Katie smiles and nods. "Yeah. To be honest, between me being on tour with Nadia and a few of my previous relationships, there have probably been too many girls in his life. He's probably just happy to see a guy around. Plus he thinks you're cool." She chuckles.

As they walk, Lucas keeps pointing at stuff and laughing, making Katie laugh. They then walk past an old lady who stops to talk to them. "Awwwe he's so cute," she says, smiling at Lucas. "Are you behaving for your mommy and daddy?" She asks him, and Lucas starts to laugh.
"Oh no....he's not his dad," Katie says, chuckling. As they walk away, she smiles. "Awwwwkkkkwwwwaaaard."

Katie laughs. "I'm sorry you shouldn't have to put up with that." She chuckles. "Yeah, I think you'd have got a funny look from the old lady if you said "he's not my son, he's just my friend."" She starts laughing again.

Katie smiles at him and nods a little. "I know you aren't. He doesn't have a dad anyway. It's just his mom and his friend really." She smiles a little at Hayden and puts her arm around his back as they walk. "He does feel comfortable around you. Look at him. He really likes being around you."

Katie shrugs and smiles. "Ah, you know, I don't bother him about it. He visited him when he was a day old and then he's never been back. It's fine though. I don't want someone who's going to float in and out and just hurt Lucas. He needs people who are consistent and there for him." She nods and smiles up at him. "I know, and you've been great with him. You've really helped me, and it makes me feel much better."

She thinks for a minute and then shrugs. "I don't know. I guess I'll tell him the truth; that his mama was always here for him but his dad had other things to worry about. I don't want him to dislike Jason or anything, but I'm not going to lie to him. I guess I just hope that having me around is enough for him. I doubt he'll ever have more." She shrugs again a little and then laughs at Lucas shouting. She puts a hat on his head. "And don't take it off. You need to stay covered up." Lucas looks at Hayden as if to stand up for him.

Katie nods. "Yup. It'll just be me and him forever. I don't even mind. As long as we have a nice house. Then when he leaves I'll get myself a nice cottage somewhere." She looks at Lucas who then turns back to Katie and scowls at her before reaching for the hat. "No!" She says, sternly.

Lucas then turns his attention back to Hayden and points to Hayden's head, as if to ask where his hat is. He then starts to take his own off and Katie puts her hand on top to stop him. "Lucas Coyle! Be a good boy!" She says sharply. She looks back at Hayden. "Well you know, if you're still around obviously I won't, but you never can tell with these things."

Katie gives him a little smile. "Yeah. I said that to you already didn't I? I won't want to lose you altogether."

Katie nods and sits down on the sand. "Yeah I know. I'm sure we'll stay in touch somehow." She puts down some towels.
