that to get over situations we must kill the memories and the things that pushes back.

Lyrics

Flowers burn, but there’s no sun
The winter is gone, but the cold returned
Despite I'd tried, I can’t deny
You took my heart, you left a scar

And I’m trying to survive
While I feel the hazard
You’re so mean to reveal the truth behind yourself

The cold winds frozen my love
The exactly time you’re gone
And I’m still trying to see the tones
Of this cold spring

Well I thought, yes I fought
Against my will, to make this real
You don’t deserve, but I ignored
All the warnings signs, I made up a disguise

And I’m trying to survive
While I feel the hazard
You’re so mean to reveal the truth behind yourself

The cold winds frozen my love
The exactly time you’re gone
And I’m still trying to see the tones
Of this cold spring

There’s a fire burning inside of me
And it’s boiling my darkest wish
And I don’t want your sorry
I’ll pull the trigger just see you disappear

The cold winds frozen my love
The exactly time you’re gone
And I’m still trying to see the tones
Of this cold spring

2. Seasons

'This one is very intimate and depressive, I remember that after I finished it and listened to it for the first time, I thought ‘OMG, this is too much to put in the album’, I felt ashamed of it, because of the fragility this song shows, it’s about me feeling lonely, feeling broken and vulnerable and those feelings were only mine, so at first I refused to put it on the album.

It’s a song that like Cold Spring came up to me when I was touring, and I was feeling like as the time was passing by, I was feeling more alone and no one was seeing that. So this song I kept with me, I didn’t show it first for Rick or Julian because I was not sure to make this song happen for the album. But while I was creating more songs with Julian at the studio, and that was the first time I worked with him, he was so nice and so visionary that I decided to show him the song.

He said instead that that should be a single, and I was like ‘This guys is crazy!’, but he was right, this song bears something the world needed, I would be so selfish if I had keep the song with me, we worked on it and when it got finished I felt like I said before, I’m a very insecurity person *laughs*, how and I supposed to release a song that shows my vulnerability?
Well to end the story, Julian has powerful methods of persuasion, he convinced to put the song in the album and so I clung to his decision and here it is!'

Song Description

This song is a piano ballad, with influences of soul music and a long introduction melody in the beginning of it. The piano introduction part is slow and subtle, extremely sad, till is finally breaks to a faster piano melody, and this fast melody makes the path to Abie start singing the song.

The first strophe we have Abie singing like if she has lost the hope, she’s not sad and not desperate, she’s just accepting the fact that she is alone and she lost all the hope of her heart. The piano here is fast and dramatic, but it’s still simple and subtle, all of this makes Abie sounds clear and clean, but she’s also subtle as the melodies of the song.

The chorus receives another piano base melody to that one the song presented when it started. Abie sings a bit louder than the first strophe and also she’s harmonic. Second strophe Abie takes the tone of the first strophe of the song and again transmits that lost feeling to its listeners. But the melodies are the same as the chorus of the song. There’re variations of Abie’s singin style g, she’s all free style in the entire song. Before she starts the chorus again, she sings a pre-chorus that was not presented in the first strophe of the song.

The second chorus also introduces the end of the song, here Abie goes along with that harmonic intonation to her voice till the song ends. There’s a break melody helped by the amazing crying style of Abie vocals, than Abie repeats the song and by the end of it, she keeps singing short phrases to end the song even more desolated than when she started it.

Lyrically the song is all about drama, Abie is alone and desolated, she lost her hope and she’s feeling alone and forgotten, so she keeps making analogies of the seasons changings and her life is still stuck.

Lyrics

Leaves are falling from the trees, it’s almost winter
There’s no sun to warm my skin
I’m tuned at this and there’s nothing to interfere

Do you think you can save my life?
Can you wake me up?
I’m tired of sleeping awake
Nothing for me seems to be real

Words and wishes
Things I left behind
Fear and hopeless
Things I have in my mind

And no one helps me
And no one leads me
And no one saves me
And no one tries…

I can’t remember how it was before
The fog is all over it
As the times goes passing by
I’m becoming colder

I could walk in front of cars, or scream out
Nobody would look or hear me
They’re too busy to think about

Seasons change and I’m still the same
Seasons change and you’re still opaque
Seasons change and we’re far away
Seasons change and they fade
Seasons change and I can’t change my fate

Words and wishes
Things I left behind
Fear and hopeless
Things I have in my mind

And no one helps me
And no one leads me
And no one saves me
And no one tries…
No one tries…
No one tries…
No one tries…

3. I still

‘People use to say, that they know too little about my family’s life, well I tell them that they just have to pay attention to my music. Living in a musicians family, you’re always creating something with someone, I’m sure you all know my sister Magie, and it’s obviously that I write and make songs with her, it’s something we can’t run away, despite we’re very distinct on our music, but we talk about music together.

Well this one we wrote for our father. For those of you who doesn’t know, he died when I was 8 and Magie was 12, of cancer. Everything happened very fast, from the time he discovered the sickness till his death, it was three months or less, so it was very tragic loss. We never forgot him and we’ll never forget obviously, he was an amazing father, and I just have to thank God that he got to be my father. I only wish he would be able to see me and Magie as superstars, well we cannot change the past. He’s gone and he’ll never comeback.

So I decided to write a song about him, and I talked with Magie about it, she refused at first, because she’s a private person too, but I persisted and we did it. It’s different from the rest of the album but I like it, it’s more of a folk song with pop rock influences, Rick produced it for us, and I like to say that it’s a piece of my father in this record.'

Song Description

The song has folk guittars and electric guitar riffs plus bass. It starts out very slow and soft with only a simple folk melody made of guitasr and bass. Abie sings it whispering till she starts the pre chorus of the song where she raises her voice a bit and become a little dramatic. The melodies remain the same.

The chorus of the song receives percussion and the acoustic guitar is louder and so Abie is louder too, she sings the song adding some drama to her vocals, making the song sounds sad and depressive.

The second strophe comes back to the first melody structure the song had in the first strophe but the percussion remains in this part of the song, and so Abie is not whispering anymore, now her vocals are fully incorporated and stronger. She repeats the same pre-chorus and chorus the song had before and nothing changes compared to the first part of the song. After the second chorus the song transforms itself into a pop rock song with the addition of more guitar and bass and a rock base drum sequence, Abie sings some phrases in this final break moment of the song. This break melody goes till the end of the song and finishes it suddenly.

The theme of the song is about Abie’s father death. She lost him when she was 8, and Abie is complaining to God for having taken him away from her, and most intense the wish she has to touch him and to be with him finally when she’ll be dead too.

Lyrics

I still can smell you in this house
I still hear your soft steps
Like if in any moment you could come in

I still keep all the photographs
I still have your watch
Every morning I look at it and you wake me up

Why God has taken you away from me?
Knowing I would never forget
You and me

And I just want to know if you still understand
That I will love you until the end

Tonight I pray for you to come and see me
To defy all life and death rules
So I can touch you again
And you can touch me

How long am I have to wait till I see you
I swear I’ll live this life of mine
Just cause you asked me too
Till the day, I’ll be with you... again

I still cannot figured out what happened
Even though I thought too much
The answers I got are not enough

I still reed your diary
It helps me when I’m low
To me it’s like you’re talking to my soul

Why God has taken you away from me?
Knowing I would never forget
You and me

And I just want to know if you still understand
That I will love you until the end

Tonight I pray for you to come and see me
To defy all life and death rules
So I can touch you again
And you can touch me

How long am I have to wait till I see you
I swear I’ll live this life of mine
Just cause you asked me too

4. Broken

‘I don’t know what happens with me when I’m writing a song like this, the words come easily and suddenly when I realize the song is written. This one is very personal and intense, it’s about something I did to someone I really loved a long time ago, look what the solitude makes to our hearts, I felt so lonely while making this album that I even got to think about people that I haven’t seen in years, it’s strange to revive all those moments and feelings and even write them in a song.

With this song I search for redemption, because I thought that we must have be forgiven, it’s unfair that after all these years I’ll still be punishing myself for something that happened. It was tragic and it was devastating but it’s done, so I’m finishing the story with this song.

I told Rick that I wanted another power ballad in the album and se we talked about making this song like Cold Spring and it became one of my favorites on the album, it has all that drama and high vocals, I have to sing this song live, I’m longing for it, not only because it makes me feel good about its subject but also because it’s perfect for my voice, it warms my voice perfectly, so it will be a pleasure for me to sing it.

I like being overdramatic, I know sometimes it can be boring and let people jaded, but it’s me, I’m a dramatic person, I cannot run from that, but after this song in the album we got to her more upbeat songs.

Song Description

This is another power ballad piano based song. It starts out with a piano plus violin melody and Abie pure vocals, here we can hear a painful Abie Lena which will only become more desperate as the song goes on. Suddenly the song enters in its pre-chorus and Abie raises her voice strongly and powerfully, here the violins are louder than the piano melody turning the song to a dramatic opera till it culminates in the chorus of the song, where the violins slows down and Abie deliver us her high and powerful vocals for the first time in the song.

The cycle repeats, All melodies slows down to the second strophe of the song, and then comes the pre-chorus and the chorus in that crescendo mix of Abie’s vocals and orchestral elements. It goes till the song breaks to a bridge where more instruments are added to it, making it even more dramatic and bit more pop too.

In the bridge Abie makes her usual free style singing, she raises her voice and reach the song’s most loud notes, also there’s the addition of backing vocals lead Abie to the final lines of the song, where she her low voice down to finish the song in the faucet.

Lyrically the song is about redemption, Abie is saying that she’ll never feel fine to what she did to someone she loved long time ago, and she asks his forgiven but she finds out that even if he forgives she’ll probably live with the sin for the rest of her life, to end the song she takes the blame for herself accepting her guilty.

Lyrics

I don’t know how can I start, But I have to face
There’s no way to run away
I cannot escape
Only If you could forgive me
Ooh Ooh

If I had the time back
I would change what I said
I never wanted hurt you
But I had no other choice
I’m gonna regret this, Forever it will hurt
And even if I find a word
You’ll never coming back

Ooh Blame me for, everything
I did for you to be fallen
And till the end of time I’ll be broken

The shame overwhelmed my heart
I’m down on my knees
Last night I prayed to God
If he could save me
But I feel he didn’t listen
My sins Ooh

Would you have done the same thing?
Can you take my place?
I cannot look into your eyes
I choose hide my face
It’s easier for us to fake, even though we’re not the same
I just ask you don’t hate me
But I forgive you, if you can’t

Ooh Blame me for, everything
I did for you to be fallen
And till the end of time

Ooh
What it’s done cannot be changed
I will wander the face the earth searching for a fate
Ooh
I sold my soul
But I’m learning
To live with this sin

Ooh Blame me for, everything
I did for you to be fallen
And till the end of time I’ll be broken

Alicia: This is shaping up to be such a wonderfully beautiful album, but then again I always would have expected it to be. An early favourite of mine is 'I Still' and the lyrics "I still read your diary/It helps me when I’m low/To me it’s like you’re talking to my soul" is such a great line to me, the album seems to make me smile without me even knowing, so wonderful. I can't wait to hear the rest of it :)

5. This Dance

‘Breaking the depressive mood the album had up until now, I’m moving to softer songs, like first I was deeply alone and desperate, but as I was writing songs I was feeling better and so songs like ‘This Dance’ were born while I was on studio with Julian. This song is about someone who doesn’t know what to do with love, it’s like you have this person that you love so much, but he’s so insecure and unsure of his wishes that you feel messed and fooled and you really don’t know what to do because you’re in love.

I was going through ups and downs on my last relationship, I was with him and a moment after I wasn’t anymore and then we made up and moments after we broke up, I was feeling so sick of all that situation that I got inspired in writing a song about that.
Melodically, it’s more pop, more upbeat than others in the album, Julian showed me that he was a great pop blues producer, and I told him that I wanted a kind of rock and roll feel to this song, I wanted it to sound cool and modern, I like rock songs, at first we decided to make something similar to Katie Coyle’s songs, but then it turned out becoming a more soulful influenced song, I can’t deny my roots.

Julian is an amazing producer, I’m very proud that he’s ahead on Studio60 managing people, it’s not easy, I don’t know how he does it, because at the same time he was working with me, he was producers other artists on the label, and he did a wonderful job in this album, I’m so happy to be part of Studio60.’

Songs Description

‘This song is a departure from the depressive songs the album was presenting ‘till this point, this one is very influenced by soul, blues and pop rock songs, it’s more up-tempo and less dramatic than anything you had listen from ‘Seasons’.

It starts out with an electric guitar blues inspired riff followed by bass and strings and piano, Abie starts singing the song ironically, she keeps the same tone on her voice the entire song, but in the first strophe of the track which is consisted of two verses there’s the addition a full pop rock drum sequence that raises the song’s tempo making it sound more pop.

At chorus a orchestra enters giving the song an epic feel to it adding some drama, and in the chorus Abie raises her voice performing it in high notes, but coming low again in the second strophe of the song.

The second chorus is performed just like the first, but then the song slows down to a bridge where Abie sings the chorus once again but with her usual free style almost giving those words a different meaning, after this bridge she performs another chorus but as she performed before with the orchestra and everything, finishing the song right after it by slowing down her voice and singing the final words.

Lyrics

You let me confuse
You mess up with my thoughts
You should know it's so cruel
I find myself lost
Is this love?
Or is this just a big Joke?

When I’m with you
My heart gets quiet
But my mind keeps saying I’m a fool
So I don’t know what to do
Cause I think I’m in love with you

Are you up to this dance?
Do you think we will last forever?
Even if I don’t think this way
If I surrender
Even this being tender, will you stay?
Are you up to this dance?
Do you think we will last forever?
Even if I don’t think this way

I spend my days
With your face in my mind
It gets me so many headaches
Due to your absence
But when you’re near, all my pain disappears

Are you up to this dance?
Do you think we will last forever?
Even if I don’t think this way
If I surrender
Even this being tender, will you stay?
Are you up to this dance?
Do you think we will last forever?
Even if I don’t think this way

Are you up to this dance?
Do you think we will last forever?
Even if I don’t think this way
If I surrender
Even this being tender, will you stay?
Are you up to this dance?
Do you think we will last forever?
Even if I don’t think this way

6. The Same Tear

'The Same Tear is my favorite song on the album, I love it from the moment Julian presented me the melodies till the moment it was recorded. I have never written a song above someone else's melodies, and that's is crazy because I told Julian that I wanted a Dolly Parton feel to this album and he showed me this melodies and I was obsessed about it!

Everything sounded fantastic , the guitars and the drums and I was so chocked about how dramatic it became, I loved it very much. The lyrics is about my last relationship, and I’m the victim this time, after I released my first album we were still dating, but as I was getting media attention, I was becoming famous and I had to tour and stuffs, he started to feel jealous and maybe a bit useless, because I was getting so much money, not that I needed, *laughs* but you know hoe man head’s work, so I was taking him to sophisticated parties and things like that, and let’s say he was a regular guy, but I loved him so much, I don’t know what happened, I just remember that I was entering the plane to start the tour and he had broke up with me.

So when I received this song I didn’t wanted it to be sad at all, so this is a more hopeful song, it has this overcome feeling in it, that I simply adore! It’s very spiritual too, like I’m saying in the song that hate and rage only leads us to dark paths, we’ll never be happy if we keep these feelings in our hearts.'

Song Description

Another song produced by Julian Morello,it starts with a country styled acoustic guitar and Abie saying that she no longer recognize her lover and that she’s been broken because of him, right in the first lines, she gives all the intonation that the song bears.

The acoustic guitar plus Abie vocals, goes till the pre-chorus of the song starts, where comes drums and piano and bass, transforming the song into a country ballad. Abie sings the song sadly enough to make us remember of a lover we no longer have.
The chorus of the song comes in full form, and even Abie raises her vocals a little bit, while she sings the desperate and hopeful lines of the chorus, here Abie wants to make clear she’s recovering and she wants to change and she’ s even trying to.

The second strophe slows down the melodies of the chorus, but keeps the drums and the bass with the acoustic guitar and in fact this structure gives us the exactly feeling of listening to an old country song. Again come another chorus, but right after it ends, comes the song final strophe where violin is added and Abie finally drops all her usual vocal potential to sing the last lines of the song, actually this final strophe is basically the same notes of the chorus, but the lines are different, now Abie is strong enough to be mean, and wish the same worst feeling she’s feeling to her past lover.

Being the first time Julian is working with Abie Lena after he took part of Studio60, he did an wonderful job by leading Abie to a new field of genre, she has never experimented before, and let’s say that Abie is usually linked to dramatic and extremely sad songs, so in this one he made a great job by uniting the queen of broke up songs with the massive broke up melody, the country music.

lyrics

How we ended up like this?
You left me alone, taking away my bliss
And still I’m trying to recover myself
If someone can throw water in this hell

Despite everything you did to me and all the hate
Even though I’m broken and without faith
I still believe, I'll retrieve
All my missing pieces
And someday you’ll taste the same fear

Catch the fire from my soul
And burn all the memories, leave blank my world
All the hate and rage drowned in your soul
Won't let you be happy till you let them go

Despite everything you did to me and all the hate
Even though I’m broken and without faith
I still believe, I'll retrieve
All my missing pieces
And someday you’ll taste the same fear

Long ago I used to feel
Like you were everything I thought was real
I never thought, I could be so fool
By putting my trust in you

Despite all the hurt, even I ended up alone
I know you’ll be worse than me
I know someday you'll pour the same tears

I still pour these tears

7. Things about love

‘This is a self-description song. I’m singing about myself, about the way I feel now, or at least how I choose to be after so many disillusions. It’s crazy because when you’re not the person who’s suffering, it’s easier for you to judge the acts of someone else, but when you’re the person who was hurt, you won’t like to see anyone judging you, and that’s the moments where lots of people come to say, they told you so.

I worked with Rick and Julian in this song, and it was a very fun and crazy section. We started out with a piano riff, and then the song was becoming faster and faster and so we added drums and guitars and I was really enjoying what those guys were bringing o my song.

I was born to sing blues and jazz, there’s no other genre I see myself singing in my entire life, I’m not sure I will be doing this forever, but while this last I’ll remain attached to jazz and blues, that’s my sound man. This song kind of became a homage to those genres.’

Song Description

Constructed over drums and piano, the song starts up-tempo but very subtle and simple, first we have the soulful drums then a piano riff and seconds after Abie starts singing it, bringing harmony to the first strophe. There’s also some other instruments incorporated to the melodies of the song, such as bass and violin.

The chorus is a mix of all those instruments plus Abie and her backup voice performers, which transports the song to a more jazz feel. Violins are more elaborated and louder compared to the first minute of the song.

The second strophe receives an electric guitar riff, Abie kept the same intonation on her voice, she had in the first strophe, and by that she shows how much confident she is in this song. Compared to previous songs in the album, ‘Things about Love’ brings a fresh concept to it, now Abie is leaving the sadness and the depression state, to assume a more confident and strong intonation.

There’s a bridge in the song, where Abie give us her usual high notes, she’s accompany by violin, drums, guitar and piano in a soulful style, not showed yet in the album. The song finishes with all melodies slow down to a piano plus harp hook, where Abie delivers the final lines of the song culminating in the last chorus and finally a long final riff of piano.

Lyrically the song is about being closed for love due to suffering caused by being in love, and also Abie is declaring that there are things in love that no one can controls, so she rather choose to be alone and closed to anyone than to be vulnerable by being open to love.

Lyrics

I swear, I’ll never fall in love again
I was not made to share a thing
And when I did, I even lost
So don’t ask me why
I’m leaving you outside tonight
Don’t beg me, ‘cause you won’t come in
I cannot go back, I’ve made up my mind
People say that I should be strong
But they only see what they want
It’s easy to speak when you’re not the one

Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave
Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave

You never know, we don’t wait when it comes
And we cannot force it just ‘cause we want
It sucks when it’s not our intend
Sometimes we love
Sometimes we don’t correspond
But there’re times where we’re ignored
And this is the part I hate the most

Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave
Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave

And if I cry, I’ll only cry because
I didn’t feel it, It's my choice
I rather be away than have this feeling
So tonight I’m giving up
And nothing will make me turn

Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave
Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave

Before you leave, take everything you want from me
If you do this you’ll be letting me free
And I’ll be sure you’ll never comeback
Maybe I'm being too hard, I know I cannot stay alone
At least I’ll need someone with me someday
Maybe I’ll be regretting everything I said
But tonight I won’t let you stay

Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave
Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave

Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave
Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave

8. The day I left you

‘After having write deep depression heartbreak songs, I kind of started feeling better and healed again, so my confident was back and my happiness too, I found myself writing overcome stories and this one is about that. I could finally breathe from all that loneliness feelings I was in, and so I told Julian I wanted to compose a song inspired by gospel music, those ones we heard Ray Charles do a lot!

After the breakup with my boyfriend at the time, I went to this bar while my vacations on Brazil, and he was there, but I was with my friends and my sister was there too, I never thought he would come to talk with me again, but he did it, and I felt like so uncomfortable and confused that I told myself that I would never regret the day I left him, and so a song was born that day.’

Song Description

Following the departure from the deep depression and sad songs introduced by the track before, this soulful gospel inspired song, brings a even more confident Abie, and probable one of the best vocals performances of the entire album. Here Abie sounds incredibly clean, her voice is just very thin and high and that fuses with the emotion she’s transmitting through the song, giving us a softer sense compared to what we’re receiving from others songs presented in the album so far.

It has an elaborated piano riff that last the whole track, giving Abie, the opportunity to let her voice shine, and knowing her vocal’s potential, she didn’t need too much. But heading to the chorus of the song, the song grows to a more blues form, where it receives, drums, guitar and bass, and that structure keeps till the end of the song.
The bridge of the song, is a piano and orchestra melody with a choir and Abie leading all of that to a beautiful interlude till she drops everything again in a culminate chorus to further end the song.

The final chorus is extremely loud and high, Abie is sounding stunning on it, and she keeps singing it till she finally ends the song with the longest and highest vocal notes of the entire song.

Lyrics are about a meeting Abie had with her ex-boyfriend at a Brazilian bar, that made she feel uncomfortable and strange when she thought about what she had with him, so she’s saying him to move on, because she has already overcame their broken relationship.

Lyrics

It’s been a long time
And now I’m not missing you
‘cause I erased from my mind
All memories of you
It’s been so long, since the day I told you goodbye permanently
How have you been lately?

But last time you saw me
You shouldn’t have
But you came near
Just to tell me you were scared
You never forgot and you’ll never forget
But this time I’m sorry I don’t regret

The day I left you baby, It was over
You had your chance
To prove I was wrong
But instead you just let me go
Not even a word was said
And that time washed my face from sadness
So I’m not coming back

You chosen to stay
And this will be our last meet
I changed all my feelings
I suggest you do the same
I hope you’ll find, someone to be by your side
And I hope you do it differently with her

But last time you saw me
You shouldn’t have
But you came near
Just to tell me you were scared
You never forgot and you’ll never forget
But this time I’m sorry I don’t regret

The day I left you baby, It was over
You had your chance
To prove I was wrong
But instead you just let me go
Not even a word was said
And that time washed my face from sadness
So I’m not coming back

We had our story, and now I have mine
We had our story, and now you have yours
I forgive you
(We had our story, and now I have mine)
If you forgive me
I’m sorry for everything
(We had our story, and now you have yours)
But I don’t regret it
And I don’t feel it
(We had our story, and now I have mine)
I wish you to be happy
If you let me be happy
(We had our story, and now you have yours)
I forgive you

The day I left you baby, It was over
You had your chance
To prove I was wrong
But instead you just let me go
Not even a word was said
And that time washed my face from sadness
So I’m not coming back

I’m saying you goodbye
I wish you the best I can, so live your life
But without me this time

9. Baby hit the road

‘This is the funniest song in the whole album. It comes from that side of me that was moving on to the next chapter of my life, it also shows how the album switches from the sad songs to the more confident and happier songs. I like this sudden switching we did intentionally in the album, as the time was passing by I was feeling better with myself and so the songs were born from a stronger side of me.

I had the lyrics of this song first, so I wanted a blues influence on it with country guitars. Rick produced this one, and Julian helped complete her a little bit by changing some line of it. I’m very cling to release this as a single in a near future, my label wanted this as the lead single, but after discussing a little more we decided that we should start first showing the fragile side of the album.

Everytime I listen to this song, I start laughing, because it’s me speaking with my ex-boyfriend by saying that he is so full of himself, but if you really pay attention to the lyrics, I’m kind of taking the same plot he took. It’s a song that will remind my fans to my first album too. It has more of that blues influenced I used in my first album, an influence that is less used in this new album but it’s still here.’

Song Description

Switching from the sad songs of the album comes ‘Baby Hit The Road’. It starts with a percussion-driven jazz melody which later is incorporated with backing vocals and electric guitar. Abie has an incredibly ironic and funny tone on her vocals. There also the addition of bass and piano leading the song to a softer blues.

Right after the first chorus of the song, there’s a break moment where another electric guitar is introduced and then it goes with the song till finally Abie reach the pre-chorus of it and it comes back to the original structure presented before.

In the stripped-down piano bridge Abie's vocals carry a twinge of sweetness before the chorus starts strongly and surprisingly ironic. The final chorus is louder than the other ones, but it’s because of the full melody structure the song took before it ends in the piano.

Abie give us a very unique style while singing this song, she’s sounding ironic and acidic, it’s like if she’s laughing the same time she’s singing the song. Lyrics are about Abie getting all of her confidence and self-acceptance back, she’s telling her boyfriend to never comeback anymore because she’s sick of him and now she only cares about her and even more she’s telling him that he was not good enough for her and that’s the reason they broke up, a little too selfish for Abie, but still very original.

Lyrics

You think you know
You said I was too young and immature
But you don’t know
Just because you live longer, or 'cause you are old
No I don’t agree
Baby I think it’s better if you disappear

Take your things I’ve sick of your lies
I’m so over you
And you don't need to try
You don’t have
Anything I could use for
And baby I don’t want to see you anymore

Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore

You look at me
With punishing eyes as if you could judge me
You think I’m a fool
Just ‘cause I didn’t have a story like you do
You should know it's my choice
I rather be a fool than be all coiled
Haven’t you realized, you’re not that much?

Take your things I'm sick of your lies
I’m so over you
And you don't need to try
You don’t have
Anything I could use for
And baby I don’t want to see you anymore

Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore

And today I ask, someone will show you
That love isn’t just taking all for you
If you were humble, there weren’t all these tumbles
You really don’t know how to love
But someday you’ll see it, someone will make you feel it
That you don’t know anything

Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore

10. Take a Moment and Cry

‘This one I did all by myself, the piano, the notes, the lyrics, everything was made by me and for me, I didn’t want to put this one in the record too, initially I was thinking about a bonus track or something, but in the end I gave up and delivered it in the album.

It has this sampler from Bob Dylan’s ‘Make you feel my love’ and talking about him, who in this entire world didn’t take him as an inspiration? He’s fantastic and so this song is, So I used a sampler from that song and turned it into this one.

As this album will reach it’s end, songs are coming back to sound rough and nude as they started, I mean, they’ll come back to the piano and violin, but lyrically they’re hundred ways stronger and happier than the first piano songs of the album.

There are moments in life where we have no other choice but to cry and I think that we all should do that, because crying helped a lot in several occasions of my life, it lead us to mercy and recovery, I’s the exit for all sad feelings.’

Song Description

This song starts with a piano melody as introduction and it leads to the first lines of the song where Abie shows how clean and determined is her voice in this track. We can loosely perceive the sampler from Bob Dylan’s old success right in the beginning of the song, specially the intonation Abie puts on her singing.

The song is made over strophes, there’s no chorus or bridge, there’s just separated strophes sung by Abie and in some parts backing vocals are added to Abie’s singing, this leads the song to a more sad and depressed feel if it weren’t for its positive lyrics.

The break melody of the song receives an orchestra help with violin and other piano keys, this break melody serves to lead the song to its final strophes where again Abie is followed by backing vocals ‘till she finally reaches the final phrases of the song and those ones are sung by her without the backing vocals, and in the same style she started the song previously.

Lyrically the song talks about moments when we find ourselves lonely and sad, Abie says that we should take a moment to cry so we’ll drop out all the depress feelings and we let space to happiness and joy come and take over our hearts.

Lyrics

When it’s midnight and you’re all alone
When your faith has been gone
When you know that no one will come
Just take a moment and cry

He took and held tight your hands
But seems he had lost his strength
Another day you’re gonna have to stand
Just take a moment and cry

If I could heal the wounds of your heart
Maybe this pain would disappear
If I could erase and comeback to the start
I’d do everything right so you’d stay here

When there’s light but you live in the dark
When there’s flavor but you cannot try
When there’s life but you just want to die
Just take a moment and cry

If I could heal the wounds of your heart
Maybe this pain would disappear
If I could erase and comeback to the start
I’d do everything right so you’d stay here

Sometimes life isn’t what we planned
Sometimes love seems nothing but a pretense
Sometimes crying is the only intend
So take a moment and cry
Ohhh take a moment to cry

11. Take it Easy

‘Now we’re getting into the newest songs I wrote. ‘Take it Easy’ it’s my way to face a new love interest, the way I’m moving on with my life and with the way I choose to relate to relationships and dates and all this stuffs. Not that the other song sin the album doesn’t describe me, but these two last songs of it are more about the way I’m feeling right now.

I simply love vocal and piano and despite people would think that putting so much of this style in a single album would get boring, Julian encouraged me to do whatever I wanted to do, so I said him that I had this new piano ballad and he instead said, let’s do this!

I just loved the experience and opportunity to work with him, he has this sense on making an album sounds coherent and exciting, and I feel that ‘Seasons’ has this, it follows a chronological line and leads the listener to this point, where all the sadness has gone and you’re starting over.

This is the message I want my fans to relate to, that love is just a fact of life and we all will have delusions and deceptions, but when we’re in love everything is worth and no matter how much depress you can feel, you’ll feel love again.’

Song Description

Differently from other piano ballads of the album, this track takes some references to old Motown and gospel genres, especially because of Abie’s singing style. These piano ballads songs shows how much strong and clean Abie can sound, it praises her amazing vocal ability.

It starts with Abie’s singing followed by piano, throughout the first strophe Abie is all by herself and the piano, but in the chorus of the song she’s followed by backing vocals and the piano tempo is faster than when it started.

The other strophes have the same structure and aspects as the first strophe of the song, but also Abie’s vocals changes a bit due to her free style in this song, the discipline of the song is only in the piano part of it.

The highlight of the song is Abie’s incredible domain of her voice, she has such a melody to it combined with the piano is the perfect wedding. Lyrics are about Abie’s talking with her new love interest that both of them suffered before with love and that they can start easily, she doesn’t want rush things, so they can discover themselves together and slow.

Lyrics

If you show your heart
I’ll give you mine
I’m scared to be hurt another time
So I’m acting quiet
I know you’ve been hurt too
You don’t need to say

The pain in your voice surrenders
The fear of another disgrace
So you should realize
We’re together in this
We go slow till
Our hearts get healed

Let’s take it easy
Let’s go slow this time
Maybe we’ll find
New reasons to laugh
I don’t want
Another delusion
You don’t want
Another delusion

It’s our nature
To be with someone
It’s an entire life search
Till we finally trust
And when it ends
You understand
The weight might be heavy
But you find your strenght

Then let’s take it easy
Let’s go slow this time
Maybe we’ll find
New reasons to laugh
I don’t want
Another delusion
You don’t want
Another delusion

I admire the bravery
And the overcome capability
That we all have
Within our soul
After all, every morning borns another sun

Let’s take it easy
Let’s go slow this time
Maybe we’ll find
New reasons to laugh
Let’s take it easy
Let’s go slow this time
Maybe we’ll find
New reasons to laugh
I don’t want
Another delusion
You don’t want
Another delusion
We don’t want
Another delusion

12. Summer Heat

‘My beloved Brazil is represented in this song, here we have the influence of Bossa Nova that my father used to sing when he was a musician in Brazil. I simply love this genre which fuses jazz and soul and folk and turn it to this beautiful old fashion track.

I asked Rick to produce it and we even invited Jorge Ben, who’s a friend of my family to do some strings to the song and he accepted, so he ended up writing and producing it as well. We did a wonderful job, it’s a remarkable song and maybe a direction I can follow in my future releases.

The easy going melody and soft vocals I did in the song are praised by the kind and sweet poetry of the lyrics, I imagine myself in Rio de Janeiro enjoying the beach and the sun and simply falling in love, what another perfect way to end a rough and heavy album like this one?

I really think that there’s no other better way to expressing our feelings than through music. I feel so happy that I was able to made this album and I really want to thank everyone who was involved with this from the beginning, my band, Julian Morello, Rick Rubin, people at Studio 60 and even people who collaborated in small roles like my sister Magie Lena and Jorge Ben, I feel so blessed to have these people credited in this work and I hope my fans will enjoy this album as much as I enjoy it.’

Song Description

The Bossa nova influenced melody starts with piano and percussion and quickly Abie starts to sing the song, softly, breathy and using such a charm and warm intonation evolving us to this fresh summer feeling she transmits in the song.

The song has bridges and the chorus is very simple by the fact it’s made of three phrases, but Abie sings it so beautifully and even the backing vocals to it makes it sounds so old fashion, you feel like you’re in an old dream.

Strings are presented in the song and they come from different instruments such as violins and guitars, lyrically it’s about falling in love in the summer and having the first perfect days with the person you felt in love.

Abie explains that she wanted to finish the album softly once she initiate it intensively depressing and she was afraid that this feeling would make people feel exhausted by too much sad songs, so the album switches in the end to more soft and easy going song till it culminates into ‘Summer Heat’ where Abie is heavily influenced by her musical roots and overcome heartbroken.

Lyrics

See the birds fly in the sky
The summer has coming by
The sun rises and warms my heart
The summer has coming by

The People hang out on the beach
The summer is next to come
In the parks sit down to lunch
The summer is next to come

Feel the breeze touching your face
It’s time to make mistakes
All the lovers are waiting for
The love songs on the radio

And I’m still searching my other half
And if we can spend the night
Together

Strawberry sweet ice cream
Just to ease the summer heat
Spend the day being kissed
Just to ease the summer heat

And I’m still searching my other half
And if we can spend the night
Together

If we go walk please, take my hands
I want to be your girlfriend
If we lie down please kiss my lips
Let's celebrate the summer heat
Celebrate the summer heat

Sounds Like

Abie Lena Performance at the Total Annihilation Festival ‘Kill The Poison Stage’

The instrumentation of ‘Fake Plastic Life’ begins to be played and the crowd already recognizes that it’s time for Abie Lena gives her performance at the festival. The stage is very simple, Abie’s band is placed in the middle of it, in front of them there’s Abie pedestal and near it it’s a small table with a cup of tea and a bottle of water.

When Abie enters the stage, the song is still on its introduction part, Abie goes walking holding her micro at hands and singing the first lines of the song, the crowd cheers for her when they notice that the track is Abie’s very first single, the one responsible to turn her into a very successful pop singer. She’s very shy, so her expressions are very tense and nervous, but her voice is tremendous, she’s incredibly loud and it seems that she’s not forcing her vocals; it looks very natural for her to reach those kinds of notes.

The performance ends with a very loud and stunning reception from the crowds. They kept clapping for her for a long period till she finally says hello for them in her Brazilian foreign accent.

Lyrics

Life has passed by my eyes
Like a bullet crossed the sky
And Now I know I lost the love of my life
When time is not a friend
And we tried to pretend
I hided in that old box all memories we spent
No, you seem very well
You got yourself a fairy tale
Living a good life and I'm at this hell
Can you remember what we were?
The times we passed in that shore
In a few second after my heart tore

Our love was a summer’s heat
And like a station passed so fast
Now you have a new life and I’m at a disguise
Fake like a plastic Life

I just want you know there is no regrets
Since you have gone I just never trusted in another man
But it’s fine after all Guess I’m not good with love
So many times I spend looking at the clocks
Even if I waited for you, probably we would not get through
I always took the first steps when you should have do
I have said no many prayers, for you to change your head
But All I received was a kick in my ass

Our love was a summer’s heat
And like a station passed so fast
Now you have a new life and I’m at a disguise
Fake like a plastic Life

Now I live alone
Faking a smile on my own
Just to show you that I’m ok Baby!

Our love was a summer’s heat
And like a station passed so fast
Now you have a new life and I’m at a disguise
Fake like a plastic Life

Maybe you think I’m all right
Well that’s what I show outside
Didn’t you think I would show my heart?
But I live alone
Faking a smile on my own
Just to show you that I’m ok Baby!

Our love was a summer’s heat
And like a station passed so fast
Now you have a new life and I’m at a disguise
Fake like a plastic Life

Our love was a summer’s heat
And like a station passed so fast
Now you have a new life and I’m at a disguise
Fake like a plastic Life

Abie: Hello my dear ones! – she gets another loud reception – I’m so happy to be back here performing for you, thanks for making this possible for me, I really love you. – Another stop for another cheering moment – Well I got a song to sing which is my single and it is about a person who thinks she knows everything about relationships but deeply this person is weaker than you and so you realize that you are smarter than her. This is ‘Baby Hit The Road’

An old R&B drum sequence starts, lights move and interact as the sound of drums are played, Abie and her backup singer starts to bounce from right to left in an all old 50’s style, she’s singing in front of her pedestal, when finally the songs begins. This is the confident Abie Lena performing; she’s makes a hundred of face expression according to every line of the song she sings, her vocals are stunning and the chorus are performed by Abie singing the lines ‘Baby Hit The Road’ while her backup dancers sings ‘Don’t want you anymore’ ate some point of the performance Abie could notice that the crowd was singing the same lines her backup singer were singing, so she decided to share the singing with the crowd, everytime she was about to sing the crowd she gives the lead to the crowd so they complete the strophe with the backing vocals lines of the song. Thins interaction made Abie gests very close to her fans, some of them were seen crying in the crowd. Abie finished the performance and again she talked with her fans.

Lyrics

You think you know
You said I was immature on stories of love
But you don’t know
Just because you’re older or because you’re grown
No I don’t agree
Baby I think it’s better if you disappear

Take your things I’ve made up my mind
I’m so over you
And you don't need to try
You don’t have
Anything I could use for
And baby I don’t want to see you anymore

Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore

You look at me
With punishment eyes as if you’ll judge me
You think I’m a fool
Just ‘cause I didn’t have relationships like you do
You should know this is my choice
I rather be a fool than be all coiled
Haven’t you thought, you’re not that much?

Take your things I’ve made up my mind
I’m so over you
And you don't need to try
You don’t have
Anything I could use for
And baby I don’t want to see you anymore

Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore

And today I pray, someone will show you
That love isn’t just taking all for you
If you were humble, there weren’t all these tumbles
You really don’t know how to love
But someday you’ll see it, someone will make you feel it
You don’t know anything

Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore
Baby hit the road
Don’t want you anymore

Abie: Ulala, you people were amazing! Great singer and performances in the crowd tonight. – A little break to catch her breath and drink some water – Well this next one is very famous song I wrote about my last boyfriend, he was a jerk and he told me things that I never would expect to hear from him, so this is ‘The Same Tear’

All lights got deem, only Abie was lighted, she looked straight to her fans when the piano melodies begin, she was still smiling, but suddenly her face expressions changes to fit the mood of the song, and so the crowd was not cheering anymore, they were somehow quiet and anxious to hear Abie’s beautiful vocal performance.

The whole performance has a very emotional and breakdown moment when Abie raises her vocals to incredible high notes where she delivered the most sincere and intense line soft the track, this moment was very clapped by the crowd, she sounded gorgeous and very honest, it was all very touchable.

lyrics

How we ended up like this?
You left me alone, taking away my bliss
And still I’m trying to recover myself
If someone can throw water in this hell

Despite everything you did to me and all the hate
Even though I’m broken and without faith
I still believe, I'll retrieve
All my missing pieces
And someday you’ll taste the same fear

Catch the fire from my soul
And burn all the memories, leave blank my world
All the hate and rage drowned in your soul
And you won’t be happy till you let them go

Despite everything you did to me and all the hate
Even though I’m broken and without faith
I still believe, I'll retrieve
All my missing pieces
And someday you’ll taste the same fear

Long ago I used to feel
Like you were the one I thought to be real
I never imagined, you could be so cruel
By tearing my trust in you

Despite all the hurt, even I’m alone
I know you’ll be worse than me
I know someday you'll pour the same tears

I still pour these tears

Abie took a drink of her tea and she already begun to sing her second smash hit ‘Broke up!’ , she used the same mood she put her fans into when moments before with ‘The same tear’ and she continues the amazing vocal drama intense performance with this anthem for all broken relationships in the world. The crowd was literally singing with Abie every word and they were even trying to follow her high notes, at some moments of the performance Abie pointed her microphone to the crowd so only they kept singing, she was so adorable with a big smile on her face just by seeing all the love she was receiving from the crowd.

The bridge of the song receive a new instrumentation, the addition of violins transformed the song into a more dramatic tune also Abie changed a little bit her singing tone to fit the orchestral feeling the song received, it turned out very epic and dramatic.

Lyrics

I looked at your brown eyes
And I could saw that you’re leaving me
I looked at your tearful eyes
You were so strong to hold your cry
Why has to be this way
My love wasn’t enough for both of us

Bridge
Your voice was shaking but you handle very well
My heart was breaking so slowly just hearing every word
You said straight to me “it is over”

Chorus
Don’t bother I’ll be alright
But Oh please baby just don’t you cry
I can live by my own
I’m not young I have grown
It will hurt but then I ‘ll have my turn
It will hurt but then I ‘ll have my turn

Remember the times when we passed
In the grass talking about us
Remember when you said to me
You loved me and you won’t leave me…

And when someday you stop to think
Don’t call me baby don’t be weak
I should have be over you
And you should’ve be over me

Don’t bother I’ll be alright
But Oh please baby just don’t you cry
I can live by my own
I’m not young I have grown
It will hurt but then I ‘ll have my turn
Yes! It will hurt but then I ‘ll have my turn

After ‘Broke up’ Abie again took some water and drink her tea, moments after she talked with the crowd once more.

Abie: That one was for all the broken hearts in the audience tonight. Well guys I’m afraid this next song is my last one. – The entire crowd sounded very disappointed – Aw, thank you for the love guys, you have been an awesome audience tonight I appreciated every moment of this concert! I’ll finish this show with my single ‘Cold Spring’ so let’s make a big choir, I want to hear you singing it very loud!

Lyrics

Flowers burn, but there’s no sun
The winter is gone, but the cold returned
Despite I'd tried, I can’t deny
You took my heart, you left a scar

And I’m trying to survive
While I feel the hazard
You’re so mean to reveal the truth behind yourself

The cold winds frozen my love
The exactly time you’re gone
And I’m still trying to see the tones
Of this cold spring

Well I thought, yes I fought
Against my will, to make this real
You don’t deserve, but I ignored
All the warnings signs, I made up a disguise

And I’m trying to survive
While I feel the hazard
You’re so mean to reveal the truth behind yourself

The cold winds frozen my love
The exactly time you’re gone
And I’m still trying to see the tones
Of this cold spring

There’s a fire burning inside of me
And it’s boiling my darkest wish
And I don’t want your sorry
I’ll pull the trigger just see you disappear

The cold winds frozen my love
The exactly time you’re gone
And I’m still trying to see the tones
Of this cold spring

Abie gave the sign for her band to start the song, first the piano and Abie’s unmistakable ironic but dramatic vocals, she was singing when violins and chords were added to the song, and all of the sounds were growing for the first chorus, Abie’s still calm and soft in this one. Next strophe, with drums and guitars, Abie is even more dramatic and ironic, so her vocals are louder than before and so the bridge was louder too, till she finally sung the chorus with more intense than the first time she sung it. The song was already in full shape with all instrumentations being played, Abie begun singing the hook and the chorus of the song, and in these two parts she totally lost her inhibitions, delivering her highest and most dramatic notes of the entire concert, the crowd went insane with Abie’s ability, she finally got back to her softer style in the final verse of the song, where she sings the last lines and then she receives a very intense amount of claps from her fans. She sends kisses for them, and she leaves the stage.

Set List

1- Fake Plastic Life
2- Baby Hit The Road
3- The Same Tear
4- Broke Up
5- Cold Spring
