BIO

born during a blizzard of biblical scope, teresa campbell was dropped into the world.
her mother was diana campbell,a high school librarian. while her father, vince campbell ran a local bakery. teresa was the quintessential daddy's girl and worked in the bakery from age 8 until.....well,she still works in the bakery. she can usually be found either decorating cakes or out on delivery. teresa is a notorious workaholic and is the type who is always doing about 30 things at once.
one of those things, turns out to be music.

teresa inherited a very weathered martin acoustic from her grandfather when she was 14. every free moment she had was spent playing that guitar, until finally she could hack together a recognizable cover of minor threat's "straight edge." which ,fittingly enough,is a theory teresa subscribes to. "i dont care what other people do. it's their choice.i'm not going to berate anyone for what they do or dont put into their body.i just expect them to respect MY choice." teresa explains. teresa learned on that acoustic, and never made the jump to an electric guitar. teresa's brand of music has a little something for everyone. it can be heartfelt and folky,it can be in your face punk rock, sometimes it's just plain fun,and she isnt afraid to let unabashed poppiness creep in.

FUN FACTS:
teresa is 5'5" tall.
she can touch her nose with her tongue.
allergic to guinea pigs.
first concert was atomic war bride's clockwork elvis tour.
member of mensa.
"may" is her favorite movie.

First show ever! I'd say it went ok...I played to an empty house.i am not exaggerating. Even the bar tender hadn't arrived yet. The venue was kind enough to give me a copy of the footage. You wanna see it?. Click below.

I'm going to keep this video. In a year,it'll either be side splitting or prophetic. It looks like I'm too poppy for punk venues, and too punk for pop venues...if such a thing exists, I can't see underground pop being a real thing.

this music thing is hard work.

when announcing my arrival to the world of music on that lovely invention, twitter, i had nichole shade talking to me. yes THE nichole shade.i love and admire the woman's work,so i thought i was in.after all, vile hour shot to success. i'd think the woman knows a thing or two about music. i think i was blinded by fan girl hormones and forgot... NOBODY HAS HEARD ME PLAY! i was rudely reminded at my first show tonight. nothing has changed, nobody heard me there either....except for a pig of a man with a weird fetish for bathroom stall....i really dont know what was going on,i tried not to look at the screen of his computer. there were urinals. no good comes of urinals, this is fact.i only got to play one song, one song!

it seems i'm "too poppy" for the venue. why does music have to fit into neat little compartments? because i sang one fun song,i'm the reincarnation of the osmands, and not fit to share the stage with "real" musicans? my band plays various horns, guitars and drums. i,myself can sing and play guitar,as well as piano.i think that qualifies me as a "real musican".ugh, closed minded people. it's like the people who say ALL hip hop is terrible. no,dummy. all the hip hop YOU"VE heard is terrible. at it's core, rock and hip hop are saying the same thing, and should be united....though,maybe not physically. nu metal was terrible and everyone knows it.just admit it,you'll be better for it.....i know,i know. you are probably thinking ."hmm,teresa. no,all the nu metal YOU'VE heard is terrible." if you are thinking that,i love you!

well, tomorrow it's back to working in the bakery.i've been waiting by the phone all night,no record label as swooped in and promised to set me up for life. rock and roll stardom remains elusive, but i'm not giving up that quickly. i'll D.I.Y if i have to. if venues wont take me,the world will be my venue. my acousic needs no power,i can play anywhere. enough ranting,my toenails are dry now. it's time for bed. night! love, teresa c

an update of a Teresa nature

Between getting signed and doing an Interview....i feel like a real musician now! So much so,I left my father's bakery and am taking the plunge into supporting myself through music. Rent is due in a couple of days,so lets hope I can make it! If not,can I sleep on your floor? I'll clean your house to earn my keep.

I'm gearing up for my first single.i think I wrote THE single at about 3:12 this morning. It should be interesting to see how it's received. It's to be titled,"don't" and will have "lets go!" As the b-side. It probably should be the other way around, but who's name is on the cover?
I should be recording soon. Looking through the big book o' recording,I found a pretty reasonable studio and producer. Rusty Cadillac studios aboard the duke of Winchester and erich Hess producing for the princely sum of......one six pack of beer. I know acts of hate used him to produce and it sounded great! Honestly,he kind of scares me but I need to be frugal!

"Don't" should be out by the end of the week.

whew.recording was sooooo much fun! Erich Hess,is perhaps one of the nicest people I've ever met. He even paid for my gas money to and from the duke! It was nerve wracking trying to sing while Ada Von wannemaker was in the room. Her album has been on endless repeat since I bought it..and there she was! She's so pretty. Pictures do not do her justice....by the end of the session,I was questioning my sexuality....moving on!

We recorded both songs in about 3 hours. We used some really old machines. I didn't know they even MADE analog tape anymore. I'm very happy with how the songs turned out. Thank you nomad records and erich Hess! I love you guys. You people want to hear the A-side? Of course you do! Click below.

artist: Teresa Campbell

Title: don't

Type: single.

Genre: ska

Format: 7" vinyl, mp3.

Label:nomad records.

Rating: 4 stars.

Track listing
A side: don't
B side: lets go!

Review courtesy of Italian wedding massacre magazine.
coming out of Baltimore,Maryland is Teresa Campbell. I'm not sure what she is supposed to be. The A side,"don't" is catchy and upbeat....until you listen to the words. Its a song about a rape, sung from the victim's point of view. The disturbing lyrics, and yes...it does become hard to listen to towards the end, contrasted with the frenetic and peppy horns is...interesting. Especially considering this is slated for radio airplay. Teresa comments, " I know people are going to compare this to "date rape" by sublime. I guess there are some similarities...they're both ska songs about rape. But mine offers the scenario that sometimes revenge isn't had, justice doesn't come down like a ton of bricks. Sometimes the bad guy does get away. Also, this song isn't about me or anyone I know. I was day.....maring ? about what it would be like, and this is what I came up with."

The B side would be a better radio choice. "Let's go!" Lets go is a typical 3rd wave ska sounding song. Very poppy and easy to dance to, the chorus..,,you'll know it when you hear it ,Is sure to be embedded in your subconscious for weeks at a time. You'll find yourself humming it while taking a shower or....during intimate time. ( guilty!) Teresa's comments: " I love fun songs! Sometimes you just have to throw up your hands and say enough is enough,I wanna dance. That's what "let's go!" Is. It makes no assumptions to "be art" or "say something". It's made to be played loud and proud. "

All in all,a very good start for a unique young lady..

don't
I don't wanna
You say we're gonna.
Please
Stop
Don't.

There is no words for the chorus, just a slowing down of the instruments to the disjointed and almost out of tune intro riff.

The music picks back up Going into the next verse.its slightly more frentic and Teresa's voice becomes less accusing and far more panicked.

You say it will feel good...for you.
You say I really want it
You Say nobody will believe me.

The slow " chorus " is played again.the next verse becomes faster, yet Teresa's voice doesn't increase in tempo.she sings in a full on panic now. The horns increase in volume as well,so she is fighting to be heard over them.

You know it's wrong.
My screams for help only turn you on.
Just stop,please. I promise I won't tell.
Just please stop!

Now the "chorus" doesn't slow. The horns just become more chaotic. When the next verse starts, the chaotic horns continue, yet Teresa's sings in a very soft and broken voice.

I didn't have too much to drink
My shirt isn't cut too low
My skirt isn't too short
I didn't lead you on.
You feel entitled to what isn't yours.

The horns finally reach a fever pitch before pausing. When they start back up,it's the slow and grinding intro riff. When Teresa finally sings, its a near whisper.

You laugh then everything goes black
I wake up with no teeth.
And it hurts when I breathe.
They say it will be weeks before I can walk.
I'll remember you always.
but to you,I was just another conquest.

The outro is short and chaotic, ending abruptly.

sounds like (but with monique powell singing obviously):

let's go
Lets go!

*drum roll into into ska type guitar for a few measures, then the horns come in*

"Lets go!
Gonna dance all night,
Gonna Give the neighbors such a fright.
Jiggle and wiggle to that skanking beat.
Toss your head and move those feet.

La....la ...la... Ladee dee da.
La....la....la....ladee dee da
La
La
La.....lets go!"

"Put those headphone on.
We gotta bop till the break of dawn.
Hold me close,feel my breath
Tomorrow the worlds gone,
Tonight's all we have left.

La....la ...la... Ladee dee da.
La....la....la....ladee dee da
La
La
La.....lets go!"

*trombone solo.

La....la ...la... Ladee dee da.
La....la....la....ladee dee da
La
La
La.....lets go!

Teresa y u no smile?

that pic is why i seem to never smile.it makes me look condescending. i am not,of course.i just have lips that dont wanna look happy. i guess i could tape them up. a huge thanks to everyone who purchased "don't". i love each and every one of you. seriously, you leave me your address and i will personally deliver a "thank you" cake to you. to date,it's moved near 30,560 copies! not too shabby for a little girl from Baltimore. thanks to you fine people,i dont have to turn tricks to keep a roof over my head. thank you sooooo much. i was starting to worry and was looking into the best knee pads for my dollar.

with two recorded songs under my belt,i think i'm ready to take the plunge into my full length debut. i learned a lot during the recording of "dont". the music industry really is as dirty and underhanded as people say it is. oh well,i guess i had to learn sometime, right? my newer material wont be as dark as "dont". i know a lot of people didnt like the peppy music combined with the subject matter. we'll just have to see where the mood takes us,right? tomorrow night,i'm playing the culture room in ft lauderdale. i'd love to see you out there, doors open at 7,i go on at 7:30. byeeeeee!

today i was settling down with my evening bowl of ramen and a copy of chaos magazine. i know how to kick up my heels,or what? lo and behold i find a mention of me!.......as an answer to "who's the worst person you ever met". jeez. that is like a stake to the heart. usually that is reserved for your stalins, pol pots, nicolas cages. i was called the worst person ever by erica hess. erica hess?! music's sweetheart thinks i am a terrible person? if erica hess doesnt like you, that's like jesus not liking you. some serious soul searching is usually in order. so here in the teresa cave i sat. chewing on ramen and going over what i've done. so.....

a public apology to ada von wannemaker.
i know you said it was too little, too late. but i hope you do forgive me. i said terrible things, ill timed things and generally was...well,the worst person ever. i implied things about your husband, which of course never happened. erich was nothing but a gentleman when working with me. yes,i knew exactly what i was doing and how evil it was. you are a credit to self control for not clocking me in the car instead of just making me get out.i was wrong for taking a little ..spat,and taking it where i did. it was wrong to bring up such personal issues that i'm sure you rarely even speak of to those closest to you. i dont expect to be invited over for tea and american idol anytime soon, but i am sorry.

Ada: Your apology is accepted, but this is the last that I expect of our correspondence. You said unbelievable things. Things that I would never say to even my worst enemy. You had known me for maybe 24 hours, and you said them. There is something bitter and upset inside of you, and I do not want to be around it. I appreciate the apology. Goodbye.
