coming out of Baltimore,Maryland is Teresa Campbell. I'm not sure what she is supposed to be. The A side,"don't" is catchy and upbeat....until you listen to the words. Its a song about a rape, sung from the victim's point of view. The disturbing lyrics, and yes...it does become hard to listen to towards the end, contrasted with the frenetic and peppy horns is...interesting. Especially considering this is slated for radio airplay. Teresa comments, " I know people are going to compare this to "date rape" by sublime. I guess there are some similarities...they're both ska songs about rape. But mine offers the scenario that sometimes revenge isn't had, justice doesn't come down like a ton of bricks. Sometimes the bad guy does get away. Also, this song isn't about me or anyone I know. I was day.....maring ? about what it would be like, and this is what I came up with."
The B side would be a better radio choice. "Let's go!" Lets go is a typical 3rd wave ska sounding song. Very poppy and easy to dance to, the chorus..,,you'll know it when you hear it ,Is sure to be embedded in your subconscious for weeks at a time. You'll find yourself humming it while taking a shower or....during intimate time. ( guilty!) Teresa's comments: " I love fun songs! Sometimes you just have to throw up your hands and say enough is enough,I wanna dance. That's what "let's go!" Is. It makes no assumptions to "be art" or "say something". It's made to be played loud and proud. "
All in all,a very good start for a unique young lady.. don'tI don't wanna
You say we're gonna.
Please
Stop
Don't.There is no words for the chorus, just a slowing down of the instruments to the disjointed and almost out of tune intro riff.
The music picks back up Going into the next verse.its slightly more frentic and Teresa's voice becomes less accusing and far more panicked.
You say it will feel good...for you.
You say I really want it
You Say nobody will believe me.The slow " chorus " is played again.the next verse becomes faster, yet Teresa's voice doesn't increase in tempo.she sings in a full on panic now. The horns increase in volume as well,so she is fighting to be heard over them.
You know it's wrong.
My screams for help only turn you on.
Just stop,please. I promise I won't tell.
Just please stop! Now the "chorus" doesn't slow. The horns just become more chaotic. When the next verse starts, the chaotic horns continue, yet Teresa's sings in a very soft and broken voice.
I didn't have too much to drink
My shirt isn't cut too low
My skirt isn't too short
I didn't lead you on.
You feel entitled to what isn't yours. The horns finally reach a fever pitch before pausing. When they start back up,it's the slow and grinding intro riff. When Teresa finally sings, its a near whisper.
You laugh then everything goes black
I wake up with no teeth.
And it hurts when I breathe.
They say it will be weeks before I can walk.
I'll remember you always.
but to you,I was just another conquest. The outro is short and chaotic, ending abruptly.
sounds like (but with monique powell singing obviously):
let's goLets go!
*drum roll into into ska type guitar for a few measures, then the horns come in*
"Lets go!
Gonna dance all night,
Gonna Give the neighbors such a fright.
Jiggle and wiggle to that skanking beat.
Toss your head and move those feet.
La....la ...la... Ladee dee da.
La....la....la....ladee dee da
La
La
La.....lets go!"
"Put those headphone on.
We gotta bop till the break of dawn.
Hold me close,feel my breath
Tomorrow the worlds gone,
Tonight's all we have left.
La....la ...la... Ladee dee da.
La....la....la....ladee dee da
La
La
La.....lets go!"
*trombone solo.
La....la ...la... Ladee dee da.
