GirlSpice, also known as evryone's favourite guilty pleasure, are back on the scene with "Kiss Me" which has had an amazing response. How have you girls found it? It's literally crazy how after all these years, we're still able to put music out and people will get so excited over it, and the funny thing is, we're always just as excited as the fans! These days, we make it a rare happening when we put stuff out as a group, because we all have our own things going on, so I think it keeps things fresh.
Is this an official comeback then? Sadly not! I knew the Sweet Unknown soundtrack was being put together and I had the idea of getting GirlSpice on it, so I contacted Kimberly first and she started writing the early parts to "Kiss Me" straight away, she's a great pop writer. I managed to get hold of the other girls and we all met up in the studio and wrote our own parts and finished the whole song in a night. But the fans have to remember this was only done for the purpose of the soundtrack, there is no new album. Sorry!
What about yourself, have you started recording more solo material? Slowly but surely, I'm starting to get a feel of what I want the next album to sound like and such. I'm thinking of getting my fiance to produce it, or at least some of it, because I think he could nail the sound I've got in my head. I've also really upped my guitar skills in the past year, and I really wanna put that on show, so I'm looking forward to starting work! Ideally, I'd like it to be out later this year, we'll see.
Does it feel weird saying fiance yet when referencing Ryan? Oh, you don't wanna know! (laughs) It's very weird, I've referred to him still as my boyfriend a few times, it'll be something I have to get used to, definitely.
How have the wedding plans been going? Very well! We've got a date, but we're not telling. It'll be a very private ceremony, something elegant and classy, but still relaxed and laid-back, you know? I just want the few family members and friends who'll be there to just enjoy the day with us. I don't want a massive fuss, like... we don't want thousands of people there and a big exclusive deal with some magazine for wedding pictures and blah blah blah.
You seem to be more than comfortable with showing off your body, is working out a big part of your daily life? Definitely, I think if you take care of yourself and make sure that you're at your best, it really helps with your confidence, which is a must in this industry. I have a gym at my home in Montana, so I'm definitely in there a lot of the time, I'm kind of a gym rat, I love working out. Sadly, looks often come first over talent these days, and hey, a girl can only but try to have both, right? (smirks)
A lot of people see you as a sex symbol, would you agree with that? Sex symbol?! Sometimes I'll do a sexy shoot and feel a little stupid, like, who is this girl kidding? She's not sexy at all! (laughs) No, I've never heard anyone refer to me as that, so I don't think I'm a sex symbol. Maybe someone like Suzi, I've heard she has her own sex doll out.
Perhaps a version of your own that you'd consider releasing? Definitely not! I just wouldn't feel comfortable knowing that somewhere in the world at any moment, a lonely man is doing unexplainable things to this poor doll version of me. (laughs)
You had a leading role in Scary Movie 5 which didn't exactly set the box office on fire, did that disappoint you? No, not at all! I didn't expect to go into a massive blockbuster movie, because that's not what this film was made to be. It's the fifth movie down in a franchise that was rebooted with faces people have never seen before in these films, so expectations weren't that high. But it was an amazing experience to be a part of and I had a blast shooting it, it was a lot of fun, I'd definitely like to do more acting.
Your next venture is Sweet Unknown, what was it like to be a part of that? It's been amazing to be a part of such an exciting project that Ryan's worked on for a while now. The moment I read the script I knew I had to be a part of it in some way, it really blew me away, and there's plenty of moments in there that just make you want to keep on watching. We're finishing up the whole season now, but I don't wanna give too much away, everyone can see for themselves!
There's plenty of fellow musicians starring in this alongside you, what was the atmosphere like on set? It was really easygoing and we just had a lot of fun with it, we're all hard workers and we get the job done and we know what we're there for, but we make sure to have a laugh with it too. People will probably assume the show won't be any good at all because they'll just think it's musicians trying to act, but we were all carefully chosen and we wouldn't have been asked to appear in this if we weren't capable. Most people will be shocked, because there's a whole lot of talent to be seen.
And finally, what's the sweetest unknown thing about you? Ooh, that was clever! I'd tell you, but it's extremely private. (smiles)
