OOC: I love this. Your way of writing is so perfectly snarky. If you want to review ADA, review away. You will not hear any complaints from me. ;)

Magie: Thank you so much for the 'special moment' section you guys placed our very last single. reading it made me think about a lot of good moments.

Julia: I appreciate your review to my new single and I do hope I'll make people change their minds when they'll hear the word 'vampire'.

OOC: Thank you so much for taking the time to write about my acts. ;)

OOC: No problem. Other than Clara Thompson i plan to take a break from any serious work with my artists so I'll probably have time to do a lot of these. I'm glad everyone is enjoying it. And yeah, snarky is exactly what I was going for. I might take a swing at reviewing it this weekend unless I get swamped with something else.

Recent News/Releases 1/12/13

Moving Mountains
Aimée Rose
Chaos Records
Our Score: 4/5

UserPostedImage
For a first taste, a debut singles, an artist has to put everything they have into a single for it to really shine and not be just forgotten in the endless storm of music that critics listen to on a daily basis. Readers and artists always want to know some secret formula that makes a song good and memorable, but usually it just is so. As is the case with Aimee's debut "Moving Mountains". The piano riff that the song is build around is simple. The song itself is built around no more than five chords and has no immense layers of sound. The lyrics are a mixed metaphor of mountains while somehow filling a whole hook with something about bees and thorns. But the song has the magic about it that makes it wonderful. Aimee's voice is fantastic and the simple arrangement makes that clear. It's well produced and well done. It takes something to make a song that people actually would want to hear a lot and like and whatever it is this song has it.

Don't
Teresa Campbell

Liberation/Nomad Records
Our Score: 2.5/5

Umm.. What? A crazy ska song about being raped with horns and guitar all over the place? And this is actually being released and promoted in the year of 2013? Yes it is. Picked up by Nomad Records, Teresa Campbell is unlike well anything you're likely to hear. In fact you may not even hear her unless you go out of your way to do so but she put out the single so we shall review it anyway. It would be great fun to see ska revived. Teresa Campbell doesn't seem the most likely to revive it, but stranger things have happened: I mean Suzie Stockholm is still somehow relevant and not a drug addicted, sex-tape releasing has been so I lost that bet. But back to Teresa: "Don't" isn't bad. It also isn't anything I would jump up in down for... Unless I was at her concert in which case jumping up and down would be the appropriate response. Regardless we should all keep an eye out for what she does next.

Blinded By the Weakness

Certainly the highest profile new release this week is Cristina Lake's "Blinded By the Weakness". It doesn't dissapoint. Just listen to the percussion in this song. The indie-pop track is unique and dynamic. Cristina's voice joins the jungly drums to create the perfect mood that you could dance to, hear in the mall, blast while driving down the freeway, or just turn on at home. The epic semi-ballad tackles Cristina's past depression while being both a dark song but also being uplifting. This song is something to get excited about: we at Max-Volume sure are excited.

Other News/Releases

Where are all the guys? Apparently not releasing any new singles this week. Daniel did announce his next album which is titled "XXX Party". What could go wrong? Jennifer Armstrong also announced her next album, "Twenty-Three". Our Name is Stars's debut album was also released but reviewing albums takes time and effort. I mean I know its my job but seriously it was produced by Ryan Ross Hernandez and by the band that brought us "Grandstanding and Bravado" so I'll just give it 4 out of 5 stars and move on with my day. Chaos Magazine announced they'd be returning so goodbye readers: it was nice to have you. In other recent releases two pop newbies released their debut quite recently. Kourtney released "Shut Me Out" and Katrina Wild (Because obviously Katrina Wild is a real name) released "Bold".

OOC: I'll be doing more of these little reviews, but I want to still do some conventional issues with a cover and cover stories. So I want all of you to send me your ideas for cover stories or just articles. I dont have time to read everything that goes on at TRSG so I wouldnt be able to pick the best stories. So basically if you would like me to write an article about your artist send me an idea using the guidelines below.

Max-Volume Article Idea
What artist is it about? What is his/her/their face claim?
What is/are the characters like?
What has the artist done recently? Plans for the future?
What would the article be about? What would be interesting about it?
Link to artist's website:

Basically I'm doing this so I can evaluate whether or not I can write an interesting article about the artist because in the past I've chosen someone to write an article about but found there isn't very much to write about. I'd really love some participation with this because writing for Max-=Volume is a blast but doing it all alone isn't something I have time for. As always if anyone wants to just write an article on their own go for it and then drop me a PM.

New This Week 1/19/13

So Pretty, So Lonely
Vile Hour

Chaos Records
Our Score: 3/5
Stream Here

UserPostedImage
Any ballad by any artist, I dont care if you're Stephanie Fierce, Jason Smith, Ryan Ross Hernandez or the guy down at the corner playing for spare change, is at risk of being boring, cliche, sappy, slow, and altogether a drag. Just because a song is slow and emotional doesn't mean it's good. But although Vile Hour is many things they are certainly not boring. Nichole Shade sings about her own death in a ballad that is beautifully uncomfortable and evil. It's over-the-top and at any given moment while listening to the song I can't decide if I hate it or want to take it home and make sweet love to it. The lyrics go from nostalgic to awkward to confusing. But it sure as hell isn't boring. And sometimes I actually like it.

Amerika
Shadowmachine

Liberation/Nomad Records
Our Score: 2/5

UserPostedImage
For anyone who has been wanting a political and socially charged rock song about america written by a Canadian then this is the song for you. If you like to listen to songs that make sense, are relevant, and dont have a pretentious trying to be underground and rebellious vibe then I suggest something else. I hear methamphetamine is popular. Afterall it's something from Canada that Americans actually want. The problem with Shadowmachine's debut single is mostly that it wreaks of trying too hard to be the next protest song or be clever. The band by Trent D'Amour has potential still. The industrial rock song isn't even terrible. The singing is good enough. The production is good. The beat is addicting. But it just doesn't all fit together. It is too hateful. Sing it to all the bitter punk kids and I'm sure it'll be a hit just like meth but yes we get that America is full of massively-egoed-big-cock-owning clusterfucks... Bob Dylan tolds us much more elegantly than any industrial rock group in 2013. Sorry. Try again later.

How Did We Get Here?
Riot! in the Boulevard

North Hill Records
Our Score: 4/5

UserPostedImage
Rock's hardest working band has another single. It's a Riot! Musically it's nothing we haven't heard from Riot! in the Boulevard before. Riffage and power everywhere. Amy Meyer sings like its the last song she will ever sing. It is well mixed and fans will love it. But in 2013 what does the famously "teenage" rock band write about? Well "How Did We Get Here?" is a all about the music industry. Because there are a thousand things I like more than Tisha Jackson and one of them is a song that at times could be about Tisha Jackson. The song is fun. Amy Meyer's voice is beautiful as always. And music industry insiders can laugh out loud listening to the lyrics and thinking of all the nut-jobs that our industry attracts. Riot! made a song that was appropriate for them too as they have been shot to stardom in a short time. The song is very real. While it isn't about to get praise for being the next big thing, or being incredibly unique it is incredibly strong. A good song by a great band.

Chaos Awards VII - Our Response
UserPostedImage
It was Chaos Awards Day. The day the music world dresses up and artists are forced to act civilized unlike the drunk, mentally unstable, and agoraphobic people that most artists truly are. It's always a fun time! It started with Chaos bossman Scott RH introducing the show and then it was off! A few hours of fun. We'll tell you who won, who didn't, who got snubbed, and who really just needs to lay off the crack.

It started with Simco, or psycho, or Sin Cosine, or something like that. I remember they had bows on and it felt like a dream and after it was over I was just questioning the existence of our species. But after such a performance no one would be questioning his life decisions more than Scott. afterwards Isabel came on stage to co-host and acted extremely like a little girl saying "super" every few words. The girl from Stinko or whatever the group was called showed up and it was a super drag. I was waiting for them to start roasting everyone there but they didnt. Luckily I prepared something I call "If I hosted Chaos VII":

Quote:
Well here we are. Lots of guests here. Lots of famous ones. We've got all kinds of age ranges. Kato is here, one of the youngest guys here. he also was nice enough to bring his grandma.... Oh sorry I'm being told that's just Stephanie Fierce! I'm also being told they aren't related. Hmm... Well we've got lots of other guests tonight. Serenity Scott is here. Sara Daniels is here. Suzie is here and she brought her breasts too. Mmmm... God I miss her breasts sometimes. Glad to see them again Suzie. Gia Rose-Hilton is here with studio60 records. She even brought her poodle... Ooops thats just Layla Raine... Well thats awkward. Isabel is here tonight. I imagine its kind of awkward for her. It's like shes here and so is everyone else who released a record last year. Tension... TopLADs are also here. Stay sexy, boys. It's always a good morning if its starts with you guys. Will. Rocca is here. Hard Sugar is here. Reported Failure is also here. I find it funny that they still show up even though we know they never win anything. They're getting old though. Only a few more before they're dead. Speaking of death, Daniel is here, and he actually brought a rotting corpse. oh I'm being told that's just Stephanie Fierce? My condolences of course go to Kato for the loss of his grandma. May she rest in peace. Also here is Tisha Jackson and her haircut. I didn't realize TopLADs was adding a fifth member. James and Gemma Urie are here too. Damn... I'd like to film what that looks like after the show. Also here is a new star, Kourtney. I'm sorry Kourtney if you haven't gotten the jokes. Stephanie Fierce is one of those things you read about in whats called a history book: You know all the greats George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Stephanie Fierce. May she rest in peace. We lost a true treasure. Wait I'm being told shes not dead. Hmm.... Well like I said Tisha Jackson is here too so we'll see how long that lasts.

after the intro by Isabel and the girl from the group I think is called Scripto, Studio 60 won for best label. No surprise. Who got snubbed? North Hill Records. Not even a nomination for them. Ryan's ego will be so hurt. Then it was time for best urban act. Chaos chose Tisha Jackson for some reason. Maybe sympathy? Like "Sorry we know Max-Volume will publish hate articles wether you win or not so have this award so that the day doesn't suck". Yeah thats it. It should've been Aubrey Mikkel or Isaac Lovelock, but whatever, there's always next year.

Then Aimee Rose wowed everyone with her performance. I was seriously impressed. After that Scott made me laugh by calling Neveah out over the intercom and talking about her ass. At least someone besides me is being rude today. Then Misery Loves Company won best indie/alternative act... Yes because making a couple mediocre records then breaking up is totally worth praise. Meanwhile Our Name is Stars got snubbed big time at the awards and not just in this category which they or Vile Hour at least should have won but MLC? Really?

After this Chaos did get something right by giving best rock/metal act to Riot! in the Boulevard. For some reason Reported Failure was announced as a nominee twice, probably because someone wanted the pleasure of watching them get snubbed twice. But Riot! deserved it the most and won. Good job Chaos! Then Mykaylah happened and I am now in denial wishing it wasn't real but alas, no one said the performers were any good. Gotta love a diva every once in awhile.

After this Chaos gave Nadia Berry another paperweight which I guess was cool for her? But now she has another mic that doesn't actually plug into anything sitting around her house. So I guess she might rather melt them down and have a sword made for when she eventually loses it and has to stab Ryan Ross Hernandez. Congratulations to them on the wedding announcement. Who else got snubbed? Electrodeath. They're gone now probably forever and Chaos was like Electrowho? Oh death? Yeah them.... Ehh no thanks. THen Weekend won for best music video. I would comment but I spend too much time being a pompous hipster to watch Weekend music videos so I'm going to assume its the right choice because those boys are hot.

Then Reported Failure performed. It was awkward. I dont understand why they're playing or even going to award shows. Billie Beckett had an outburst and yelled "fuck the chaos awards" as well as many other forms of nonsense and then everyone felt uncomfortable. I guess he's finally a real rockstar seeing as he's lost his mind. Then Isbel and jacob Estrada won best collaboration because ya know screw Isaac Lovelock hes not important. Shall we add him to the list of people who got snubbed? I think yes. Katie Coyle then won best songwriter. The girl takes almost all of 2012 off from music and then beats out everyone else. But then she is Katie Coyle and Katie Coyle is just that good.

Then it was Eilidh Greene and Dustyn Blue's turn to host. They were just as awkward as Isabel and that girl from Sims Co. Julia Volkova won sexiest female because she was topless in her latest album cover. No other really good reason but thats the best reason she needs. Kato won sexiest male. His grandmother must be so proud. Then it was Jennifer Armstrong's turn to perform. She was actually entertaining. She didn't have a mental breakdown or anything.

After that it was time for best single. MLC again. I dont know why exactly Chaos went Misery Loves Company crazy for the awards. Our Name is Stars got snubbed again. I dont understand it. But whatever. MLC fans just send me the hate mail now. Then Isabel won best album. It was good for her. After losing the category at the Fans Choice Awards despite her album being the hottest thing all year it legitimized her chart success and her place in the industry. Big congratulations to her even though Abie Lena got snubbed. She was another big snub this year.

Then It was Riot! in the Boulevard. They delivered a killer acoustic set. They proved themselves again as a force in the industry. Aubrey Mikkel won best newcomer which was deserved but of course ournameisstars. was snubbed again. Poor guys. Riot! in the Boulevard won best band which was appropriate. Then Blood of Wecz reminded us all why we love rock and roll in one of the best sets I've seen at an awards show ever. It was a super fun time! They were great.

Isabel then won best female artist. It was over. Well I guess I'll see you all next year. Here's our list of stuff.

Best moment: Blood of Wecz
Biggest Winners: Isabel & Riot! in the Boulevard
Biggest Snub: Ournameisstars.
Wtf moment: Billie Beckett cusses out the audience

ATTENTION MAX VOLUME READERS
We've had a jolly good few months at Max-Volume doing some lists and random reviews but now its time to return to the standard cover issue! We have two artists lined up for reviews already. The glory of having their face on the cover of a magazine will be granted to several lucky artists! Get ready world. Max-Volume is back!
