7. Things about love‘This is a self-description song. I’m singing about myself, about the way I feel now, or at least how I choose to be after so many disillusions. It’s crazy because when you’re not the person who’s suffering, it’s easier for you to judge the acts of someone else, but when you’re the person who was hurt, you won’t like to see anyone judging you, and that’s the moments where lots of people come to say, they told you so.
I worked with Rick and Julian in this song, and it was a very fun and crazy section. We started out with a piano riff, and then the song was becoming faster and faster and so we added drums and guitars and I was really enjoying what those guys were bringing o my song.
I was born to sing blues and jazz, there’s no other genre I see myself singing in my entire life, I’m not sure I will be doing this forever, but while this last I’ll remain attached to jazz and blues, that’s my sound man. This song kind of became a homage to those genres.’
Song DescriptionConstructed over drums and piano, the song starts up-tempo but very subtle and simple, first we have the soulful drums then a piano riff and seconds after Abie starts singing it, bringing harmony to the first strophe. There’s also some other instruments incorporated to the melodies of the song, such as bass and violin.
The chorus is a mix of all those instruments plus Abie and her backup voice performers, which transports the song to a more jazz feel. Violins are more elaborated and louder compared to the first minute of the song.
The second strophe receives an electric guitar riff, Abie kept the same intonation on her voice, she had in the first strophe, and by that she shows how much confident she is in this song. Compared to previous songs in the album, ‘Things about Love’ brings a fresh concept to it, now Abie is leaving the sadness and the depression state, to assume a more confident and strong intonation.
There’s a bridge in the song, where Abie give us her usual high notes, she’s accompany by violin, drums, guitar and piano in a soulful style, not showed yet in the album. The song finishes with all melodies slow down to a piano plus harp hook, where Abie delivers the final lines of the song culminating in the last chorus and finally a long final riff of piano.
Lyrically the song is about being closed for love due to suffering caused by being in love, and also Abie is declaring that there are things in love that no one can controls, so she rather choose to be alone and closed to anyone than to be vulnerable by being open to love.

LyricsI swear, I’ll never fall in love again
I was not made to share a thing
And when I did, I even lost
So don’t ask me why
I’m leaving you outside tonight
Don’t beg me, ‘cause you won’t come in
I cannot go back, I’ve made up my mind
People say that I should be strong
But they only see what they want
It’s easy to speak when you’re not the one
Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave
Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave
You never know, we don’t wait when it comes
And we cannot force it just ‘cause we want
It sucks when it’s not our intend
Sometimes we love
Sometimes we don’t correspond
But there’re times where we’re ignored
And this is the part I hate the most
Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave
Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave
And if I cry, I’ll only cry because
I didn’t feel it, It's my choice
I rather be away than have this feeling
So tonight I’m giving up
And nothing will make me turn
Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave
Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave
Before you leave, take everything you want from me
If you do this you’ll be letting me free
And I’ll be sure you’ll never comeback
Maybe I'm being too hard, I know I cannot stay alone
At least I’ll need someone with me someday
Maybe I’ll be regretting everything I said
But tonight I won’t let you stay
Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave
Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave
Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave
Things about love
Things that we can’t control
And we can’t fight against it
Something too strong to leave
