Jumping Trains Live Performance - Shine Ya Light

Pre-Show

It was the day of the first live show and there was a buzz in the air. Emotions and nerves where all over the place as a mixture of excitement and fear churned through everyone's stomachs. It had been a busy past few years for the members of Jumping Trains, having struggled to find work, breaking up and re-forming, changing line-ups and juggling school and work at the same time. They felt extreme pressure on them as the four best friends have been performing for a living and to go on stage, completely bomb and go home on the first night would be extremely embarrassing. Not to mention the fact that all the years of hard work would all be for nothing and to suddenly get this far and being told 'you're not good enough' would knock most people's confidence. Farrah and JJ wanted to make their family proud and knew how much it meant to them. They had been making banners, posters and t-shirts with messages of support on them for the past few weeks and showed high hopes for the group. Both Farrah and JJ knew that if they became successful and got some money out of the show, they'd treat their family rather than themselves as they were raised to put family first. Darryl had no interest in money or fame. He had no idea what he wanted to do with his life and didn't really have the brains to get him anywhere. He was a keen and very talented drum player though and since playing the drums with the band could lead him into an actual career and put an end to him living off of his parents' money, Darryl knew he had to step up and deliver. The eldest of the band, Ian, was in college and had a bright future but despite having good grades throughout his education and a variety of well paid, well respected careers available to him, Ian just didn't like the idea of an actual 'boring' job and wanted to do something that really makes him happy. Performing and being creative really put a smile on his face and if things didn't go well tonight, he'd have to go back to his mundane, uninteresting academic life.

After 'Jumping Trains' arrived at the Star Factory studies, they head to their dressing room to get ready for the show. Nerves started to get the better of Darryl and he complained of feeling sick. Whilst getting ready and thinking about their performance, the remaining three members (Farrah, JJ and Ian) started to worry. What if Darryl can't perform? What if they're told the can't go on without all 4 members? What if it's over before it's even begun? They knew that without him, they couldn't perform the song they had chosen. The group had picked a current chart hit that hopefully quite a few people will know and get them singing along. Also, it really fit their style. 'Jumping Trains' were mainly a R&B/Reggae-Fusion group with elements of pop and this song is exactly that. In past performances at local venues they had been praised for their stage presence and interaction with the audience. This gave the four young performers a little boost and raised their confidence for tonight's show as their charisma was just so natural and evident. However, with a massive crowd and being broadcast live on air, could the lead singer Farrah buckle under pressure and maybe performing in small clubs is all they're cut out for? With minutes to go, they couldn't think about that stuff anymore and just had to focus on the show.

The show had started and the group were first to perform. Darryl constantly had a bottle of water in his hand and often pressed it against his head. There was no doubt he was legitimately ill but being a good friend, he decided to take the risk and go on stage to play. The four were called to perform, there was no going back now. JJ blessed himself as he walked along the corridor, ready to take the stage. A runner hands him his guitar. Ian's keyboard and Darryl's drums were already set up on stage alongside Farrah's microphone. They heard their name being called out on stage and the cheering of the crowd. Each member looked at each other and smiled warmly, showing support. They made their way onto the huge stage and all took a deep breath

Farrah takes to the front of the stage and stands behind the mic stand which was set at its smallest height. People cheered and many gave the typical 'awwww' sound when they seen the small girl with large curly hair take to the stage. Darryl sits down at his drum kit which is further back. The other two members, JJ and Ian, stand in the middle of the stage around 8 feet apart. Ian has a keyboard at his side and also stands with a microphone as he sometimes sings back up vocals. JJ has a microphone next to him also as he sings sometimes. The lights in the venue dim down as the crowd continue to cheer. In the front row, a large number of their families and friends have shown up and are holding banners up which say things like 'We're Proud Of Jumping Trains, Jumping Trains To Win, 'Go Farrah!. The supporters also wear noticeable bright pink t-shirts with the band's name printed on the front in white text. Darryl raises his drumsticks above his head and gives four taps.

"LET'S GO!"

The crowd continue cheering but calm down a little to hear the first performance of the night. Ian starts to play on his keyboard. An old school, reggae vibe fills the room through the keys he's playing. JJ nods his head along to the beat as Farrah moves her hips side to side whilst holding the microphone stand and singing in a heavy Bajan accent similar to the likes of Rihanna however, Farrah's seems a little deeper and a lot easier on the ears. Golden lights shine on the stage as she sings the intro.

We gold, we gold, we shine
We gold, we gold, we shine
We gold, we gold, we shine
We gold, we gold, we shine

After the intro things pick up a bit. With more volume being added to the performance. Darryl starts to play the drums like his life depended on it, gently tapping the odd symbol every now and then, getting it on time on perfect with each strike. Ian seems to be lost in his keyboard playing, moving his head side to side with every key he plays. Farrah takes the mic out of the stand and really takes control of the performance. She walks forward a little, pointing to fellow judge, Hayden Merjos, as she sings the first lines.

UserPostedImage

Hey there, rock star
Turn up your radio.
I can hear you coming,
Start up the video.
You're still standing,
They'll never knock you down.
The beat never ending,
Let me hear your heart pound.

With the last line of that verse she makes a fist and gently bounces it off her chest. She then holds onto the mic stand with her right hand whilst singing into the mic in her left. Farrah looks out into the audience who are all enjoying the performance so far. In this segment, the drums become lighter in sound and JJ gently strums his guitar. Whilst singing the 'eh ah eh ah' sections, her voice becomes deeper and a little rougher as she sings from the throat. During the other parts; ('you are a shining star'/'no matter where you are'), Farrah sings in a fuller voice from the stomach. In the last line she points to the audience and moves her hand across, surveying the room.

Eh, ah, eh, ah
You are a shining star
Eh, ah, eh, ah
No matter where you are

UserPostedImage

She jumps up after that section and as soon as her feet touch the ground again, JJ plays some violent sounding chords and Darryl lets loose on the drums as it comes into the catchy chorus. Farrah puts one hand in the air and waves it side to side whilst singing in her strong accent. JJ joins her in the chorus and despite not being the lead singer, he has a lovely voice which doesn't overpower Farrah's and blends in nicely. Members of the audience copy the lead singer and sway their arms side to side. The stage lights also become brighter during the chorus.

Wo-oh, shine your light
Wo-oh, set the world on fire
Wo-oh, shine tonight
Wo-oh, set the world on fire

Farrah flips her hair back and smiles at the crowd; "Wooo! Right I wanna see all you put it down!

The next verse returns to the reggae sound and Ian plays similar keys that he did in the intro. Completely lost in it, it seems like he's forgotten that they're even an audience there and only focuses on the music. He even closes his eyes at some points and yet continues to play flawlessly. Farrah dips down whilst moving her hips side to side, looking at the judges. She slowly stands back up straight as she continues singing the verse, keeping her eyes on the judging panel. When it returns to the pre-chorus, Darryl plays lightly again so not to overpower Farrah's throaty vocals and to create a relaxed,, laid back sound to the song. Ian sings back up.

UserPostedImage

We going solar
Push up your lighters
Faster and faster
The sun rising higher

Eh, ah, eh, ah
You are a shining star
Eh, ah, eh, ah
No matter where you are

Again in the chorus, the sound becomes heavier and Farrah sways her hand side to side in the air the air again. One of the camera's come close to the stage and follow he as she walks along it a little. She looks directly into the camera and winks whilst singing the chorus the first time round. Before it repeats again she looks to the audience and speaks to them before whipping her hair once and getting right into it again.

Wo-oh, shine your light
Wo-oh, set the world on fire
Wo-oh, shine tonight
Wo-oh, set the world on fire

"COME ON, LEMME SEE THOSE HANDS IN THE AIR!"

Wo-oh, shine your light
Wo-oh, set the world on fire
Wo-oh, shine tonight
Wo-oh, set the world on fire

As the track breaks down into the bridge. JJ plays his guitar smoothly, creating a nice mellow tone however, Ian's repetitive 'funky' sounding notes on the keyboard give a real Caribbean flavour to the music, sounding very tropical and light, putting a smile on the audiences faces. Farrah walks forward and looks at the judges again whilst singing the bridge. She shakes a finger at the first line ('And we don't give up.....') and bends down a little, getting as close to the edge of the stage as she can. During this segments of the song she sings in the deep, throaty voice again apart from one line ('We are the winners cause we hold the world title') which she seems to belt out from her diaphragm. She makes an easy transition into the richer voice on the last line of the bridge.

UserPostedImage

And we don't give up till we run out of desire
Race to the finish and we never get tired
We are the winners cause we hold the world title
We started slow, but we beat you in the final

She stands back up and looks at the crowd whilst still singing her heart out. By this time, the supporters are going crazy and her mother is in tears. Farrah looks very happy that the performance is going well and can't help but sing with a slight smile on her face. Only JJ assists her with the guitar and even he plays lightly, giving her vocals a chance to really shine. On the last word; 'are', she holds it for a long time, belting it right out and closing her eyes and holding her head up towards the roof as she does so.

UserPostedImage

Eh, ah, eh, ah
You are a shining star
Eh, ah, eh, ah
No matter where you a-aaaaaaarrrrrrrreeeeeeee

Farrah suddenly jumps again as it smashes into the chorus. She sings with even more power than before and moves around the stage, hating staying still for more than two seconds. JJ also gives his all during the chorus.

Wo-oh, shine your light
Wo-oh, set the world on fire
Wo-oh, shine tonight
Wo-oh, set the world on fire

Farrah walks to the centre of the stage and looks out to the audience, believing in every word she is singing. Gold confetti falls gently around her as she draws the song to a close.

We gold, we gold, we shine
We gold, we gold, we shine
We gold, we gold, we shine
We gold, we gold, we shine

She places the mic back in its stand and smiles widely along with the rest of the band. The audience cheered and applauded the energetic performance. Farrah and JJ thank the crowd whilst Ian bows a little. Darryl smiles but remains silent due to still feeling ill.

Katie Coyle (Yeah, Tisha didn't show, so she's stepping in ;) ) : BID Wow, great performance guys. I love the song choice and the beat, and you have some real soul and class to what you're doing. I think we'll struggle to see anyone else on here with the swagger you guys have got, and that was really fun. "We gold, we gold, we shiiiiine." I've recently started working with some bands, and I feel like I could do something great for you, since it's something I focus a lot of my time on at the moment.

CRAZY HEARTED FOOLS – STARFACTORY SEASON 2
It Ain’t Me, Babe by Bob Dylan

UserPostedImage

At the announcement of the next act, the crowd inside the ‘Grey Ghost Concert Hall’ all go quiet in anticipation for the country-folk duo ‘Crazy Hearted Fools’. The surrounding lights dim, leaving just a couple of stage lights shining onto the center as both ‘Joseph Dylan Kennedy’ and ‘Tristan Holden’ make their way onto the stage and towards the center where the microphones are located. Tristan walks out wearing a white plain t-shirt, her hair tied back and an acoustic guitar slung over her left shoulder and standing next to her onstage is Joseph wearing a blue t-shirt with a brown jacket, his unkempt hair falling slightly in front of his eyes and with a darker shaded acoustic guitar hanging over his left shoulder also as they stand together at the center of the stage.
Joseph adjusts the microphone slightly and introduces himself and his musical partner in a raspy southern accent, “Good evening” he says to a smattering of applause and one lone wolf-whistle, “We’re called ‘Crazy Hearted Fools’ and uhhh … we’re gonna perform a song that uhhh … has a resonance to our own life and … umm, I’m sure some of your own lives too.” he says, evidently not much of a public speaker for the South Carolina native that has spent the majority of his brief adult life working on farms and other manual jobs, his female cohort then chimes in quickly with a softly spoken but beautiful tender southern tone, “Sometimes you fall in love and you let yur heart rule, and then some ways down tha line you realise that you can’t be the sorta person that that person needs and yur kinda stuck cause it’s always tough to let go of someone that you love, I’m sure many of you have been there before and this song sorta says everything you may be too afraid to say.” she quickly giggles in the softest of ways possible as she finishes speaking, and quickly adds, “It’s called ‘It Ain’t Me, Babe’”

And with that the two hold down a couple of strings of their acoustic guitars located towards the top end of the neck and pluck the lower strings further down the instrument and continue the motion in a repetitive fashion as they both begin to play the acoustic opening to the famous Bob Dylan track, plucking the strings continuously for the opening introduction and bringing their left hand up and down the neck of the guitar again in a repetitive fashion.
Joseph then leans in close to the microphone and takes the opening lines of the song and delivers it with a raspy and weathered southern rock tone to it, like a cross between Caleb Followill and Willie Nelson as he sings the opening;

“Go away from my window
Leave at your own chosen speed
I’m not the one you want, babe
I’m not the one you need”

Joseph then turns to look at Tristan as she’s also playing the acoustic guitar alongside her male counterpart, she smiles and they both then turn to look at the audience in front of them in the large concert hall tonight and as they continue to play the strings of the acoustic guitar in time with each other, they both tackle the next part of the song together with Tristan’s beautiful female country vocal delivering a contrast to the weathered sounding southern tones of Joseph as they sing together;

“You say you’re looking for someone
Who’s never weak but always strong
To protect you and defend you
Whether you are right or wrong
Someone to open each and every door
But it ain’t me, babe
No, no, no, it ain’t me babe
It ain’t me you’re looking for, babe

Go lightly from the ledge, babe
Go lightly on the ground
I’m not the one you want, babe
I will only let you down”

And as the mid-way point of the song comes, it’s Tristan who takes the lead as Joseph continues to play the simple chord progression of the song, he moves towards the far-right of the stage and steps to the very edge, waving his hand upwards slightly in an attempt to encourage the surrounding audience members at the front of the stage to make a little more noise as Tristan remains center stage, no longer playing the guitar, she takes hold of the microphone stand and tilts it closer towards her mouth as she sings with emotion;

“You say you’re looking for someone
Who will promise never to part
Someone to close his eyes for you
Someone to close his heart
Someone who will die for you and more
But it ain’t me, babe
No, no, no, it ain’t me babe
It ain’t me you’re looking for, babe”

And she loudly sings out the words, “Someone who will die for you and more” and stretches out the word “More” it makes way for Joseph to return to the center of the stage to carry on with the next lines of the song and then the two to sing in harmony once more throughout the final pre-chorus and chorus of the song, all the while playing the guitar again in combination with each other.

“Go melt back into the night
Everything inside is made of stone
There’s nothing in here moving
An’ anyway I’m not alone

You say you’re looking for someone
Who’ll pick you up each time you fall
To gather flowers constantly
An’ to come each time you call
A lover for your life an’ nothing more
But it ain’t me, babe
No, no, no, it ain’t me babe
It ain’t me you’re looking for, babe”

And as the song comes to its close, both Tristan and Joseph stand together, letting their guitars hang around their neck as Tristan places her hand on his shoulder and smiles at the crowd who appear to be cheering for the country duo. They then wait for Damion Holmes to make his way onto the stage and allow them to discover their fate in the competition.

Johnny: BID! You guys are what I came here looking for. You inhabit a part of the music world that I am very familiar with and you have a lot of talent. More than that though, you have the "it" factor. Your stage presence and your look is perfect. If you decide to go with me, I can give you access to the knowledge I've gained from experience, but also that has been passed down to me by others.

Tristan: tough choice, I think for the type of music that we do I think we're gonna go with Johnny, simply because of his experience and knowledge from years in the industry.

Layla Rae Cash - Live on Star Factory Season 2 - Week 1

The camera fades in to show a girl sitting on a chair in a studio, a wall with silver stars decorating it behind her. She has perfect platinum blonde hair, wavy and shoulder length, her perfect, flawless and smooth complexion showing a slight tan and the rosy tint in her cheeks from youthful exuberance and excitement. Her big, doe-like brown eyes shine almost as brightly as the perfect white smile which radiates brilliantly on the screen. She waits a few seconds, staring at the camera, before she looks just off screen and the smile fades a little.

“Oh was I supposed to speak just then?” She asks with a sweet voice, laced with a southern, strong country-styled Tennessee accent. She laughs a little as she brings a hand to her mouth, and someone off-screen yells “CUT!” at the top of their voice.

A snap board, bearing the legend “Layla Rae Cash – Pre-bidding interview – Take 2” is held up in front of the camera, and a loud beep is heard. The blonde girl looks at the camera again and waits a second or two before she smiles and nods slightly, taking a deep breath.

“Hiii,” comes the cute little country voice again. “My name is Layla Rae Cash, I'm 22 years old, and I was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee by my momma and daddy and my grandparents.” She looks at the camera again and laughs girlishly that she got it right this time.

The camera cuts to a picture of Layla as a girl, and as the scene zooms into her picture, the voiceover starts again.

“I had a pretty good life as a youngster. My momma and daddy both loved me very well and encouraged me to become as good as I could be by telling me to try my best in school always. But it was my granddaddy who always made me wanna be a singer. When my parents worked all summer long, I would visit my grandparents in their lodge at the lake, and me and granddaddy would sit and listen to his old Johnny Cash records by the lake all night.

“I fell in love with country music from there, and I spent the summer of my ninth birthday with a lil old tiny acoustic guitar, just learning some chords and stuff and tryin' to figure out how to play my favourite country tracks on it.”

The camera then cuts back to the main interview again, and Layla smiling her perfect smile at the screen. “From there,” she says, “I started playin' shows for my folks at the house, and they always told me I was good, but because I was always tryin' hard in school durin' the year and then movin' to the countryside in the summer, I never got the chance to play for many people.”

Music in the background then starts to play slowly and demurely as Layla looks down a little.

“I went to university after I left school for like four years and I learned a lot there, and in fact I became highly qualified....but it was the news I got after graduation last summer that changed my life.

“My granddaddy came to me at home, and he said “Layla...I got something to tell you honey.” And then he told me that he was fightin' cancer. He had known for a year, but he loved me so much that he decided not to tell me during my final year at university. I cried for a long time, and I told him that I would do anythin' that I could to make him be proud of me.”

She looks back up at the camera and wipes a small tear away.

“I decided then to audition on Star Factory, and I wanted my granddaddy to come with me. He always dreamed of seein' me on the stage, and so to be able to give him that chance to watch me perform in front of hundreds of people at the audition, it would be the best present I could ever give him.”

The camera cuts again to a black and white filtered view of Layla's audition for Star Factory, the voiceover still playing over the video.

“It was an amazin' feelin' to do that show, and I got an adrenaline rush to hear people cheer for me while I did my thing up there. I saw my granddaddy cry some tears of pride that day too.

“What I just never expected was to get the call some months later that told me I was movin' on to the live shows with the judges and the whole votin' thing. It was like, I went almost numb when they told me I was through to the live show. I called all my family and they were so proud, and I just had to let it all sink in that it was really happenin'.”

She smiles at the camera again.

“Now that I'm here for real, I'm nervous, I'm excited, but more than anythin' I'm eager to show what I can do. I know I won't win the show, or I don't expect to, because there will be some amazingly talented people here at the Star Factory, but I just want to show who I am, and above all, I wanna make my granddaddy proud of me. That would be my dream come true...”

The camera fades to black.

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome LAYLA...RAE....CASH!

A polite cheer and applause resonates around the Grey Ghost Arena as the stage goes dark, and the video screen on which her name and image had just been displayed fades out. Some lights come on to shower the stage in tiny little stars across the floor for a brief few seconds before they fade out again and a spotlight comes on at the back of the stage, bathing a silver staircase in a shimmering beam of white light and showing it glitter slightly in the brightness. The crowd is hushed as they wait for the appearance of the sweet and humble young southern country girl they have just seen on the big screens of the stage.

Just then, there is a quiet, gentle and slow strum on a guitar, and a soft, sweet voice gently sings "da-da-da-da-da-da" repeatedly for a few seconds, as a beautiful blonde girl, clad in a pair of shorts, high black boots and a black short-sleeved shirt steps out from the darkness to be washed over by the shining spotlight. As she sees the crowd for the first time, her smile spreads widely across her face, partially excitement, but also clearly a little self conscious and nervous in her demeanour. She takes a deep breath though as she continues to strum her black guitar slowly, the timid nature of the song clearly mirroring the modesty of the girl playing it.

She comes to a stop just in front of a microphone at the top of the stairs as she closes her eyes, readying herself to sing, with the nerves flowing through her as she tries to fight them down, never having had any experience of singing in front of a crowd this size at any time in her life before, never mind having to sing in front of five judges who she loves and respects so much for what they have achieved. She takes a deep breath as she prepares to allow her voice to be heard for the first time, as she continues to gently strum the quiet chords on her guitar, displaying a talent rarely seen among young wannabes on TV shows. She then opens her mouth, and as the first lines of Kelly Clarkson's Breakaway emanate from her throat, there is a cheer from the audience which causes her to smile slightly, her eyes still closed as she concentrates on getting over the nerves.

Her voice is soft and strong at the same time. It comes out of her mouth with a gentle sound, the words flowing together beautifully as she allows herself to naturally display her clear talent. Her voice is truly beautiful, with a sort of soft rasp that pushes home the country aspect of her character and musical styling, and after the initial swell of cheering, the audience goes almost hushed as they collectively sit listening to the almost perfect performance coming from a girl who had looked so nervous when she first stepped into the spotlight.

Grew up in a small town
And when the rain would fall down
I'd just stare out my window
Dreaming of what could be
And if I'd end up happy
I would pray (I would pray)

Trying hard to reach out
But when I tried to speak out
Felt like no one could hear me
Wanted to belong here
But something felt so wrong here
So I prayed I could break away

As she reaches the end of the second verse, Layla manages to open her eyes for the first time since she stepped onto the stage, her voice getting slightly stronger and more powerful as it builds to the crescendo ahead of the imminent chorus. When she sings the final line, her voice is accompanied by two backing singers down on the floor of the stage who harmonize perfectly with her, a far dimmer spotlight illuminating them as they stand there, holding onto their mic stands in long flowing black dresses.

As the chorus begins for the first time, there is a small drum fill between the two vocal sections, the first time it has been anything except just Layla's guitar playing, and at this sound, the stage lights come back on slightly to show a band at the back of the stage as they accompany her through the rest of the song. When the chorus comes, Layla's voice is far stronger and has a lot of depth and power behind it as she goes up in key to sing the higher and more emotional section of the track, her smile returning as she watches members of the audience in front of her swaying gently from side to side in time with her music. She scans across the crowd and then focuses on the judges at the front of the stage, still in her lofty position atop the stairs, as she smiles, the confidence in herself now far more evident as she allows a wry smile to cross her face when she sings, an edge of showmanship even managing to creep in as she strums her guitar with increased confidence and widens her stance a little to look far-less apologetic and nervous, the lyrics of the chorus clearly not just a song, but resonating with her as she draws from its inspirational words to look like a different girl all of a sudden.

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes til' I touch the sky
And I'll make a wish
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget all the ones that I love
I'll take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway

At the end of the chorus, her voice slows right down, and the guitars stop altogether momentarily, as the drums play a slow and subdued fill. At this point, Layla steps forward and quickly takes the microphone from its place atop the stand, swinging her guitar gently around to her back as she walks around the mic stand and to the top of the stairs, her personal spotlight following her and mirroring her every step. As the guitar begins again, this time not from her, she returns to the first part of the song again, singing the "da-da-da-da-da-da" section once more, but this time with a bit more vigour and confidence as she smiles her beautiful smile at the audience and judges watching her closely, stopping briefly to just brush one of the long waves of hair out of her face. She raises her microphone once more to her mouth as she takes another step forward.

When the next verse begins again, with just drums as backing this time, and the guitars remaining quiet, Layla begins to descend the staircase, taking each step slowly as she does so. Without the guitar to back her up, her voice is much more exposed and in the spotlight itself. This is a cunning ploy however, as it allows her to showcase the haunting and powerful element to her voice. She effortlessly commands and dominates the verse, even with only the drums to back her up, and it never feels as if she is being sold short by singing without the guitar. She smiles widely as she reaches the bottom of the stairs and walks towards the front of the stage.

As Layla gets to the front of the stage just in time for the second half of the verse and the chorus that is coming up, she puts the microphone on the stand that waits there for her, and she beams out at the crowd who she can hear a lot more clearly now. When the drum fill plays just before the second chorus, she shakes her head slightly from side to side in time with the music, clearly enjoying her time on the stage now a lot more than when she was plagued with nerves early in her performance. She looks up at the audience as she continues to sing the powerful chorus with the guitar on her back, her entire person a lot more exposed without the guitar as a physical barrier that she no longer has to hide behind. The confidence that pours out of her is evident now as her eyes and her smile shine brightly under the spotlight and she beams down at the judges watching her sing.

Wanna feel the warm breeze
Sleep under a palm tree
Feel the rush of the ocean
Get onboard a fast train
Travel on a jet plane, far away (I will)
And breakaway

At the end of the second chorus, as she sings the last line a lot slower, and her voice fades perfectly, Layla reaches behind her and pulls the guitar back in front of her again as she prepares to sing the bridge of the song. She smiles again as she lifts a pick from her mic stand and starts to strum as she sings the more edgy and quicker bridge, swaying slightly from side to side as she plays up to her deserved confidence a lot more than she was at the start.

She turns around slightly to look towards her band at one point during the bridge before turning back around to smile out at the audience, never missing a single note as she does so, and clearly now feeling a lot more comfortable and at home on the stage than she had done earlier in her performance. She raises her hand above her head as she reaches towards the end of the bridge of the track, and the melody slows once more. She closes her eyes gently once again as she sings the soft last line of the section, trying to fight away the big smile that now seems plastered to her face. She grins and the music comes to a halt for a few seconds, every member of the band going silent as the stage is plunged into darkness again, and the spotlight comes back on again, just illuminating Layla as she stands there quietly, still and silently with her eyes closed gently. She smiles to herself again as the crowd await the end of the song.

Buildings with a hundred floors
Swinging around revolving doors
Maybe I don't know where they'll take me but
Gotta keep moving on, moving on
Fly away, breakaway

UserPostedImage

Just then, there is a crescendo of noise from the darkness, as the drummer plays a loud and powerful drum fill intro to the last chorus of the song. At that moment, Layla opens her eyes again and grabs onto her guitar. As she and the band start to play again, the entire stage is suddenly bathed in a brilliant white light, bringing a loud cheer from the crowd. The key change to a higher tone makes the final chorus sound far-more epic than those that came before it, and Layla beams out once more as she drinks in the adulation. She bends her knees as she sings through the last chorus with a vigour and passion that showcases the strength and power she has in her voice, and she strums along on guitar along with the rest of the backing band. As they continue to play the final chorus, the screens behind Layla display her full name in massive letters. With this, and the fact that she commands the stage so well, it almost feels like this is one of her own concerts rather than a bid to secure herself a mentor for the rest of this competition. She smiles again at the judges.

I'll spread my wings
And I'll learn how to fly
Though it's not easy to tell you goodbye
I gotta take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget the place I come from
I gotta take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway, breakaway, breakaway

At the end of the chorus, for the last line, everything goes quiet one last time, as Layla is once more the only person on the stage visible in her spotlight. Once more, she repeats the word "Breakaway" slowly and quietly, before she strums her guitar for a final time and then smiles broadly at the massive and raucous reaction from the crowd in front of her. She beams out and brings her hands to her mouth in shock before she breathes a sigh of relief and wipes one or two stray tears from her eyes before she is joined on stage by Christina Ortega, whom she hugs and says something inaudible to, before returning her hands to her mouth again and finally blowing some kisses to the crowd, before turning towards the judges. It hadn't been the polished performance of a pro tonight, but rather the visual growth of a real talent who went from nervous rookie to a real performer in front of everyone's eyes to show that she has a wonderful voice, some excellent skills, and the major potential to go places.

Johnny: Awesome. Together we can prove to people that musicians like yourselves can still be viable in the industry today. I'm looking forward too it.
