ALICIA LENA TO STEP AWAY FROM THE MUSIC INDUSTRY! ‘The soulful singer-songwriter confirms that she plans to refrain from creating new music and performing for the foreseeable future to an audience in Europe’ By Culture Uncut
As her world tour comes towards its latter stages it was confirmed onstage in Germany recently by the musician that she will indeed be stepping away from the industry once her current tour has been wrapped up, the ‘Reign Over Me’ tour will have been presented to audiences for over 57 shows when it comes to its conclusion at the beginning of November and is rumored to have raked in an profit of over $30 million for the RnB superstar on top of her estimated fortune of $60 million. This confirmation has been widely expected from fans of Ms. Lena after she released her third studio album and subsequent tour with minimal promotion, her brief stint on ‘StarFactory’ also showed a truthfulness to her character as she opted to send her own act home (Ashley Grimmie) instead of an opposing act (The Devil You Know), but now it would appear that the highly respected star has made her mind up on her future and it’s a future that may not include a music career of any sort.
Quote: “These last few months … years even, have been truly incredible, it’s been the greatest time of my life and I have each and every one of you to thank for that. It’s the people like yourselves that purchase the music and come out to the live shows that deserve the praise, without you all I wouldn’t be able to make a career in the music industry and I honestly cannot thank you enough. However, I feel that the time is right for me to take a step away from the music industry, after four years that have brought me the greatest moments of my life and at 25 years of age in an ever evolving industry I feel like I need to take an extended break for the next couple of years at least.
One of the main reasons for this decision is because I have simply fallen out of love with the industry, to be part of a musical landscape that includes names like Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, Prince and so many other awe inspiring people is something that pushed me when I was attempting to break into the music industry, the music that those iconic figures crafted was the inspiration for getting into the industry and attempting to create songs that could someday stand alongside the likes of “Change Is Gonna Come”, “Like A Rolling Stone”, “It’s A Man’s World” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water” was the sole inspiration for trying to break out into the music world, I may have fallen short in my attempts to create songs that may someday be considered American classics but I can be proud of my efforts. However, having seen how the industry has moved within the past year has been a rather uninspiring and worrying thing. It’s no longer an industry that exudes class, dignity and respect. I wonder where the artists that believe that their words can have a lasting effect are right now, because I can only see a handful of musicians that appear to genuinely take their craft seriously, where are the Sam Cooke’s and Aretha Franklin’s of the future? I do some glimmer in the shape of a handful of artists and I hope that they can continue to make music they way that they have been doing so, with class and hopefully they can inspire the next generation in the right way. Here’s to hoping, at least.”
A number of Alicia’s fans have already taken to various message boards to discuss the topic and her reasons for her announcing her impending exit from the industry, a large portion of her fanbase feel disappointed in their favourite artist all but quitting the industry and others seem to think that the state of the industry isn’t the only reason for her announcement, some have said that the emergence of a relationship with her touring guitarist ‘Anthony Jackson’ around May this year could have played a part in her decision with the 25 year old perhaps feeling like it’s time for her to shift focus to a potential family, these are of course only rumors but it was confirmed by a housing agency in France recently that Alicia had purchased a new $15 million home in Monaco, which added fuel to the rumours that she’s looking to begin her family.
It’s an interesting move for the RnB singer who has recently gone some way to proving that she’s still as relevant a songwriter as any, with a track penned by Alicia Lena and given to Aubrey Mikkel to finish, titled ‘Fire’s Burning’ reaching #1 last week and according to insiders it would appear that the two are planning on doing a song together before the end of the year, with some fans seeing the possible collaboration as Alicia passing the torch onto the next generation of RnB superstar.
So it would appear that the door isn’t quite firmly shut just yet, but it looks like it will be ajar for the next year or two at least. |
