TRACK 2 - THE BEST THAT I CAN BELuke Striker, the North Carolina born singer who links the likes of Ryan Ross Hernandez, Misery Loves Company and Reported Failure as some of his inspirations has been trying desperately to break into the music industry for almost 4 years and finally got his big break, in 2012.
After releasing a track called "Sorry Again" as his debut single, this young, handsome and very talented "ladies man" went viral. This however, still didn't get the attention of any labels that were around at the time. Fine, that's not a problem as independently Luke Striker released his next single off of his upcoming album, a song called "Come Back Home Someday" a slow and captivating soft rock jam that sprung all the way up the Digital Charts at a shocking #2 and even managed to break into the radio charts and once again Luke was behind the mind of every female digging his look, or every man who could relate to his tales of heart break. And finally, he was contacted by Studio 60 to sign a record deal. And that's where this proclaimed "Striker Domination" has started.
Months after the release of "Come Back Home Someday", it was important to Luke not to become a one hit wonder and although not nervous about it, it must always be at the back of ones mind when they are signed to a label and so much is actually expected out of them. "Your Conflicted Heart" which features vocals from songstress Jennifer Armstrong took a more mainstream and radio friendly approach mixing in aggressive guitar chords, emotional vocals and a harmonious backing beat, became an instant hit topping the radio charts on two separate occasions as well as topping the charts in many countries, becoming his most successful single to date.
He didn't stop there however, his single "Everybody Wants You" came after, and once again, topped the Radio Charts two weeks ago, and was knocked off this week, by his OWN single in "Your Conflicted Heart" as it rose up spots and ultimately knocked "Everybody Wants You to the #2 spot, is this history being made?
"The Best That I Can Be" is nothing less than an inspiration, slow paced and beautifully harmonizing track that jumps back to the early days of Luke Striker. The song may be linked and compared to his earlier songs in "Sorry Again" and "Come Back Home Someday", that actually gives us a sigh of relief, making us realize that the mainstream in Luke, has NOT completely taken over him. But also shines and sits comfortably in the more Indie/Alternative market and sound, showing us just how versatile Luke is. Check out his quote from months ago:
Luke Striker wrote:I'm just really excited for it. I have been recording non stop and I just cannot wait to release it. Because I think it's an incredible album. I don't want people to think I'm one dimensional and will only stick to the soft rock and alternative stuff, but I also wanted to explore into pop rock, take a look at Come Back Home Someday, and Your Conflicted Heart. They're two different types of songs, with similar topics but for two different purposes, with Your Conflicted Heart being more for radio. With this album, I want people to not be fed the same thing, I want it to be an enjoyable listen, not a boring one so the ones who were there from the beginning and loved my debut track in Sorry Again, as well as Come Back Home Someday wont be let down and the ones who love Your Conflicted Heart will also enjoy the album. I must say, I'm really surprised with not only how amazing and incredible things have been, but I'm surprised in how well the album actually turned out and I'm really, really excited for people to hear it. It's done, just a few more things to be recorded and I think where ready to go.
The track features slow electric guitar chords that sprinkle throughout the delicate nature of the track, aided with lightly tapping drums. Luke lays his vocals to the track and it mixes perfectly. Luke slowly rides through the song, singing about him striving to be the best that he could be. "I'm a small town boy from Jacksonville| Tryin' to make it up this hill". He coos out singing about his transition from a small town boy trying to make it up the "hill". We don't wait to ramble on, so take a listen for yourself and tell us what you think about Luke's "The Best That I Can Be". It keeps getting better and better as you listen, give it a go. Listen below!
Quit whilst you're ahead. That's what they all seem to say
I don't think they understand how much this means to me
Spent so much time getting to where I am, why surrender and put down my arms?
Battled the barriers, still fighting the wars and ready to take on a whole lot more
Sick and tired of what people have to say, gonna clear the road, so I can make my way
I've been down, I've been down but I'm used to being hurt
I've been low, I've been low but I always get right back up
Give me your worst
I'm a small town boy from Jacksonville, trying to make it up this hill
I don't wanna look behind, I just focus on the climb, forget about the dangerous fall
One day, I will get there, reach the top and take in the air
It's a long hard road but I can take what life throws at me
I just get by being the best that I can beYou can't do it, you're so foolish. Why can't they change the record?
So I'm gonna prove it, I'm gonna make it, show them that I cannot be bettered
They try to derail me, shake me, make my life a total misery
Brush them off and play it cool, not gonna let them tell me what to do
I thank you for the harsh words, they made me stronger in every way
I've been hurt, I've been hurt but I just carry on
Just look up, just look up I'm never gonna come down
Give me your worst
I'm a small town boy from Jacksonville, trying to make it up this hill
I don't wanna look behind, I just focus on the climb, forget about the dangerous fall
One day, I will get there, reach the top and take in the air
It's a long hard road but I can take what life throws at me
I just get by being the best that I can beOne thing you all seem to forget
Is that I've kept on going, haven't gave up yet
With all the thrown in my way, I've lived to tell another day
There's an easy path that I can take
But I'm gonna try hard, it'll be worth the wait
Sometimes it gets a little tough but I love the fight, can't get enough
I'm getting by just being me, being the best that I can be
I'm a small town boy from Jacksonville, trying to make it up this hill
I don't wanna look behind, I just focus on the climb, forget about the dangerous fall
One day, I will get there, reach the top and take in the air
It's a long hard road but I can take what life throws at me
